Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

When you first launch it, it should look like this:

NOTE: look in the bottom left corner and make sure that the version of the game you are playing is selected. If it isn't, you may need to "install them" by going to the Main Menu / Install EDHM option.

Then make sure your game version is selected after that.

After all of that, the themes should be there. Bear in mind those are only for ship huds. To get to the on foot huds, click on the box in the lower right hand corner in that center section that says "On foot HUD" and you'll see this:

There are no themes. You have to manually select the colors you want in the menu on the right to change each element, then go into the game and hit F11 to refresh it and see how it looks.

Rinse, repeat until you get it how you want it.

Laser mining fills up all the lower elements very, very quickly.
Ok thanks, I'll give that one a try. I don't currently have a mining laser fitted on my Asp, but I think I have one on the Cobra I could rob if I can't find one in outfitting. I think I did some mining in my previous stint in ED back in 2015, before my absence of several years until now. I might not even do the mining in the Asp anyway but maybe the Cobra or another of my ships.

Some of the recommendations for the Anaconda as an explorer come from a while ago before Odyssey and Fleet Carriers, when if you wanted to explore something a long way away its superior jump range even with a lot of equipment was a time saver. But even then its supercruise handling and large landing footprint counted against it.

Nowadays with much more to do on a planet the size issue is more significant, and with Fleet Carriers to get a ride on to the remote corners of the galaxy extreme jump range is also less important.

Personally I think the greatest asset for an exploration ship is you like to be in it and fly it for a long time.
The first time I went to Colonia was in my Anaconda. I copied the long range fit from a forumer but when I wanted to land on a planet for a break, I realized I had too litle control over the ship because the Thrusters were so underpowered.

From my PoV it's down to each player needs, myself I can't stay awake for too long while going through hundred of jumps, my carrier is a personal choice fitting my own need for let's say, safer travel.

If you're only mining for mats, you don't need a refinery, either - just make sure to put any minerals your limpets might pick up on the "ignore" list (and don't forget to unignore later on if you actually want to go mining for profit).

If you're after material here are some good spot I visited myself and can confidently guaranty as safe and rewarding in terms of time spent for the amount of material farmed.

Forgot to say you'll need an SRV..

OK, working now. Thanks again!

Out of curiosity, which one(s) do you use?

Oh, and a point to note: it will override any colour configs you might already have (of course) so I'll need to reset it back to my mocha - the default dayglo orange is too much for me :D

I'd advise you to fit an SRV and visit those planets. You will farm those grade 4 materials a lot faster than by mining, the elements you get from laser mining are more like a bonus and comparatively it would take you ten time as long to get any significant quantity of them not to mention you don't know what you'll get, it's random.

I estimated last time I done that that it took me an average of 45 mn to get 150 unit of each element and I do it regularly, not only to feed my Corvette with ammo but also because I regularly change ships so I alsi need to farm materials to engineer them...

I'm out doing the exobiology thing again, in an untraveled section of space. I'm still just one carrier jump from Colonia, though. Gives me a few options :)

Usually when I get a First Footfall on a planet, I take a screenshot of it. I try to get into a decent position before the notification happens, so that the screenshot will be memorable. Much of the time, however, there's not much to see. Or I forget and I'm looking at the ground or something.

So it's rare to get one like this from today, so nicely composed and with various plantlife in there as well. I think this is the best First Footfall image I've taken thus far.

I put the Gold paintjob on my Scarab. I bought the paintjob years back, and it definitely looked more golden then. I guess it's faded over time :p

Enough years back and one of the paint jobs was Gold which I liked though some complained it was too pale so FDev reworked it into Golden which was a much stronger colour, they were kind enough not to delete Gold paint jobs we already had and added the Golden version of the paint job as well for each Gold paint job we had.

Also some colours are different in Odyssey.

I thought collector limpets ignored fragments containing minerals when there is no refinery fitted.

The route planner doesn’t like to get too far off a straight line so gets easily messed up by permit locks, plotting shorter routes can help but if it is a widespread or complex set of permit locks you might be reduced to plotting individual jumps to get clear.
I discovered those by honking systems around the carrier after a jump, the planner did't take me to them just close to.

I made some biological and geological discoveries in a 19 planet system, now I'm going straight to Phroea Phio CE-L B14-7 for Low Temperature Diamonds and Bromellite, I'm 3 jumps from it, hopefuly I can sell them when I'm back, I'll resume exploration on my way back, I'll target a different system to make sure I'm not on the samne track.
