Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Haven't bought into Odyssey,
I haven't started drinking the cool-aid yet either. I've got no problem with it and will probably start sooner or later. For now I don't want it to ruin my pilot game. So long as I have no reason to leave my seat, for doodads and whotsits, and my machine performance carries on without the need for graphics capabilities I don't use, I'll be happy for now. Hope that didn't sound too Grinch-like, wasn't meant to be.

While you are talking CZs - A tip for new readers: Always plot a course to a nearby system before engaging (and check it isn't obscured when you are in the CZ) - that way if you are getting your posterior handed to you on a plate all you have to do is retract weapons, select "next system in route" (you DID create that control binding didn't you?) - and h-jump out.

I had to use that twice yesterday when the whole screen turned red - stupid NPCs getting in the way.
Whats the difference between doing what you suggested and just retracting hardpoints and hitting supercruise? Since the CZ guys wont chase your low wake?

You can be mass locked, going to low wake. Which means it will either take a long time to wake out, and you get destroyed during that time, or you can’t low wake at all. Try going to low wake next to an Anaconda or a Cutter and see what happens :)

High wake isn’t affected by mass lock, so it always works. Assuming your FSD is intact :)

Spent part of yesterday in the alpha, trying a few different mission types. I found this one installation, Cukkemane Hydroponics Estate, that needed power restored. I like these, they are pretty easy and laid back, as long as enemies don't spawn on a threat 0. If they do, I relog until they don't.

Anyway, the point is that while exploring that base after I got the power on, I found a couple of sample containers that required access level 2 to open. I had access level 3 since it was a power restore mission, and they always give you authorization. So I tried to open the sample containers. They took about 3 minutes to actually open. There was a progress bar, so I waited. I took the two samples, which counted as "goods" in my bag.

When I went to sell them to the bartender/fence gal, I got 100k! I was quite chuffed. That was more than the mission payout. In fact the total for the goods and assets I collected that run was 535k, much more than I usually come back with.

I'm just trying to build up some credits for the next phase, when we can buy/upgrade our ships and start enjoying having more options.

I wonder how much the next suit will cost? Will I even need it, if I don't do a lot of combat? It'll be interesting to see.

In any case, I'm going to buy a Viper or Cobra or something probably. Or at least upgrade the Sidey. I should have over 10 million by the end of today so I'll have options. I don't know what ships will actually be available, or what modules for them. I'm looking forward to it, though.

Cukkemane in daylight, before I got rid of the intruders :) :

Well, I'm just ambling along on my journey back to the bubble. Odessey may well be a full release by the time I get back. Could even be in the discount bin at this rate. Glad you CMDRs are enjoying the Alpha. The pics look amazing!
I had another close encounter with a binary. They really freak me out!

A lovely pair, I wasn't sure which to scoop first!!
I was under the impression [wrongly], that if you land on a body and collect all the resources and log out, they'll be there again when you log back in. A shame, I found this one with some rare-ish minerals.

Nice BBQ site though.
99 jumps to the Sadr cloud.

Just thinking out aloud. In planets with no breathable atmosphere and suits are needed, it is quite the height of bad darwinian engineering to build bases like you would on Earth, with multiple small_separate_ buildings/structures.

Perhaps the thinking is that if one gets blown up/malfunctions, they can run to another. Eggs in one basket as it were. Mind you, you'd think they'd have terraforming off to a fast and fine art by now, making toxic atmospheres so 30th century.

Probably put a crimp in Remlock's sales pitch though. Who are probably in with TPTB to control the money flow. In case any tin foil hat wearers may be reading.

Terraforming might well be a fine art but it won’t be that quick (just think how big a planet and its atmosphere are) and getting a dense enough breathable atmosphere on worlds that can only hold on to a tenuous one is probably not worth the effort in most cases.

Oh, I dunno...

We can sccop fuel from stars, fly at supra-light speeds in systems and jump through hyperspace tunnels... :D
