Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I took my first "exterminate" mission. Totally illegal, I had to wipe out an entire base. This is not what I normally do, but I guess every man has his price. Mine was 3 Power Regulators. :p

There were 17 people in that settlement, and I systematically cut them all down, starting with the civilians in the Habitat.

I became a Wanted man, for good reason.

Oddly, though, I was unable to get the Interstellar Factors to wipe my records. They said I had no bounties. But when I returned to the turn-in station, I was definitely Wanted. I had to sneak in to land, and then turn myself in. It was the only way to clear the bounties. A bug, I guess.

The good news is that I managed to pull it off. Not sure I'll do another one, though. I prefer shooting bad guys. Or just stealing stuff without anyone noticing. :)

Here's how my stealthy little ship looks now, with its new raider decal thingy. It blends into the sky well, don't you think?

1. I think there is a bug, happened to me where I had to fly to another system to pay at a different Inter factor.

2. Or, if you are at the station controlled by the faction who put the bounty on you head, you cannot pay it at the IS, you have to go to the Authority Contact and turn yourself in.

Odyssey is turning me into some galactic miscreant with constant bounties. If the fleet carrier allowed an IS, I would go mount one right away.

In other news: I have been running around doing missions and salvaging stuff to try to get my Upgraded Backpack. However, this very process has filled my storage with enough junk that I am now skipping all the common spam 'Nutritional Concentrate, Insight, Personal Comp, G Meds, Fossils etc', even stuff like electrical coil or wires are too common. The ones I need now are specific data and tech. With the ability to skip, it is not easy to fill up the 15 +30 slots on the standard pack anyway, so I am reconsidering if I want to do another mod like damage resist (I do all my fighting in the Maverick) or improved battery.

Greetings!

I am doing biological sampling in a system in the northwestern section of the Synaisa sector, 2850 LY above the galactic plane. There are 2 stars, and the one that has the planets with the biologicals is about 530,000 LY from the entry point. So, while the Annie cruised toward that system, I did some real life chores, like vacuuming and dusting the house.

When I arrived to the first planet, the DSS showed 5 biologicals. It took me some time, but I did manage to get the samples for all 5. This included taking the SRV through deep canyons to get the fungoids.

The following are from the second planet:

Yes, there is a solar eclipse (the black ball in the Milky Way).

In these two planets, bacteria and fungoids were the hardest to find. The others were very easy and abundant.

To reach this particular system, it took two neutron star assists.

The rocket launcher is effective against shields and armour plus it has a great range advantage, if the target is in cover you can sometimes get them anyway with nearby hits, ammo as always is an issue.
Not if you use the plasma shotgun like I do. Just blast away.
Hmm. I've not seen either of those weapons on sale. Where would I find them?

And I just got klilled for no reason. I was given a keycode for a crate and took the mission requirement from it. Suddenly, I was caught red handed and unarmed and dispatched with extreme prejudice. Is that a bug or is that normal? Should I have waited until the NPC was gone? I was sure I was operating legally. Hmm.

'Course, I'm now having to take numerous shuttles to get back to my ship...

EDIT Hah! Just found a Karma L6 Launcher!

EDIT 2: Gratuitous screeny

It seems that the Imp Courier has a second coming these days. I even tried it myself. Great handling, but that fuel scoop?!? I guess it makes up for that with it's good looks ;)

Has Odd introduced settlements with small landing pads only, and can't you just park outside the base and walk the rest of the way with your new legs?

You can walk. But I also found out, when doing some of the 'kill everything at the base' missions, that you can manual land an AspX onto a small pad.

I have made camp at a compact little system. It's been at war all week and my efforts to change this have failed.
So, doing the mat gathering at Irregular markers. I was using a sidewinder, it can get in close to the containers for landing, 50-100m.
Generally I could get in get the most of the goods. Then run away when I hear the blue guys ship drop in. Was working ok.
Got caught out when they dropped right be side me, no time for any thing , ran hard for the boarding ramp around the back of the ship!! too far to run!
Rebuy time. Now using an eagle for these missions. why? , because the runaway boarding ramp is at the front. With the lights on in the dark I just run for it.

I have not had to go back to Horizons for any reason as yet. Odyssey is working well enough with the occasional color error disconnect.
Happy to consider staying in Odyssey and walking away from Horizons. The sooner all is consolidated the better.

Tactic that works well for me (so far): if the IM is infected with badsters, missile them to oblivion from a safe distance. Wait for the drop ship to deploy reinforcements. Missile them too. My Alliance Chieftan is a good ship as it has lots of hardpoints.

Land. Plunder those containers.

