Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Well, the long-range rifle is certainly an interesting beast in a CZ but it takes a little getting used to. In the medium I just experimented with, it was able to two-shot (alas, no one shots :( ) every enemy but hitting a moving target wasn't easy.

I kept yelling at them to stand still but the blighters just weren't wearing it.

I'll try a high I think.

It's not like the railgun in Quake III?

It's definitely not a railgun or shock rifle - the Executioner shot is a plasma projectile, relatively slow moving, though fairly deadly... it has rail/shock level damage, but is not an instant "hitscan" weapon at all - it takes a while to travel... so yep, I find myself muttering "stand still!" in CZ's / AX Powerups quite a bit too ;)

I'd recommend using a suit with Combat Movement Speed, which makes ADS (Aim Down Sights) movement nicely smooth & fluid when using an Exie - also, if possible, include the Faster Handling mod, as it is a fairly heavy weapon and otherwise a bit sluggish to move with and draw/store (if not available, store it when hopping about and fit Faster Reload instead).

As something less than a maggot as far as ground combat is concerned I wouldn’t have thought the blighters in a high CZ would be any more likely to listen and stop, at least not until you master leading the target at which point they will stop moving when you squeeze the trigger.

For something different in between CZ's, I'm going to try something a little unorthadox.

I'm going to build a ship that deliberately has a very short jump range but with a good fuel scoop. The thinking is that I want to visit a load of systems I haven't yet been to within the bubble just to get their layouts so I can check what the system looks like before doing other stuff like CZ's, on-foot missions etc.

By plotting a long route, and selecting only non-visited stars, I should cover a nice amount of gound.

At the moment. it'll either be a hauler or adder. Probably not optimal for my requirements but I don't have any other use for them :D
The Adder might be better, it is much easier to get it to have a short jump range than a Hauler.

Just noticed in your signature that you seem to have misspelled Greebo as Bloody Furious a much less dangerous option.

So this time I watched the updater do the thing using Windows Resource Monitor.
I'll tell ya why it's slow - it attempts to read in the content of every file it is intending to update all at once - not eight at a time or sixteen at a time or any other thread-friendly number at a time.

Ooooh... "sync files"... 1m to go... small patch then.

EDIT - and "preparing planetary gen system" looks like I'll need to redo my colours. Again.

edit 2 - yep

EDIT 3 - oh, EDHM needs patching again too
This is the big advantage of Steam. You don't ever have to do that. It all stays put. Steam only replaces the new files while the FDev Launcher wipes out everything in favor of the new files even if they don't change.

So "Goodie Whemper" is engineered now. Needed a good scoop but she was also running hot when scooping. So... low emissions and cool running was name of the game. Got the PP to G3 and suddenly heard the "Oh my god, I'm breathing from an air tank" sound.

Ruh roh.

So, I had to monster the module and disable the cargo hatch just to get oxygen.

Still, scooping is now not so seat-of-the-pants-are-on-fire-and-oh-crap-my-dashbaord-is-spitting-smoke. Mind you, from Khun to Sirius is 15 jumps now :D But then again, that's the idea behind the build.

I just discovered that landing at a base with four minutes of oxygen left is very difficult when the crack in your canopy happens to be where the ILS/horizon headsup would normally be projected...

... I did not succeed. I dropped too low by accident (because no altimeter) and didn't get glide. Ran out of oxygen just as I'd got back into FSD.

Oh well, at least the hold was only full of scrap...

Yep, best to do an emergency repair at an orbital port before attempting a planetary landing if the canopy’s gone - one can still find one’s way to the station with the target display, but getting into glide to do a surface landing is more complicated.

I agree with this, the order of places to head for when the canopy has gone is

Stations - because the air comes on as soon as you get through the slot.
Outposts - because you need to be on the pad and I think entering the hanger to get the air.
Planetary - because all of what @]M[ said is true plus they take longer to reach usually and like outposts you need to be on the pad.

It is possible to synthesise life support but it isn’t something I would think of while listening to myself suffocating.

Unless there is another one waiting for me that came out yesterday.

Edit: there wasn't.

All this Thargoid talk has me wanting to get back to civilization and repurpose my Krait Mk II for a cool running material hunter.
I was reading over in News that Glaives were doing Inter/Hyperdictions nd can keep up with ships boosting to 570 which would be an issue for most ships.
