Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

HELP! Doing some ground mission where I have to salvage some data card from a ship. It says search the panels for the card.

1. Threat 2 only. I see 5 guys around the ship. OK I'll nuke em from orbit with my trip G5 beams. ...... what... its so hard to hit em, and it takes multiple hits with a friking large G5 beam to kill even 1 guy. I just landed and took em out a a shotgun. THIS IS DUMB.

2. There is only 1 panel on the ship. I got some power regulator on it. Got nausea from motion sickness running round the ship trying to find something where I can press E or use the arc cutter on but there is NOTHING! Even went back to SRV to recharge suit 3 times. But NADA!

3. In the SRV, I can see many materials on the scanner, but they are unscoopable. From the screenshots below, you can see some of them look to be underground.... Is it a bug?

Anyone else got similar annoying missions? I think I will stick to spaceships for now. ED OFF!

Has the price of metals been nerfed? Can't seem to find anywhere that will give over 10k per ton of gold. Been to places on Inara that say ~60k ton (and updated within the hour), but when I get there it's still 10k.

Personally I would advise against all trading and mining as the economy has been reset and is completely bonkers, right now.
It'll take a week or a couple for it to settle down and the offer and demand figures to reach some semblance of sense.

Naturally, if nobody is trading and mining, this will never happen. Sooo... Yeah, knock yourself out.

Well. I found where steam had downloaded odyssey, even though IT forgot where it had downloaded odyssey, so I copied all the files from that spot, into the Elite dangerous folder in steam. now I am verifying the files so any errors get corrected, so we'll see. If I am lucky, I won't have to redownload the entire odyssey download again. if I am not, I will, and if I am REALLY not, I'll have to uninstall and reinstall both, which will hurt my feelings in the extreme and probably make me write a very foul mouthed nasty, rude, angry, biting filled with salt email to steam and tell them where they can shove their software, and how deep to shove it.

One really learns a lot about oneself. Explores some boundaries and such.

After steam verified the files, it's now downloading just under 10 gigs that the original download lost when steam ctd, That's upto 10 hours of download so I'm gonna go take a nap.

Accidentally released a limpet collector while docking at a space port and he died.

I've only just bothered to figure out and use material traders the last couple of days. They seem handy. Definitely worth bookmarking the nearest three to any home system.

After completed a handful of leftover cargo missions I'll see if I can get some minor engineering done on the Cobra and Python after the rebuy incident. I may even try some mining with the Python.

Just got me some nice chicken fillets for a vindaloo. If there's one thing I like about Elite, it's the ability to cook an entire curry during gameplay.

By the way, have we always been able to drop collector limpets in analysis mode or is that one of Fdev's new 'fixes'? That's two I've lost now. I may have to move them from the disco scanner fire group.

Yes we have, they are used that way in mining where all the tools need to be in analysis mode.

sighs I won't be playing Horizon or Odyssey. It seems something in the Odyssey files causes my computer to 100% go unresponsive regardless of which version of the game I am trying to launch. I get the game loading screen, and then freeze solid. Nothing responds at all, forcing a hard reboot. To say I am frustrated, would be an understatement.

Hm, drivers maybe - new releases require most of the time a graphics driver upgrade - have you checked already, if you have the latest driver for your GPU installed? During start up shader and planetary tech are prepared - is it freezing there, earlier or later?

The launcher starts. Then I press start for the game. It gets to the splash screen of either odyssey or Horizons (which ever I tried to launch) and freezes dead. I had already updated Horizons before I decided to buy Odyssey and had no issues with the game after the update. But I decided to buy Odyssey, and now BOTH game options freeze before they do anything other than show a splash screen.

I'm not sure if the Steam launcher is the same as the normal launcher, but if it is, there should be "Options" button at the top and in the consequent roll-down menu a "Validate game files" option.
I would try that first as your Steam client apparently can't be trusted, right now.

Yes and right after those splash screens is normally the preparation of shaders and the planetary generator - if you don't see this, it is likely that is related to your graphics driver. Check if you have the latest for your GPU installed. What Chris Simon said is something I assumed you have already done - verifying game files.

That option doesn't appear in the Steam launcher but within Steam itself you can right-click the game >properties > local files and then verify files. I've never had to try it though.

Strange. I did try to make modules and fire groups conform across ships the other day so maybe the limpet controller didn't used to be next to the disco scanner. I'll see if it keeps happening before changing anything. It may have just been a freak coincidence.

The steam launcher launches the normal launcher. I'm validating files again with the steam launcher and then will try with Frontiers launcher and see what happens. But I suspect I'm going to be forced to uninstall and re-install, and if that happens, Me and steam are going to have words and most of mine will be based upon 4 letter words.

I can't update my video drivers because the last three sets of radeon drivers have caused 2 other games to not be playable (ctds on launch), and one of those 2 games I pay $60.00 a month to play 4 accounts with. I'm not happy at the thought of having to choose between this game and 2 other games because radeon can't keep their drivers consistently able to run games that came out 4 years ago. I'll drop Elite before that.
