I've heard of it, and seen pirates do it in the Rez sites...but I'd never put much stock into it. What am I speaking about? Why collector limpets! All this time I have been:
- Shoot Ship
- Shoot Ship some more until it blows up
- Check Contact screen to find materials
- Play chicken with materials
- Scoop up materials, try again, and again...and...Damn, it disappeared.
I had an open class 1 slot on my FDL, so I got a collector controller, moved out one of my class 4 SCB's and put in an cargo rack. (Yes, I did get limpets...learned that lesson once already) Then went back out to my local High Res and started following the Sec Boys around and getting in a few shots at some poor bastage before he was carbonized.
Checked the Contact Screen...Yup, materials! Launched a limpet, opened the cargo hatch, and let the little white dot go pick up my stuff. So much easier than trying to peck them up like a big chicken picking up pieces of grain.
NOTE!!! If there are canisters floating around, put them on your "Do Not Touch" list. Unless you actually lock onto them, it doesn't say that they may be illegal goods (and probably 100% of them are if they were on board a pirate ship). I was getting ready to head back to Ohm City and looked at my cargo and saw that there was Cargo there. Funny, I didn't have any except for limpets when I left. My happy little limpet decided that I needed Everything and picked up some contraband items. At least I didn't get scanned by the Sec Boys or try to dock like normal...Getting blown up isn't my idea of fun.
So to those who haven't done this, it is a great way to load up your mats when you are in a Rez site. Just make sure you do get some shots in on the bad guy, otherwise you won't be able to collect the mats from his ship when it blows up. After it blows up, fly close to the mats, open the cargo hold, launch a limpet and relax while it does the work.
