VR to remain same in odyssey (with bug fixes)

Its the first one, no active development on VR (which probably also means very limited bug fixes)

VR got the bare minimum support for the foreseeable future and we should be grateful for 2D projection in Odyssey aka VR users got the shaft
Well that really sucks... because if this is all we are getting for VR then it should be the best it could be.. I mean if I will have to use the 2d projection they better make it run smooth AF.. At this point they better have a mind blowing future roadmap because right now I feel like odyssey might be my last frontier purchase.

Can anyone clarify if future VR bugs will be fixed or not? Some people are saying that while there will be no future VR content made for Odyssey fdev will continue to support VR in terms of future bug fixes and VR specific performance optimizations. Somehow I did not get that from the livestream. It sounded to me that any and all VR support will be ditched, period.

it was our mistake, we gave them our money too soon, there are even those who paid him the alpha. money is the only thing they hear.
Why did people do that?
I didn't. And I wish other people didn't preorder too.

FD were upfront about no VR 'at launch' mere days after it was announced. DBOBE also even mentioned his lack of love for VR years before EDO was announced.

The way I see it, each preorder, with the above knowledge, was one more positive 'I agree to no VR' to those looking at the preorder numbers. :/

I am hopeful less people will pre order now, unless they are 100% sure and happy with what they will be getting.

they didn't said "no VR for Oddysey" they said VR will be only for Ships and SRV, virtual screen on foot. It's unplayable on ships, SRV and on foot.

This again. "If not for those pre-order people, EDO would have a VR agenda." That thinking devides the player base.

Only fdev is to blame. Not you for not pre-ordering, not me for pre-ordering.

Remember when Sony removed support for OtherOS on the PS3? People bought the jeseless thing to run their projects or just endlessly watch dmesg on boot in complete awe and then Sony said "You know what? Not anymore."

Elite was advertised with VR, Odyssey was advertised with VR, continuation is to be expected and now fdev goes full Sony. At no point did they say "hey, we don't have enough manpower to maintain this niche, so we're dropping support for it."

Edit: swearing got removed by a moderator. Sorry for that @MOD.

Well, for me it doesn't change that much - it's the final nail in the coffin but I haven't been playing ED for months anyway.

In other news, Infinity: Battlescape is better than ever. No it doesn't support VR - not in its present state. Some time after full release maybe, the devs have hinted that much. But it's an actually good game - a rarity in the space sim genre. Reminds me of ED PVP back in the day, before the dark times. Before engineers. Except better. Good enough that I find myself playing it even though I once swore I wouldn't play games like these without VR anymore. My copy of Star Wars: Squadrons is gathering digital dust.

I'm not always in mood for 2D space sims on a flat screen, but when I am, it's not going to be Elite Dangerous Odyssey.

I wouldnt mind being able to change the border around the 2D window to black at least as opposed to grey.

Hello.
So flat screen stays. I honestly believed, because devs said it and above all, because it is Elite Dangerous, they would make it full VR (without tracked motion controllers).

At least implement an external foot cam as first person view.

Can you imagine Pavlov without VR fighting face to face against CS, BF, CoD ...?
I think it could be a dangerous path.

The thing I want the most at this point, is either the possibility of switch-on/switch-off VR at the touch of a button (like Flight Simulator) or a properly stable VR mirror image on the monitor for OVR to latch on. The way things stand now, Elite is completely impossible to stream with a headset, unless you want to restart the game every single time you exit the ship. How can you totally disregard some of your most ardent supporters and for-free promoters of the game?
