Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Ah yes, I've got the t-shirt, baseball cap and a bunch of other souvenirs as well from that disappearing SRV cuz it's back on the ship thing. I think it's generally known amongst commanders as the "Black Death." It often seems to happen when the ship is a long way away, but fortunately it's possible to dismiss and recall the ship from on-foot by pressing "Q" and using the item wheel.

I was hoping FDev would fix it last time but oh no, it was mostly Thargoid this and Thargoid that...
Oh, the black death. It's a bit disconcerting when you return to the world you're on only to find youself sans SRV and sans ship. Next thing, we'll be sans carrier and that will really give me whiffy trousers.

And Madeline keeps telling me to watch my speed out there. Pfft. One of these days, my crew will recognise me.

My travels brought me back to the Seagul nebula again. I've posted pictures of it before, but here are a few different ones. Welcome to Hell...

Aye, my crew don't recognise me either - all they see is some bloke in a daft Artemis suit, dashing backwards and forwards from the ship to Vista etc.

I was hoping that when I arrive back at the carrier Blaine in my ATC would say "Hail to the Chief" or something but no, I'm just some random commander who may or may not want to dock there. :sneaky:

They're all business, as usual.

I think the best is when you arrive at a new to you station and the STC greets you with a hearty "Welcome back, commander."

I'm having an odd computer issue, maybe one of you knows what I might check.

My computer is set to never sleep, and never turn off the monitor. I turn off the monitor manually, and have done so for years. I don't like the automatic sleep thing.

But the last few days when I return to my machine in the morning, the screen is just black, and it says "no signal" now and then. The computer is on, but nothing I do makes the display come on. I have to reboot the machine, then all is normal.

I've tried reinstalling the graphics driver, to no avail.

Any ideas?

Anything in the Windows event log? If you look at the System events it might indicate what it's doing overnight (e.g. Sleep is now kicking in after some automated patch, or a nasty error like CPU overheating).

Do you "sleep" the computer overnight?

Windows updates? Check BIOS settings too.

I set my computer (Windows 10) the same as yours: never sleep and never turn the monitor off. Its been like that for over 2 years.

A few months ago, some Windows Update went and changed my settings. How #^@%$ helpful of it!

I had to change them back and the problem went away. This may work for you. You may also need to check the "Control Panel" "Power Options" "Change advanced power settings" for more settings too...
