Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

By the way, they need to fix that binary star thing. I don't wanna travel 20 minutes to dock at a station.
Then don't accept any of those well paying missions to Alpha Centauri.

P.S.: If you're flying missions (if not: why are flying out to those stations instead of jumping to the next system?), the distance to the destination station is given in the mission description before you accept the mission. The only time this doesn't work out is for missions (retireval, kill) that require you to obtain the mission details in the target system (contact, nav beacon, base scan).

I cleared the save and I'm working on some FA OFF training (Thank you Moxen Wolf on youtube)

WOW!!!... It was August 2018 when I cleared the save and moved over to flying 100% FA OFF with a PS4 controller (on the PC)... And I'm currently Elite in Trading, Elite in Exploration, Competent in Combat and 0 games of CQC... with 0 spent of fuel and 0 rebuys and fingers crossed that I make it to triple elite without a death. I'd also like to say 0 bounties, but unfortunately I tagged a friendly moments before they blew up in a CZ which netted me a 200 CR 'Murder' Bounty for no reason, but I'm not prepared to reset the save for that.

A great thread that has just reminded me of how long ago I cleared the save and made the switch to FA OFF. There have been long periods where I haven't played though, but Drew Wagar's Lore Tour has gotten me back into ED again... or at least it has for the time being.

For Tyres O'Flaherty... Does "Pilot" still put the same image into your head as it did in 2018?

It's an Imperial Cutter. Yes, the interior does look quite plush but I think it needs some Recaro seats, a Burmester sound system and a large brass globe containing bottles of plonk.

Or a fridge for ice cold lager - especially in this weather.
Let's be honest, it's a lovely ship, but would really benefit from a matt black dashboard.
Can't see a blasted thing! :ROFLMAO:

Welcome back (can I say that as a newb?) and well done. Great avatar, by the way. I just finished marathoning the last four series of Red Dwarf and loved it. I mean it was hit and miss but Kryten will make most episodes non-crap with his very presence.

I spend the past hour trying to buy gold, but it turned out to be on carriers in small or non-existent amounts. Very frustrating that you can't see the actual amount on the galaxy map.

Just turn off the lights, like this:

I did 9 jumps up to Leesti to see just how big the star was. My original intention was to make one more to Lave, but seeing that the station there was called the George Lucas I felt I should pitch in for the night there. It also has a few starred goods- these must be the things you have to haul for lightyears that get you a big pay day I've heard about. Also sold my map information- I didn't realise scanning even a known earthlike planet in Leesti will eventually net me quite a lot of credits. I think I've been in such a hurry to head north the few times I've scanned metallic worlds really show.
Still, I'm now just shy of 2 million. Tomorrow I'm thinking making the 13 jumps to Chukchan as it's a pleasingly odd looking outshoot of the bubble. I think I'll then try and lighten my cobra as much as possible to eke out as much jump range and try my hand at exploring the vicinity.

Indeed, always at least "honk" the system with the discovery scanner if you've not been there before.

You can also open the system map and see what bodies exist there. With practice, you can visually identify (most of the time) which planets are worth a more detailed scan. Earth likes, water worlds, ammonia and high metal/metal rich are all worth it.

Of course, it is profitable to explore the whole system and, when you start getting (alot) further out, you'll find planets and stars thus far "un-tagged" and, once you hand the data in, your commander name will be forever etched as the first discoverer!

Good luck!

Also a couple of times it's told me I'm first to discover a planet upon handing in data, but that's clearly absurd- I haven't ventured beyond the bubble, and checking the system map shows me someone else clearly discovered and mapped it first each time. I think it's meant to be "beat the surface scanner probe target"?

If you are the first discoverer, you'll be notified on a subscreen when you hand the data in.

You're probably just being told you have discovered planet soandso which means it's the first time you've found it.

If you map a planet - the "dart firing" at the body with the surface scanner - within the minimum amount of probes required, it will give you an "efficiency bonus" message.

You get this message when you have mapped a body which, although already mapped by someone, has no "first discovered by" tag - i.e. it was in the default set of "known" systems prior to the FSS introduction.

It is a silly bug - like lots of other silly bugs that they have not got around to squishing.

On the subject of bugs..

Has anyone else noticed that after throttling down to FSS the system, that sometimes on exiting the FSS the throttle won't respond? It just gets stuck at the minimum 30kmh/s, and no matter what I do, it won't increase. Dropping out of SC, the throttle is restored to functionality though.

It's a pain, because it means that one has to do the FSSing, then drop out of SC, wait for the FSD cooldown, and then go back into SC if one wishes to travel anywhere. The fact that it is sporadic is irritating too.

That sounds indeed very annoying. No, I haven't noticed that.
First thing first - I'd check if you don't have a "Set throttle to 0" bound to the same button as FSS.
If not, bug report.

I am seeing two odd things too.

When exiting a station or a ring and pointing at your destination jump, the FSD will be charged but not jumping while you are being told to align with the location. It can sometimes be about 10 seconds before you finally jump.

Secondly, exiting the jump at the destination star results in control lockup. You can't steer, open maps etc. and, again, just have to wait it out.

....

Never seen that - second @Chris Simon's suggestion.

First thing sounds like you are "slipping" - i.e. your ship's motion is not along your axis - are you in a large ship and / or boosting?

Second thing sounds weird - never had that either.

I am seeing two odd things too.

  1. When exiting a station or a ring and pointing at your destination jump, the FSD will be charged but not jumping while you are being told to align with the location. It can sometimes be about 10 seconds before you finally jump.
  2. Secondly, exiting the jump at the destination star results in control lockup. You can't steer, open maps etc. and, again, just have to wait it out.
1. Is fairly common and is due to drift or slippage. Your ship is pointing in the right direction but it isn’t actually travelling in exactly the same direction, this can be due to the ship being especially prone to drifting such as the smaller Federal ships and the Cutter or if you have just pulled a very sharp turn using boost.

When I am in ships prone to this annoying behaviour I tend to hit boost when I am pointing at the marker to straighten things out.

2. Sounds like a really bad stutter by the game but if you are still moving helplessly toward the star it won’t be that, I would be composing my ticket to support about it and trying to decide whether to send it before or after I crash into a star.
