Absolutely this - have to be frank, having given it some time, fleet carriers have ruined the game for me. My family knew about my expedition out to Colonia, now it appears that the whole thing was a waste of time. There was a guy on FB this morning, half way back from Colonia, didn't fancy the 300 jumps he had left, so was asking someone to come pick him up in a fleet carrier. He's logging back in when they let him know that they're there. Sorry to say it, but as it sits and for my style of gameplay, the 'must have everything now' tranche of society have ruined my favourite ever game and I am incredibly sad about it. Playing more RDR than Elite, suddenly, and might be done entirely. Am actually in mourning.
I can sympathise thoroughly!
I have filtered FCs out of my nav panel, and play in solo. That does go a long way to ignoring them in-game, at least, which I found helpful. Of course, it doesn't hide the pandemic of them appearing on the system map if you go somewhere where they are infesting, but they are mostly confined to the inhabited areas. I'm hoping that there will eventually be an "ignore carriers" option for the sysmap.
Then I'm just trying to ignore the posts about them "popping over to Sag A" or "can anyone give me a lift back from Beagle Point" and such like. Which isn't easy, of course. It's hard to ignore that sort of obvious devaluation, especially reading the forums here, but at least it can be brushed aside as being "something other people are doing elsewhere" rather than directly impacting your own game.
It might be worth trying to get round them like that for a while?
