Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I need a new canopy. I don't why this can't be cleaned up through advanced maintenance->ship integrity or paintwork... Rolls Royce Wraith oweners wouldn;t put up with a grainy windscreen Looks like the crew at the "hand wash" garage got grit in their chamois :D

You can use the Dustbuster mod to get rid of windscreen smears, among other things.

Great job, LIB. A man after my own heart. It does get a bit lonely out there though.

For some reason I thought you had a carrier.

Yeah, the Stellar Unknown expedition kept me out there for 4 months (the longest I've spent out of the Bubble) and it did get a little lonely so since then I've kind of stayed near civilization. I think I could afford a fleet carrier if I sold off most of my fleet... but then I wouldn't need a fleet carrier. I've been playing over 2 years but I just do what feels fun and tried to avoid grinding otherwise I guess I would have had the funds. But maintaining one sounds like a grind so I haven't worried about it much. I don't enjoy mining.

Yeah, I'm not so keen on the maintenance thing; if it had all been just a matter of one-off purchases, I'd have a carrier by now.

And the cost you incur when offline isn't an idea that sits well with me.

Yeah, I hate that too. The AspX is terrible, it looks like a shop that has just closed down in the wrong light. Which is a shame, as I love flying it.

The various shader mods around that get rid of the scratches also darken the display, I 've found. Not immediately obvious, but when you go and land somewhere dark, you'll see that the headlights are very subdued, and HUD elements look rather dull. After a while, you start to realise that everything has become slightly dulled wherever you are, and it's not something that is remedied by increasing gamma.

The scratches weren't as badly visible at one time; the lighting "upgrade" in 3.3 made them stand out more. The worst thing is that you can really see the repeating pattern of the scratch texture when it is so obvious.

Fun with Lances. Imperial Cutter 2 Lances and 9 Collectors.
Slow drift mining, prospecting, one about five roids is semi good for LTD's
I love Cutter mining, but it leaves me asking a very rookie question, sorry. Are mining 'lances' just mining lasers by another name? I have twin 2D mining lasers on my Cutter, do surface mining, are they what you are using there? Don't think the beams from mine are yellow, though, although they seem to be performing the same job?

Thank you.

Upgrade to an Asp-S!! Love mine for exploring, but have never noticed scratches. And it's just the sort of thing which usually makes me disappointingly huffy.

These are the long range (2km) Zemina Torval ones, I find it better to stand off the roid about 700m and shoot. the collectors still make a good fragment recovery loop cycle.
They seem to be producung fragments quite fast. I am not doing any subsurface busting. The pulse wave seems usless now. I am just prospecting random roids as I slow drift through. Also, only playing with two prospector limpets on the go at one time...

How on Earth have I missed that?!? Appalling. Thank you so much for clearing that up. I'm a double prospector kind of commander, myself, and the slow drift approach is absolutely my style. Will have to get myself an upgrade. As it is I am constantly waiting to bring my lasers within range. Weird blind spot. Thank you, Commander (both for posting the video and then filling in my rookie blank!).

The mining Lance thing is great for an exploring vessel, since it allows for ring mining, and also works like a weapon in case you find some odd installation or megaship with something to activate by shooting. I always have one on my exploring vessels.

For actual mining, it lets you mine from a distance, so you can start the next asteroid while still picking up from the previous. But using mining lasers from a very close distance so you can pick up fragments very fast is still more efficient.

I've only noticed that around a star so I don't mind. It kind've adds a bit of realism.

What ship are you in there? It has a nice interior.

You get mass locked by any ship with a higher mass lock factor. Equal or lower MLFs have no effect on entry to supercruise.

High waking (jumping to another system) is not affected by mass lock at all.

Oh thanks. Basically every ship can mass lock my Cobra then.

No, I don't enjoy mining either. I tried it once and grew instantly bored before retiring the laser. No offence to anyone who likes it. It's just not my thing.

Four months is a long time though. I lasted about eight days before I missed the general human interaction you might have. I'd rather have my ship be viciously and randomly attacked by another player than only have NPC's around me.

It's an Imperial Cutter. Yes, the interior does look quite plush but I think it needs some Recaro seats, a Burmester sound system and a large brass globe containing bottles of plonk.

Or a fridge for ice cold lager - especially in this weather.

That gave me a full nostalgia blast thinking about those old wooden globe alcohol containers a few of my relatives had back in the olden times.

That is a nice ship though. Like I say, I might try out something new to play with but I'm happy with what I have right now. Plus I built up a little Sidewinder before the patch killed it so I have a little PTSD when it comes to buying new ships. It totally destroyed my moral.

On the other hand, I don't even like NPCs around me! :)

Hardcore. I might be a social introvert but I at least like to see a few NPC's when I jump into a system. Except when I'm making that long journey to a binary star and have people after me. I like to be able to make a cup of tea without hearing that interdiction alarm.
