Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Well, for me, these data/goods delivery missions were my go-to missions to earn money and rep as it usually doesn't include any shooting.
But with the short-distance deliveries MIA, this gets a lot more complicated.
In particular with the shortage of chaos-free real life time I'm facing at the moment.

It was only meant to be a quick jump but Ratraii was full of bounty targets. I interdicted one guy and it turned out to be six with as many system security turning up after. Just run of the mill bounty stuff though. No elite Anacondas.

Only one player in the system. Maybe heading for the same carrier.

Aaaand I just remembered I have to log back in and ship the Cobra aboard. Assuming that's possible.
You should have grabbed some data delivery missions back to the bubble, they are worth a lot of credits. Ratraii and Ogmar are the two systems I bounty hunt in, the gas giants are where the Elite NPC's are found at the hazardous extraction sites. I've never understood why some cmdrs come out here and immediately go back to the bubble, must be anxiety.

I didn't really think about delivery missions but I was mostly in the combat section. It could've been handy though.

And I'm really just heading back because of increased activity in the bubble. Plus it gives me a chance to visit Shinrarta. I'm not even sure if I did that on my original account.

It won't take long to head back to Colonia on a carrier and do some more exploration. I may even skip that if I have a Mandalay with better jump range. The Cobra could make things grindy at times.

Doing some of the obligatory rescue missions from Sol.

Not the first time I've used the Argent Shield for refugee running, but since I'd heard things are a bit spicy, I loaded her up with double ECMs and quadruple point defense turrets.

The first run was a little hairy, with the bugs somehow repeatedly overtaking me at 476m/s... but that may have been an actual 'bug' since they didn't manage to stop me jumping out. The subsequent loops have had no such problems, always being able to boost away, fire the first ECM early, and not get my FSD taken offline at any point. So far that's over 600 civilians evacuated with not a single loss. I'm almost confident enough to lose the shield generator for more capacity... but I'm not sure it's worth it.

At this point, I have swapped a couple of economy cabins for business and first class, since I now have a lot of allies in the system and they're willing to pay a premium. The down side is they apparently have a chance to want a change of destination, which left me dropping off everyone else at the rescue ship then being back at Sol before I noticed them still hanging out in the premium cabin, taking advantage of the minibar and wondering why we're not at Epsilon Eridani yet. Still, turns out that if you jump out with passengers, get interdicted, evade, and come back to Sol with those passengers, you don't get interdicted on the second exit.

Mission rewards are extremely varied in general to the point they seem a little broken; some economy groups only offer 100k credits, while one offered 25 million.

Edit: nope, there is definitely about a 25% chance these guys will give serious chase, knock out my thrusters and pester me. So far I'm getting away from them with very little damage other than complete shield failure.

Meantime, lots of materials from all these missions with allied minor factions 😸

Possibly not a bug some of the newer Thargoids, Glaives?, are supposed to be capable of over 500. I have read they are most interested in escape pods but will take passengers as well.

I get around the issues with passengers by never opening the message window until after they have been delivered where they asked to go when I agreed to take them, if they wanted to go somewhere else then they should have asked before getting aboard. It would have got them left behind as I am not going anywhere other than the nearest rescue ship.

I only have economy cabins fitted this is an evacuation not a cruise, missions are selected from legal groups offering mats I think I can accept, thirdly I look at the money.

They only use the lightning weapon if you have shields on allegedly, they are looking to disable you enoght to use limpets to steal escape pods and passengers.

As I am many years out of practice they have got through to me with anti Frame Shift Drive missiles a few times but haven’t got in range to do anything else my Orca may only take 82 at a time but it can cruise at over 500 and boost to over 640.

Well fingers crossed the ventral point defense turrets are taking care of those limpets. They're definitely spending some ammo every trip and I've yet to lose a passenger even on the rough runs 😸

Meanwhile, finished my personal goal of picking up at least one load of refugees from every significant port in the Sol system. Sadly some of them were in darkness. Will try the one on Europa again later, I'd like to see that properly lit... There are some smaller installations left, but I don't trust them to have a large pad!

Gained about 200 mil and a lot of materials so far. At this rate I'll end up full on manufactured+encoded. Which would be a nice first world problem to have 😹

From the threads over in DD it seems likely Point Defence turrets aren’t very effective against Thargoid stuff they talk about using ECM especially a small blip of it if the limpet makes contact.

In the end, I am using both. I'd read that PDTs do nothing vs regular Thargoid missiles, but they may be effective against their hatchbreakers.

Either way, the ship is doing what I wanted it to do. No point changing loadout until I want to do something else 😸

So yeah, that didn't work, my "ideal" combo of systems is as-documented but sadly it seems not as-implemented. I've made a fortune in credits accidentally whilst testing stuff out for merits though.

So back to Plan A - head to the edge of the bubble and expand the influence outwards as far as it will go absent colonisation, in order to prime the pump for colonisation. And when cartography credits get fixed, I'll be doing exploration sorties too.

Thought I'd give Sol hand in my non-engineered stripped down rescue python, doesn't even boost. That was a surprise. Had fewer customer complaints than you might expect... Took me a long time to get back to the rescue ship you might say.

I've returned to Sol now with core modules the same size as the holes and some PDTs. Will try again when I'm back in the cockpit.

I logged in to check where the carrier was and I noticed discoveries being made as I was in the hanger, like when you travel through a system. Am I collecting data as a passenger?

Not that I'd expect many creds from that.
Kind of. I think it works the way that being in hangar puts you basically in the scanning range of the main star (i. e. like when jumping in a ship, as you're in a ship after all), while being on board of carrier does not, and as in a ship you are automatically scanning those close bodies. Not many credits - just for that main star + a planet or two that are close enough - same way when you jump through the systems without stopping for fss and such.

You know... I used to think the 3x Earth stations were equally spaced, but now I'm wondering if they are in geostationary orbit around the respective longitudes for their country...

(Lincoln was in the dark.)

Also, is it just me, or are there a lot more criminals wanting pickup at MG and LQJ vs AL? Subtle political commentary, perhaps? 😹

Meanwhile...
