Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I've been to Grand Canyon but I don't think I saw any Tubuses there.

Quite a lot of this game is based on the rules of capitalism, after all...
Not really. FDev controls it all in a very arbitrary way. Example: about three months ago I posted about how they are slowly but surely nerfing all mining payoffs.

Back when I first started, you could make good money core mining. Void Opals, Low Temperature Diamonds were worth 600,000 plus. Those are now essentially worthless as they're around 1/4th that now.

Then they hit the hard minerals. Just a month ago, Monazite was worth 800,000. It's now half that.

The only mining material that hasn't been nerfed into absolute oblivion is Platinum and even it is down around 30%.

So it's not as much capitalism as it is FDev saying, "well, too many people are doing THIS so let's make it not worth their while" and "not enough people are doing this, so lets make it worth their while". That's why they're increasing the payoffs on biologics - nobody is really doing it.

Well, that is one of the downsides of capitalism. If there is a shortage of a certain product, you can make a lot of money, as the consumers will pay almost any price you ask. But as soon as others get wind of it and jump the bandwagon, producing as much as they possibly can to earn a lot of money, you will no longer be able to ask those hogh prices, as there quickly develops a surplus, making the amount people want to pay for it plummet.

Again, this game doesn't work that way. At all.

Here's a bit more speculation from marx (writer of Observatory core).

Yeah, based on what we can tell from the journals, price being queried when you'd sell the samples seems more likely. It would also better explain the bug where VG on carriers doesn't take the 25% cut it's meant to. Still, it would be good to know for sure, and I asked the active CM here, her reply was that she'll get back with an answer later. I vaguely recall something about the buff coming before U14 goes live though: if that'll be so, chances are good that the prices will be adjusted at the weekly server restart on Thursday, and that'd be another point in favour of the sale price getting determined at the time of selling.

I find it interesting that neither of these guys knows :)

Just going to drop this here:

Great screenshot that. Did you remember to map it as well? :p(y)

As for me, even though I'm still almost 9,000 LY from Sol almost every system I arrive at on my way back to the bubble has been explored already, although I have managed to find some that were only partly explored. I guess the reason for this is because I've been pretty much following that Colonia Bridge route after I left that megaship. I guess I could have deviated say, 500 LY west of here and gone from there but I want to get back to the bubble asap so I can do some other stuff, such as on-foot CZs and there's still 174 jumps to Deciat...

However, maybe even more surprising than Argentina 1, Saudi Arabia 2 is that the system I'm in right now, with only the star already discovered has an Earthlike world and four other terraformable bodies. 😊

Today I took a mission to kill 16 criminals, base unspecified. I determined that they only had 1 base to their name, so I went there hoping it would be powered-up and occupied.

This is me, descending upon the unsuspecting riff-raff who were indeed busily working away at whatever nefarious schemes they were involved in. Funny how they looked exactly like legitimate citizens. There were 19 of them in the settlement, as it turned out.

I left them lying in the dust and filth of the base. And I took their power regulator and a few other goodies, too. No alarms, no problems, no bounties.

Still, it felt a lot like murder rather than justice.

Anyway, I got paid.

Just back in the bubble now after a fortnight roaming about doing exobiology. Which I found tedious and boring and... oddly relaxing. I can now understand why people collect stamps, I suppose. Was about to unload my exobio data at Vista and my finger was literally about an inch from clicking sell before I remembered the apparent buff coming this week to payouts. I don't need the money at this point in the game, but a bit more progress up the exobio ladder won't go amiss so I disappointed the already disinterested VG representative behind the counter and exited.

Meanwhile just picked up a couple of suits in the early Black Friday sale, finally get to sport the retro suit I've been eyeing for a while. But the rest of the arx are tucked away for those sweet, sweet stygian paints next week....

I've no clue how to help with that one except maybe try a validate files from the launcher? If that's the one you use, natch.

You can hand in an Ody mission from your ship or a concourse terminal so perhaps try the other option to the one you're trying.

I'm clutching at straws, sorry :(
no, it a WDM, no option in concourse.

trying resync atm. if that doesn't help it will be a 15 million fine on top of the 117 million fine. :)

thanks

The carrier based Vista Genomics issue not taking the 25% does point to price set at time of sale.
But we already know that it clearly isn't.

I think they simply didn't bother taking 25% from biologics because there were worth so very little to begin with. When I come in with 100 million in exploration data, I typically have only 3 or 4 million in biologics.

I think they just figured the 25% from the exploration was more than enough.
