While Quain does exobiology, my new trading alt account is leaving for a Monazite mining run.

Been meaning to try a sidewinder for exo for some time - as i'm taking a break from maelstroms (and revenants) to go off exploring, this seems like a good time to do just that... :]

yes, this sidewinder also has autodock & 'cruise assist :D
That's really all you need off a carrier. It's rare that I jump more than 20 LY.

The only exception to that is when I've been in the same spot for a while. Then I'll just open the galaxy map and zoom off about 1000 light years, head straight out there then slowly work my way back. Getting out there in 12 or 13 jumps is nice. I'd hate to have to manage that with a 20 LY jump range.

I am using the slightly longer Hauler in this role it will obviously not fit in quite as small a space but will if needed jump better than a Sidewinder.

The thing that has nearly brought me the most grief about it is fuel consumption, not while jumping but while bumbling around in a system and chasing bios on the planet’s surface. I have had COVAS warnings about fuel remaining at times. When I eventually get to Colonia I will have to look at refitting it with less energy hungry modules and (for the first time in 6 or 7 years) fit an extra fuel tank.

I ran out of fuel just now, for the first time since 3303 3304 iirc - the teeny fuel tank caught me by surprise... ran out while i was hopping the carrier in to rescue me even - so that autodock will be replaced with a 1A fuel scoop next time i'm home^

Might be one of those newish drones that act like a self propelled mine.

Yep it's a mine - looks a bit like a droid from late 70's 2000AD ...like from Sam Slade, Robohunter mebbe? :]

They have Sidewinder luxury size landing pads here... ^^

It's always that way. They'll get the majority of the panels fixed and then go back and fine tune it to get everything fixed. It's been that way the last three updates in a row.
It's probably because they have to figure out the new hash IDs for every shader -- the IDs often change from update to update. I only have 4 or 5 I modify myself, and that's enough of a pain. They must have dozens (or more, I'm not sure).

I have a Sidewinder on the carrier with me out here -- it's not setup particularly for Exobiology, but I could certainly use it that way. Maybe I'll drag it out and futz around. If I dump the weapons and utilities off it, it can do 30LY or so.

 
Finally found that last canister of ionised gas I needed. Thankfully, I already had enough materials on me for all the modifications I needed for this little puppy without having to grind scavenge for them:

Next mission is see how this performs in a CZ but I may need to create a new loadout. Let the experimentation begin.

Ah nice - i presume the headshot damage will mean you only need one shot for most things now…? ;]
