Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Im on to mining, and just bought my anaconda (been using a viper for a while)

at the moment trying to work out, the best config for it...
this is what I have so far anaconda build for mining, thoughts?

still got about 200k credits, after most of the outfitting - but Id like to build that up a bit before the big spends... (hull/power plant)

perhaps, also should get some shield boosters for docking ;)
trying to decide if to keep SCA, and/or add ADC - I don't often use, but might be nice on a large ship.
Ive not used on other ships up till now... but, Anaconda feels like something, you'd be more 'cruising' in.
... if I want to throw a ship around, I'll use the Krait.. and might pick up another Sidey to learn FA off?

how well is the ADC working with an Anaconda?
Ive seen posts about it throwing it into a wall on launch! if I want that, I can do that myself!

also some mention, turning off ADC when its getting it wrong? how do you do that quickly?
(I stopped using the ADC after about 30mins in game... so not really aware of its pros/cons)

also multi mining controller, I use one, but starting to wonder if I should switch the other collection (and possibly prospector) for the multi instead...
its a bit heavier (10t vs 8t) , but more active limpits in same slot (4 vs 3) is useful.
(prospector is questionable... as 10t vs 5t, and less range... and I dont think I likely need 4 active prospectors.. though might be useful at times)

I've always found the ADC to work absolutely fine. Yes, you may need to keep an eye on it on large ships just in case. In fact, the only issue I've ever really had is auto-landing the Cutter on the FC - it takes ages and is far quicker to do manually.

For your mining 'Conda - it seems rigged to be able to fight too. Hence, if you want the full mining gamut, you're missing the sub-surface, core and absrasion blaster side of things.

Here's my Anaconda mining build.

And here it is again in action, just because I really like the picture. :)

Do you have only 200K credits left?
I ask because the rebuy insurance on that Anaconda is almost 14 million. If you don't have 14 million credits and you lose the ship in a neutron star or white dwarf jet cone accident or the ship is destroyed some other way, you will have only 200K credits and whatever other ships you have left to your name.

In my opinion that is actually a well balanced mining Anaconda build on a budget and with no engineering. You have the right number of mining lasers for the power distributor draw such that with 4 pips to weapons you should be able to deplete an asteroid without pausing firing for cool down and have some capacity to spare. Adding even a small mining laser would push that over the edge, so stick with what you have. If you do engineer grade 5 charge enhanced (best all rounder) or weapon focus (specialised for laser mining) your power distributor in future, you can run 5 medium mining lasers, or 4 medium and 2 small and deplete an asteroid without having to pause firing.
397MJ shields should be fine for bumps while mining or docking, but combat would be risky. That said, a 5C Bi-weave shield and one 0A shield booster gives you almost as much shield strength for a bit less money and provides an extra 32t cargo capacity.

Consider this - you can avoid fighting pirates in asteroid rings while mining. A laser mining Python can be built with 128t cargo with fuel scoop or 192t cargo without fuel scoop for about 108 million plus 5.4 million rebuy insurance. It might be safer to mine in this until you have 30 million in credits to cover two rebuys on the Anaconda.

I'm still slowly working my way toward Colonia, no set schedule. I've been stopping at each jump to check out the surroundings and enjoy the changing sky as I travel.

Today I found a lovely little planet with twin suns, and a sulphur dioxide atmosphere. I understand that sulphur dioxide is what gives that "burnt match" odor when you strike one. This picture on approach is pretty stunning, I think.

On the surface there was a lot of Stratum Techtonicas, which is nice for the exobiology rank since it's a high-value find. Not much for looks, though. The two suns in the sky kinda makes up for that. And it turns out that Sulphur Dioxide makes for a very nice blue sky.

oops, I meant 215 million , more zeros... so yeah, no issue with re-buy... as Im not going into combat...

yeah, I thinking of looking at the shields a bit, Ive just put 3x shield boosters on, I was thinking the 4A shield, but perhaps 5c bi-weave might be a bit better balanced.... just gotta keep the cargo up, and ensure mining is faster... (so Ive got some advantage over my old python)

generally, im planning on running from pirates... so allow interdictions, then boost/fsd away... im hoping that should work.
that said, in the python , they never managed to interdict me... much easier to avoid, than with the smaller ships I was using, I guess a mass thing?

yeah, thats what I had... just sold it, as it was a bit of overlap with the Krait mk2 (which I prefer cockpit of) , and the Ana.
(buy yeah, sorry, my mistake got 200 m , not 200k... I do like to have plenty of credits in reserve)

funny thing... just been test driving the Ana today so far... before taking her mining.

but, in the meantime, Ive just bought a Imperial Eagle....as I wanted to have something 'cheap' to throw around, and mess with flight assign off.
I was going to get a sidewinder, but realised Id not tried the Eagle... wow, what a fun bird she is!
(and even pretty much fully upgraded the re-buy is something like 100k... so no worries about crashes!)

Ive got the basics of flight assist worked out, really just need to get used to feeling the flight vector... so I can fly in a straight line rather than drifting around space :)

Decided my alt account needed an AX combat ship for when Quain goes exploring for most of October. A trip out to a Guardian site for weapon blueprint and the other junk later, I got Gauss cannons on a Phantom that was already engineered and now packed with engineered hull reinforcements from an abandoned Anaconda hull tank experiment.
I think the Phantom is massively underated in this role. Aiming stability of the Gauss cannons is better than the Chieftain and when you ask it to go quick this thing is fast as heck and can dodged the swarm in a down or diagonal down direction with a boost while simultaneously keeping a bead in the Thargoid heart. It's just that bit easier to hit a Scout with the Gauss cannons too.
Overall the higher hull strength and more flexible hardpoint options of the Chieftain makes it the superior choice in this role, vthe the Phantom is a fun variation. The Phantom is just loaded with 4 medium Gauss cannons for max firepower, so no thermal vent beam to help with stealth.

You should be able to evade interdictions in the Annie, it will just be harder. It's not a fast ship, so don't rely on boosting the escape pirates in the rocks. Just make sure they have left before you start loading and you should be OK.
