Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Everytime I jump my FC, I get a horrible feeling I've stranded someone. Why is there no way to know if someone's on board?
Anyway, I'm in the Orion Nebula for a snoop about. Not been here since 2015, though the GM doesn't seem to acknowledge that.

After a week of combat missions in the conflict zone for The Empire's Torval Mining Ltd. in it's war with The Federation's Tavgi Blue Life Inc., time to head home to Jameson Memorial and several rounds of drinks.

Drake's Fury acquitted itself well.

Ah very nice, 100m exactly - that is the highest single payout i’ve seen then :]

…don’t think i’ve had one with first discovery yet tbh - also fairly high up the list is Osseus Pelebantus, though it is quite rare in distribution and also difficult to locate even when it does appear.
My latest tangle with Osseus Pellebantus went pretty smooth, they were growing on semi big crater's rim.
In the same ballpark are Osseus Discus, Tubus Cavas, Clypeus Lacrimam and Frutexa Flammasis, and higher paying are all Receptas, Cactoida Vermis, Fonticulua Segmentis, Clypeus Speculumi and Aleoida Gravis, for example.

Just found a planet with 8 biologicals and had a fairly easy time getting all the samples. Clypeus Speculumi getting me 16Mcr. Not sure if I get a bonus for getting all samples. If not, I won't bother with Bacteriums again. They're a pain to find and not well paid.
Tussock Triticum7,774,700
Bacterium Aurasus1,000,000
Osseus Pellebantus9,739,000
Concha Renibus4,572,400
Frutexa Acus7,774,700
Cactoida Cortexum3,667,600
Fungoida Stabitis2,680,300
Clypeus Speculumi16,202,800

This planet had 4 biologicals. Tussock, Frutexa, Concha & Bacterium. All four existing within this enormous crater. I couldn't find the others at first, but the Alien Cantelope were everywhere. I decided to take the SRV up the crater wall (65° incline near the top) and the Trussock and Frutexa were growing on the slopes. I thought I'd fall off if I got out at one point.
Anyway, great view from the top.

At the moment I'm going backwards and forwards in the carrier Rajukru - Delta Pavonis - Rajukru, 187-odd LY trading the rares available in each system, in order to try to up my trading rank a bit, as I've hardly touched it since my 2015 stint and only the other day made it to Broker. Until just now, I'd only been using the T6 or the Python to take the rares to the carrier in several trips at each end (mixed in with doing a few local on-foot CZs at each end as well. )

I just arrived in the carrier at Rajukru and as I had 720 tons of Pavonis Ear Grubs this time, decided to use the T9 in order to offload them all in one go:

Slight problem at Rajukru this time around though - Pavonis Ear Grubs have since become illegal here since my last visit a couple of days ago and as soon as I left the carrier in the T9 got a message saying I've been fined 1,505,610 CR, so I straight away landed back on the carrier. Now I have to find another system somewhere at this end of the trade route where Pavonis Ear Grubs are legal... :sneaky:

Well, if you're rates trading by carrier, you could take a look at Hutton Orbital. Two rares at the station, usually in good supply. And the truckers are still running 2HOT2MESSY. The latter would mean, though, that you'll need to unload one set per port - I'd recommend something small (some of the Odyssey surface ports only got small pads) and combat ready, e.g. a Vulture.

Thanks and yes I had thought of trying Hutton Orbital. I could jump the carrier direct to Proxima I guess, without having to do that LOOOOONG trip in supercruise. At the moment though I'm doing an on-foot CZ close to Rajukru while I figure out what to do with all those Pavonis Ear Grubs in my carrier hold. Also, I now have some Rajukru Multi-Stoves there as well, which I picked up while I was paying that fine ... :p

I haven't logged into Elite for a week or so because I was fighting a stomach flu thingy. It was miserable, but mostly over now.

Yesterday, however, I picked up the new DLC for X4 Foundations, and it's sucked me back into that game.

X4 is equal parts brilliant and frustrating. Well, not really, it's more brilliant than frustrating, but it can be highly frustrating sometimes :)

It's a huge game, full of alien races (both friendly and hostile) and ships and an entire economy and war simulation. You start out poor with a crappy ship and can become a billionaire mogul running your own empire. There are many, many ways to play and proceed. It's actually difficult to describe, it's so massive. The graphics are quite good, although not quite up to Elite standards.

I've put nearly 900 hours into the game over the years, and it is an unforgettable experience.

On the other hand, many things don't work as you'd expect, there are many odd bugs and interactions that can happen, and a lot of quirky stuff that's just...odd, I guess. And the UI is a whole game in itself. Learning the UI is a big hurdle.

But it's a space game, and a good one, and it's single-player (and moddable, although I'm running vanilla for this new expansion, at least for now).

So I expect I'll be focusing a fair amount of time on X4 for a bit (although I won't stop playing Elite -- this game is a permanent part of my life I think :) )

Here's a couple screenshots from yesterday, if you're interested at all.

This is my character meeting one of the leaders of the Boron race (new with this DLC). They live in a liquid environment, so they are always in these odd little space suits when outside their chambers. My character is the human-looking female (she's actually Argonian). You can see a couple Boron on the right, and my Paranid boss in the middle. We're standing on the bridge of a Boron ship, and you can see a planet or two in the background.

This is the Boron fighter they gave me so that I can fulfill my mission for them. You can see the small elevator there/ You walk into it and it lifts you into the ship, where you then walk to the chair and sit down (if you want to fly it yourself, that is -- you can also hire crew to fly the ship for you and you can be a passenger or stay behind and give orders from there -- it's complicated).

This is the Boron carrier I'm on. You can see the landing pads, and one is occupied (by my ship). The Boron ships have a unique style, quite different from any others. Actually, each race has its own set of ships that they use, and once you become friendly with a race you can buy them for yourself. You can even build your own ships, once you progress to the point of having a shipyard of your own.

I'm having fun with it at the moment, so I will no doubt sink a bunch of hours into it.

And that's what I'm up to :p
