Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I had to reload two of my crash site jobs several times today, to get the mission goods to load, ..they sound easy but then they often bug out. One of them had to fight a crowd twice, ...and in the other third reload the cover finally fell OFF so I could grab the supercapacitor. I tried to shoot that thing off sooo much, wouldn't come off, pesky little plate

AFK waiting for the weekend's notoriety to bubble away zzz so the factor will talk to me ZZZZ
You're meant to use the cutting tool on the Maverick suit. Shooting it with a gun won't work.

The numbers are in the opposite corners. When right handers spread left handed cards, they can't see what the cards are other than the top one. Lefties spread cards the opposite direction, so the opposite corner is revealed.
I had guessed that that was the difference, embarrassingly I hadn’t thought it through enough to get to the reason why.

That's why I always pop the 1 panel after the scan.

I can't count the number of times I've seen "27 objects found" and popped the 1 panel and seen only 5 or 6 objects listed. It's like someone came blasting through, saw those and just kept on getting it leaving most of the system undiscovered.
Back in ancient times exploration was different, the possibly relevant difference here would be the discovery scanner which wasn’t the built in unit we have now that can find every body within a system but a choice between 3 modules a Basic unit that could only find things within a few hundred light seconds an Intermediate unit with a range of a few thousand light seconds or the most expensive Advanced unit which could span the whole system.
If you had one of the cheaper units you would miss anything out of range.

All that would just find that planets were present to get the information that we get with the FSS we had to fly within range of each planet with an active Detailed Discovery Scanner another module but not one with mapping capabilities they arrived with the new system.

Another quirk was that you could discover planets in the system but not get the star as you had to point at bodies long enough for a scan to happen which doesn’t always happen with the arrival star especially if you were just passing through the system.

Some just need the energy link to power them up
So you mean that "energy link" isn't only there to recharge the suit, it can also be used in reverse to power e.g. a door to a habitat (after removing the lid that hides the socket)?

I was wondering where to find a battery to plug into that socket when I found such a door. Now all I have to do is to find out how to use that energy link. After I've unloaded all that Cobalt from my carrier so I have some pocket money for the next few weeks.

Correct.

Some doors just need a power up to open. Others - such as those at irregular markers on storage units - need to be overcharged before they'll open.

Two other uses for the energy link:

1) They can be used to power on computer screens (useful at powered off settlements for finding stuff)
2) In overcharged mode, you can stun an unsuspecting NPC (takes practice).

Are you sure about the stun bit?

I thought it was supposed to kill them quietly which was why security got so trigger happy if you had the thing out and in that mode.

I don't know if they've just messed something up or done it intentionally, but it's pretty much over for making money mining right now.
Well, I gave Plat mining a try to validate it is working and it is fine.
Found double Plat Hotspot in Pristine Metallic ring 2500LY from sol which I have been using for 2 weeks.

I tried in EDH3.8, logged into EDH4.0 and carried on fine, LOADS of loverly Plat.
Logged off and into EDH3.8 and still OK, back to EDH4.0 and all fine.
Don't have EDO so can't comment on mining there.

HOWEVER, the graphics in EDH4.0 are so terrible, it is unplayable (read unwatchable) to me.
The ship and asteroids are blocky and contrast is far too high, it looks like a poor 1990's video game.
Returned to EDH3.8 and back to a beautiful immersive universe, almost like actually being out there as I am used to.
Think I will be leaving EDH4.0 alone until absolutely necessary for me to move from EDH3.8 for narative/content.

I will also review EDH4.0 after I get my new 1Gb/s Full Fibre installed (on crappy 57Mb/s Sky ADSL ATM).