So far, I've only had one reinforcement drop so it's been fine. I'm not sure if higher threat = more drop ship deployments.

Yeah, missiles good. Finding on those missions from factions to size and larceny hidden caches. Threat 1-3 may not have any blue guys when you get there.
Those three large containers can be looted good. The two small ones using e-breaches is quick. About this time they drop in.
Once I repowered the suit, using the power pole in the center, and heard an alarm sound. About 30 secs later a ship dropped in the troops. May be a sequence that does not triggered a ship, or its all just timing.

Yes, but that's not the reason I'm using it. I use it because it's small enough to land anywhere, has excellent shields for resisting ground fire, and is very fast for escaping as needed. And it's cool looking.

I never land on the pads, myself, even though I could. If I happen to raise the alarms at a station that has ground-to-air turrets, they will target my ship. The NPCs will sometimes target my ship if they see me close to it, also. My Courier has prismatic shields and a couple of boosters. They are quite sturdy.

So I park just outside the base, usually behind a small rise if there is one, or a big rock. Then I just walk in or take the SRV if I think I'll need the storage.

Yes, I've noticed this myself. Lots of the best mission rewards are from illegal missions.

You can hear the engine sound of the incoming ship, so there is enough advance warning to run back to your SRV or ship to blow em away with heavier weapons.

Contrary to my 21st century self, my 34th century alter-ego is turning into a kleptomaniac.

I hear it is. There's one guy (Hawkes) who's claiming to have spent over 300 hours already figuring this stuff out, so he can write the ultimate guide. 300 hours!

I don't mind having some ideas about states and whatnot, but I'm not interested in the fast farming techniques that require logoff/login or ridiculously repetitive gameplay. That bores me, and I won't do it. I'd rather take longer and have fun in the process.

I mean, what's that guy gonna do now? He's maxxed out all his suits and weapons and that leads to...nothing new. Ah well, that's how he wants to play. It's ok with me as long as he's happy with it, I guess.
To be fair to Hawkes it is his job. He is a YouTube content creator and he needs get the guides out to boost his subs, Patreons and get more income. I agree with you though much rather collect stuff while I am doing normal game play not do the same thing over and over. Which is why I wish they would allow trading in all Odyssey materials! Then, although it might be slow you can scoop up everything and change it for something useful at some point.

And on that note - have anybody figured out the mats exchange at the bar?
Because I haven't. ANd I'm not willing to sacrifice my couple of rare finds on experimenting.

Why couldn't they use the same UI the other mats traders use? Click on a thing you want to get rid of, click on a thing that you need, check exchange rate, confirm. That was a pretty intuitive system, no?
Apparently "Innovation at any cost" is the new name of the game. :p
Not that it's something new, of course. Whole industries during the last 40 years or so are bringing us less and less functional products for more and more money. I guess that's how "Economy growth" is done, I'm no expert.

Okay I didn't plan this to sound so salty.
But really - could anybody explain the Odyssey mats exchange to me? In short simple words, preferably. Pretend I'm 9.

Completely agree. It doesn’t need to be different to Horizons. They have gone back to the original system with a blanket storage. Much better if we have bins for the Odyssey materials and a straight forward exchange systems for all the materials. Also the bar tender doesn’t do the trading he sells you a drink and points out the guy doing the trades!

Ok I can try. You select 'I want to trade', then you choose which of the 3 asset groups 'Circuits, Tech, Chemicals'. (Only can trade assets, not goods and data).

You can only trade tech for tech, circuits for circuits, no cross group trade.

Once you select, say, Tech. It will display the list of all the Tech assets. The number in green on the left of the asset, is the cost to for YOU TO BUY.

You click on ONE line in the list, that will be the item you want to trade for, e.g. Carbon Fibre Plating. Its 11 pts.

It will then bring you to a similar screen, where you will see the numbers on the left, is lower. (e.g. carbon fibre is now 6 pts). This is the points of the VALUE OF YOUR TRADE IN.

So you choose what you want to trade for the carbon fibre. The Carbon Fibre is 11 pts each, so you need to trade in enough other goods to make up at least 11 pts. If you trade in enough to make at least 22 pts, then you get 2 units of the Carbon Fibre. Any excess is wasted, e.g. if you trade in 32 pts worth, you will only get 2 Carbon Fibre and waste the excess 10 pts.

It seems that only the 'Tech' subgroup is an issue. I get so much excess if the 'Circuits' and 'Chemicals' that I sell them for credits to clear space. But Tech is always in short supply.

So is the system willing to let you trade 2 Carbon Fibre (12pts) for 1 Carbon Fibre (11pts) leaving you with 1pt wasted and a new source of salt?
