Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I just bailed-out of an exploration trip some 8kylies out because I got so fed up fiddling the landing of an ASPX - I'm going to go back out in my DBx in a few days.

The last time I took a 'conda on an exploration trip was DW2 and I'd never consider doing so ever again.
I couldn't live without it's long legs, when I'm heading for a DSSA carrier most of the systems around it have been scoured, so I go max jump range there and back to my departer point. I can carry lots of fuel (128 tons) so I can transect those huge Brown Dwarf areas (color me crazy), I leave no stone unturned when I explore.

Here's a parking job I just pulled off moments ago, took about 6 minutes. I fly really low and pick a line where I won't hit any terrain, set the throttle to 10M/s and start hunting with my external camara. Fungus is incredibly difficult to spot with this terrain color, I did manage with tussock nearby.

Where you disembark the SRV and all you get is black screen and some mechanical clunking. You have to exit to the main menu and restart - hey presto, on foot but then you get the dearth of data, goods and assets
That black screen is standard for me. Goes away after a few seconds. (10-20-ish)
I knew I should have grabbed that shovel from the cab before I got out.
Whoops. Hit the handbrake while your foot was still solid on the accelerator?

I've only read the premise of this and... well, like you, cynicism prevails. It sounds a bit like the original Predator - a bunch of humans being picked off by an alien lifeform.

The Alien series really needs a decent sequel. Perhaps Cameron ought to get involved.

"I only need to know one ting. Where. They. Are"
;)

I'm not a fan of the whole teen slasher approach but I do like the retro look so I'll watch it like the sucker I am. Like an old lady responding to spam email which empties her bank account.

Aaw, you have an MK IV? Swapsies. ;_;

Heh, currently, I have two! I would gladly swap one, if I could.

Honestly, I'd be down with FDev making the Cobra MKIV available to all, even if it was an ARX purchase to unlock it - it's a great ship, a little less maneuverable than the MK III, with all 5 hardpoints on the topside, so not an ideal combat ship, but Class 4 FSD and Power Plant internals, and 4x Class 4 Optional internals make for a versatile 'mini-Python'.

I'm cool with exclusive stuff like custom decals, tweaked ship kits, niche/engineered modules, Unique Paintjobs etc as CG rewards, but I'm not big on 'you gotta buy X version of the game' exclusive content, which is what the MKIV is atm.

This is interesting...

I saw the CG had dropped, but I don't think I'll be participating in this one.

Not sure I'll like it if only the new ships can fit the new drives (especially if they are just straight up better all 'round than FSD's), but eh, what will be will be

Thinking of a visit to Ethgreze sometime very soon... wonder if I need special stuffs to survive...

The Ethgreze System? Nah. Unless you go in open 🤪

I read the CG blurb earlier though - you'll need caustic sinks, corrosion resistant cargo holds and to avoid remaining Thargoids to collect the necessary CG loot.

Unlrelated note:

Just had something weird happen - scanned a planet Signals: 8 Human, 1 Other.

Never seen 'other' before. Couldn't see it from orbit hough. on the surface I could see and target it through the Nav panel, soon as I lifted off, it dropped off the HUD and Nav panel.

Any idea's:

A: What Signal: Other is?

B: If that's bugged behaviour, or if I have to land and find it by SRV/Footslogging?

Hmm. I've not got involved in any of the Thargoid things so I don't have any anti-goid stuff. I'll probably just go to have a nose around.

"Other" - thoughts: NSP? Guardian?

You can pick them up without jumping through the usual hoops at the Emergency Mega-ships parked near the Titans these days. So I'm told.

NSP?

It's in the bubble, in an inhabitted system (Sirius, in fact), on Marco Qwents planet.

Aha! Thanks!

Yeah, part of the 'Make Operation Titan Assault available to all!' innitiative

Hmm. I'm stumped on the "other" thing though - I just have a nagging memory of seeing it myself once.
Yeah, there's not much I can find online either - they've turned up in a few places, but no solid answers on what they are, or follow up posts from finders.

Several reports like mine though, where they disappear before they can be explored.

Well, I just programmed in a jump for my carrier to Ethgreze when a light bulb went on and found that the Titan was actually in Hyades Sector FB-N B7-6. D'oh moment. It wouldn't have been so bad but jump times are at 40 minutes at the moment. Gah.

I need to swap ships before visiting as this one is made from tissue paper and has no room for cargo, caustic or otherwise. Le sigh. May do the visit on the morrow.
