Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Do you have to re-engineer with the same people for your suits and weapons? I don't even think she got my FSD to grade 5 yet. I don't have the materials, I think.
No idea yet! I won't be chasing mats - not even sure if they've made into stage 2 at the moment - as that's a grind too far.

I'll wait for the CMDR snapshot to be cut over before I look into suit/weapon/equipment engineering. I'm sure they'll want different, new mats too.

I might start a players union if they introduce more materials to grind. I've probably not mentioned this before but I don't like engineering.

Oh they are definitely adding more mats for upgrading the on-foot suits and weapons. I guess if you hate the current engineering then you might not like that either. For me personally it's great. Gives me stuff to do.

But right now I'm not in the alpha, I've been working on a little project, a T-10. I haven't owned one in quite a while, but I think I finally have a use for one.

I decided to build a turret boat, and the T-10 is the obvious choice with so many hardpoints. This is just for jollies. I plan to explore massacre missions because that seems to be what everyone is doing lately and I've never messed with them.

I did a test run with it and it worked pretty well. Needs some tweaking. :)

Massive nerd fanboy confirmed.

The T-10 does look nice though. (y)

Well, I'm back in the bubble.First thing I did was engineer my DBX FSD. Got a jump range of 58Ly now!
Flew it SIrius, which is where I'm going to call home for the time being. I've called my Vulture over and just bought a Krait.
I tried engineering the FSD on the Krait and then relalised I'd forgotten to A rate it first!! Been away from this malarkey too long!
I've now got an E rated FSD with grade 4 mods. Jump range ~11Ly, lol.

Greetings!

Here I am, about 51,000 LY away from the bubble, and away from all the Odyssey stuff. I have been mapping that outer rim area of the Sagittarius-Carina Arm, which I call Mare Orientalis (the East Sea). No, you won't find this name on any galactic map in ED but I call it this way because it is a large, long region in the eastern part of the galaxy. In addition, it has been mostly unexplored for years except the stars that mark the intergalactic border and a couple of hundred stars that are within that sea.

This is the way the area looks as of now, after I have submitted the data to EDSM so the ED Astrometrics map can be updated:

As you can see, I am focusing first on the northern part of Mare Orientalis. When Odyssey comes, I will return to the bubble and get the necessary equipment for enhanced exploration (suit for exploration, genetic sampler). It takes me only a couple of days to return to the bubble from the galactic rim.

Then I will be returning to complete the exploration of the southern part of Mare Orientalis. I have noted that the northwestern galactic rim is already being explored in more detail, complete with some systems that seem to be reachable only by fleet carrier: Note the blue dots that stick out of the galactic rim (this is in the Outer Scutum-Centaurus Arm region).

Tomorrow I will keep exploring Mare Orientalis. It should take a few more weeks to fill the remaining empty regions.

With the stock FSDs - I tend to buy a couple of extra A rated ones and store them - just in case I need them somewhere, where they are not available. And when upgrading FSDs at an engineering site, I tend to transfer all those stocked A rated ones, which I could upgrade there, and upgrade them. This way I have pretty much always an A rated FSD in stock, eventually even upgraded already.

Um... what is a "thread squadron"? Sorry if this sounds dense...

I do have a private group already set up that some have joined although none of us appear to have teamed up on it yet. Is this the same thing?
Just meant starting a squadron in game which we all join. With ten of us we could get a home system. Properly doesn't matter!
Appears I didn’t actually bother saving enough poor souls at Hahn Gateway, as I’ve only crept up a couple of ranks to Lieutenant in the Federation.

And hats off to Simon - Elite combat is mighty. Have finally crept over the threshold to Competent this evening (while blowing up an an Elite Ananaconda which went pop bizarrely easily). Might go visit Broo and see if he can help speed me through Quite Competent, on whatever the next one is.
Thank you! (belatedly)

I did a short video on how to use the camera suite. Folks have told me it's helpful, maybe it will help you too!

That's really very helpful indeed, thank you so much. Must start repaying these favours, some time.
I once said this to a lady working behind the bar, "God loves a trier", I said, quick as lightning she replied, "Yeah but he hates chancers".

Needless to say, my request for credit that day, was denied.
The power of the internet - that made me laugh out loud, weeks after you posted it.
You’re way ahead of me. Anyway, I found a link.
DIscord is really helpful for squadron logistics, suddenly have it for lots of games, but it's really just a quick text chat interface. Goes cross-platform, so sidesteps that issue.
I suppose, now, the work really starts...

Any chance of posting the build? Be interested to see it.

Wait, I cant rem the CG requirements or if its open to all, but for Class 5 can you just buy the double engineered one straight from tech broker and not bother with DIY.

Here is mine. Might not be 100% of what I built (e.g. 1 or 2 experimentals different) but very close. It works on AFK in low res to med res (2 pips shield 4 pips weap). On Haz you need to be at the controls. It did get blown up once on a Med but as I wasnt watching I am not sure what happened.

Lightening the thrusters to 7D and putting non-light alloy hull would make a better afk build but I also fly the damn thing on normal so its not specialised for pure afk.

I love the T10. Mine has prismatics and more multis, don't bother with the fuel scoop or cargo etc but as a fun mayhem combat ship I can't beat it. Deploy Trident fighter, set turrets to auto target and just have a hoot. With full engineering it's an animal.

Good advice and I was beginning to think along those lines, though I don't quite have the credit reserves yet.
I've moved back to Shinrata and consolidated my ships there. I can kit them out to a decent spec (at a discount!) and then engineer them.
I've exhausted some materials with my 5E FSD engineering folly, so I need to get the DBX to Dev's Hope or hunt some more degraded emissions and pin some more blueprints for remote workshop(only one blueprint per engineer is a bit snide).
But tonight I'm going to buy a Dolphin and have some fun.

Interesting! How does it compare to a pulse laser/MC built Corvette I wonder... a little side project, methinks!
Yes, sadly as @Yingnei Gasua gasua says, the Corvette if flown by a player commander will slaughter the T10. Despite engineering, the T10 just can't come close to matching the Corvette's rate of turn. I can take down elite NPC Corvettes/Anacondas etc in the T10, including taking on more than one at once, but that is why I have the fighter hangar - I need my pilot to cover my rear while I turn the ship. When we did build testing in squadron, in PVP they either melt your fighter then you're in big trouble (like, might never bring weapons to bear again) or they can stay behind you while absorbing whatever the fighter can dish out. The Corvette is too nimble for it in PVP. Against NPCs it is fine, though. We had a wing of four T10s out in Combat Zones in a war a while back and spec ops were just lambs to the slaughter.
