Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Did the hostile turn red on the radar? There's a bug in the latest Odyssey where enemies may not turn red until you shoot at them yourself, and thus the fighter pilot won't attack unless you explicitly tell them to attack the target. If told to defend, which is the default command mode for them, they just sit and watch you get blasted to bits.
Other effects of the bug are that turrets set to Fire at Will won’t because they only shoot at hostiles and the target next/previous hostile and target highest threat buttons are also ineffective.

If I remember correctly one of the reasons NPCs are so maneouvrable is because with their superior reaction times and situational awareness they always have 4 pips in whichever system that needs it.

They cheat then?

...

Sound like they have 4 pips in all systems at all times...?

But why? This must be a nightmare for fresh commanders. ...

Actually MoM (*) specifically installed random / weighted (scaled by NPC rank) delays and inaccuracies to NPC behaviour. I have not seen her post on the forum for a long time but she was quite emphatic that the NPCs should a) have the same rules and limitations as commanders and b) not be perfect / 100% efficient.

Finally received my iCourier in Colonia!

Took her out to a low intensity CZ to fight for my adopted faction. What a difference vs the python... The rate of turn is so much better that it's almost hard to keep her in a straight line with mouse control. Yes, I took some hits, no my shield never went down. Biweave engineered to 46% thermal resist, 38% kinetic resist and 57% explosive resist with a total strength of 496, nothing could keep me in its sights long enough to do real damage. Unlike my python which would get trained and smashed. Having double the shields and hull didn't help when it got hit 10x more.

End result, first time I've come out of a CZ at a net profit; only a million, and didn't get 8/8 kills, but easy enough to go again, and no repair bills.

Biggest problem with this iCourier; I loaded double multicannons and a beam laser, and ran out of ammo. But I could sustain indefinite fire on that one laser with just 2.5 pips in weapons, so having beaten that CZ with only the beam laser left, I'm giving up the incendiary MC and having an engineered burst laser brought over to me (9 mins shipping, so chance for a cuppa). Going to mount only the corrosive MC and use it in small bursts when I feel confident of the shot and let the lasers do most of the work. Might get some interesting target malfunctions too 😹

...quite tempted to go get a vulture now I've see what a light fighter can do!

Today, I have mostly been ferrying platinum (and painite, osmium and serendibite) from the carrier to an outpost offering a good price. In a Python due to pad size. Multiple journies required. Then I had to refuel the carrier so I had to ferry tritium from a station back to the FC. In a T9 which, as we know, is like manoeuvring a house brick through drying tar.

Ah, the seat-of-the-pants life of a bubble pliot.

Now I need some excitment. Perhaps I'll try an on-foot combat mission to see how quickly it takes me to die.

Oh, I did chrome up my Chieftain (Wednesday) just for the crack. It looks a bit plain in a still picture, but once you pan the camera around, the reflective effect is most pleasing.

Second CZ sit rep: it's all gone a bit pear shaped.

For whatever reason, some guy in a viper plus his friend simply wouldn't stop prioritising me every time I got near the main pack. Turns out even the iCourier can be hit if the attacker is similarly fast. Getting real sick of that "pwump" sound.

Emergency reboot got me back online with thrusters at 2%... sadly abandoned the CZ despite being well in the lead. Clearly those guys had it in for me and any shot was going to send me into a flat spin again. Ran away to a nearby horticultural habitat for repairs and rearming.
