Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Hmmm... I don't have a Type 10 in my fleet atm, but just looked it up and saw you can get a pretty good cargo capacity, so next time in a station with one of those available maybe I'll buy one. I'm currently about 17,000 LY from Sol though and nowhere near any stations. Still, the Python's not bad so I'll carry on with that in the meantime.

This T10 was an armed&armoured transport originally, a hull-reinforcement heavy “defender” with many multicannons… we’d pair transport missions with pirate massacres and i’d fly it to attract pirates to fill our stacked wing mission quota’s …later converted to that near-absurd beast with mining lasers in just about every hardpoint slot - even with the engineered power plant & distributor, it had trouble sustaining all those beams, though it was fun to see a large-ish asteroid medium roast in a 10-second burst - so its mining lasers have since been reduced to a more modest / sustainable four, with space for subsurface / core mining equipment …recently in SD i added an L7 monster of a multi-limpet controller, so i’m interested to see how long it takes them to fill up a 256T cargo rack now sometime soonish :]

...but for now i am hopping about, exploring and scanning things - so here an Osseus seems to have sprouted a Krait:

Oooh, I definitely like to have one of those L7 collectors - the more limpets out there doing the business the better. :p

Right now I can only have three collector limpets on the go at once and I wish I'd known all this before I left the bubble, but whatever! That said, maybe I could also fit more than one controller to get more active limpets.

Your post contains just about every question normally asked about mining, and the solutions, which you figured out yourself. Impressive. :)
💯

To clarify, the Pulse Wave Analyzer is for Core and sub-surface mining. It will light up rocks that have either cores, surface deposits, or sub-surface deposits. It doesn't have anything to do with laser mining, and it does not specify what sort of ore (ie the hotspot type is not considered). It was introduced with Core mining, and is intended to show asteroids that might have the new features.

So, if you're laser mining the PWA has no use.
@bugbait42 - My laser miner T9 is also set up for surface & sub-surface deposits. They require, respectively, the Abrasion Blaster and the Sub-surface Displacement Missile launcher.

The Seismic Charge Launcher is only used for Core mining.

Here is my current T9 Laser/Surface/Sub-surface miner build in case you're interested...for comparison...

Thanks! I've saved that loadout of yours, but not sure I want to use a T9 for any kind of mining as I wanted a much more nimble ship which is why I use a Python. Just going backwards and forwards to the station in the T9 where I buy the Tritium is bad enough. :p

I just remembered I already have two collectors but at the moment only one fitted as I needed to remove to fit a fuel scoop. When I get back to the carrier though I'll fiddle about with the outfitting to see if I can fit two, but might need to remove a cargo rack which would be a pity.

EDIT: Silly me - I'll remove the fuel scoop - as long as I have enough fuel to get from the carrier to the Tritium site and back I won't need a fuel scoop!
EDIT 2: Not sure I want to use a Type 10 either re @]M[ come to think of it for the same reason as the Type 9....

You could always engineer your thrusters for a "more nimble" experience...

In my T9 I routinely use my thrusters to attempt to match speed and rotation of an asteroid when "shooting" surface and sub-surface deposits. Usually I can keep up but sometimes I can't (the asteroid is spinning too fast) and have to use a different strategy to release, and then collect, those deposits.

Hmmm ... thanks I hadn't thought of that one. Felicity can do that I think!

??? are you sure...

Hmmm, maybe its time I started unlocking more of the engineers who've invited me...
You are definitely right. My brain signed off for a little break, there...😅

My brain seems to be on a roll making things up as it goes, I fear...
This sentence right above has been edited at least three times to get it right...
