VR support 'not at launch' for Odyssey

If there was a rule against necro threads, the devs would have set the forum to auto-close threads where no comments have been made in X number of days ...like reddit and such do.
I would be for that, after a period of six months or so. Updates can make old threads become irrelevant and I'm sure I'm not the only one that has started reading a necro from the first page only to realize a ways in that its old news. Or posted in the wrong thread <ahem>.

Believe it or not, I'm just being honest as I perceive things here (and elsewhere, oddly enough) - it would appear from reading around that the 'VR Community' in some games are exactly as I described - even prompting a statement from one studio describing the 'VR heads' on their forum as extremely toxic... Since this forum has shed a couple of the real reactionary VR users it has toned down a little, in comparison. But the word 'no' is still proving hard for some to digest.
It wasn't a no... It was rather a this is what you get at launch as we want to make the on foot VR experience as good as the in ship one. I haven't heard anything else from FDev (though I might have missed it). Personally in my life I've learnt that throwing tantrums or whining and begging doesn't bring me anything, rather it makes me look like an idiot.

FWIW, I have an Index and would dearly like for VR to be improved in Odyssey, but I don't see that spamming the forum all the time is very productive..

I'm not sure how you read it as anything else but 'no'. Sally was very clear that you have what they plan to do right now.

Understood! VR isn't going to be removed, so you'll be able to still play in VR for both Horizons and Odyssey, but only at the level of "development" currently available to you. Fixes and such to issues with what's currently available will of course be considered for fixing. Just wanted to clarify :)

Maybe when they do the next DLC in 3 years or so they'll think more about VR, if it's still a thing.

I'm not sure I'd interpret that as overriding what Arthur said, but yes I suppose that could be interpreted as a firm no, nothing will be done. On the other hand she might just have clarified the current situation as she was responding to someone being afraid that VR would be removed?

After all it would seem that getting performance up for everyone is a more important than implementing full on foot VR?

Some of the recent responses to this thread is distributing, reading many negative views towards the usage of VR.
I guess you mean VR users, like Rat Catcher and me?

Frontier decided to not support VR for the legs part of Elite and VR users asking Frontier to reconsider VR support.
Indeed.

But instead of supporting the VR community many are looking at the VR community as villains.
You made that up.

Asking for VR support is only asking for a game feature that will keep many more playing and engaged along with bring in more new VR users that will help keep this game alive and current.
It's been asked, they are well aware. Continually necroing threads as has been happening recently is the criticism.

There was a livestream later than Arthur's comments where it was also made clear that no new work was being done on VR legs, never say never, but it wasn't on the cards.

It could always change in the future of course.

Actually would you or someone else have a link to that stream, I'd really like to hear for myself what was said, instead of relying on hearsay?

This thread reminds me, I need to get over to Bethesda's forums and get my placeholder thread started so we can express our outrage and demands when Starfield is launched without VR support!!1

Bethesda will probably not launch Starfield with VR but will after a bit so they can get double dippers like all the other titles.

Never mind, I think I found the stream:

Of course one can interpret things as one sees fit, and the glass can be half full or half empty depending on one's point of view. I note that Bruce says the following:

"We do intend to make a bunch of changes based on various bugs and fixes that have come up, but that is as far as it's going to go for the time being. So, sorry to be the bearer of this news to those that are going to be disappointed by it, but there are no plans to develop the VR for Odyssey any further than its current state."

Personally I prefer to have a positive outlook so I see this as a half full glass "for the time being" and "there are no plans". Who knows maybe the people making a stink about it are right! On the other hand he was also just saying that one year ago there were no plans to develop VR any further, that really doesn't exclude it being implemented better once they get basic performance hammered out.

I think it's probably best that I just shut up and go back to waiting and hoping for better things in the future! :D

Edit: And I also note Zac adding "And obviously these things may change in the future, they may not.."

Anyone can go back and read comments on VR threads ( not just this one ) and find many negative comments directed at those that are postings support
for full VR support in Odyssey.

I make no reference or comment to anyone, everyone is free to read the posts and decide for themselves.
My villain comment comes from how I felt after reading some posts making me feel that way.

I would like to say that any added new feature or feature improvements to Elite will only make more compelling to play.

I fell this VR thread about Odyssey VR, should be a positive decision, talking about how VR can improve the gaming experience in Odyssey.
How VR is improving since Odyssey launch with affordable headsets like Quest, powerful GPU’s

How VR can bring a quality gaming experience to Odyssey, that is what Frontier said they want to bring to Odyssey VR in the first place.

Ah, this is my mistake sorry, I didn't notice which thread I was posting on so thought this was the roadmap blah-blah-blah one (not that it matters, peeing into the wind at best I know).
No worries. A year passes by altogether too quickly at times.
It is a bit like realising I've been playing this game for 5 years, it doesn't seem that long as there is still so much more I wish to do!

Yeah that was the one, I actually thought it was later than Jun15th but yeah that was it. Not being developed further is the current situation. Like anything, it could change.
