Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

For lulz and fun times, try a hgh. Those are at the top of my ability and I always die and get redloyed a few times. Payouts are nice though.

Love it!
I might need to get my TK Aphelion gun upgraded for that as it's still only grade 1. That said, it still does a fair bit of damage but in the lows the enemy shields are weaker I think.

I'm heading away from the bubble exploring again now anyway, so unless the devs suddenly put some CZs in the Inner Scutum-Centaurus Arm Region I doubt I'll find any more for a while.:LOL:

Hah! Yes, it must've felt like "Independence Day" (the film) down there...

I recorded a little video of a nighttime scavenger hunt. I love this kind of mission.

Anyway, Tyres, if you go to about 4:13 you can see me using ADS with the shotgun to take out a guy at pretty long range. We were talking about how ADS works recently, so I figured I'd upload it. :)

But combat progress has the square root of bu@@er all to do with the bounty values. It is based on a weighted kill-count. The number of kills weighted by the relative rank of the kill - I don't know what the actual numbers are but the weighting can be found in this table:

I don't think I have ever got higher than Deadly in either of my accounts since I started playing in 2015 (admittedly with long breaks) - the highest ranked at the moment is Master I believe (I used to reset periodically). I certainly think it is the most awkward rank to progress in.
I understand that. Again, you're missing the point.

Every rank in this game is money based EXCEPT for combat. You wind up doing roughly 225% more work to gain a single combat rank than you do any other rank in the game.

To go from a simple Master to Deadly rank in combat will, by my estimation, take roughly 250 hours of non-stop bounty hunting. One can achieve that same rank in any other field of endeavor in the game in less than 2 to 3 hours with relative ease.

That is the point.
Not "again" - that was my first comment on these remarks of yours.

Secondly, yes I agree about the unequal progress requirement, I did say so.

Finally, the reason I posted the chart was in response to your:

In other words, you know it isn't based on bounty value but you raised the money and so I just put up the comment and chart so that anyone who didn't know would see it.
I have to thank you two (and everyone else involved in the discussion of this issue) for the discussion, as I have now understood the mechanics behind the combat rank progress.
For example, I went from Tycoon to Elite II on trade on a weekend.. anticlimactic.. haven't traded since. Mega yawn!
I think trading rank involves almost everything that earns you money. I am now at the brink of the next trading rank.
But the last time I did some real trading - buying stuff at a place and sell it somewhere else to make profit - was back in the Pilots Federation's little bubble, if I remember correctly.

Found some more of these Conchas, just a different color.

I thought this was a nice photo opp, ships a couple of kilometers away.

And some Fumarole flowers on a pretty geologically active binary ice planet.

Finaly made it to Colonia, next stage, I need to make more credit to get this bar tender, then do what it takes to unlock this new (for me) engineer, after that it's RTB to Wolf 363 and then I'll learn the ABC of Odyssey...

50 recorded jumps or <> 25,000 LY since the 04 Nov 2022, perhaps more since "The travel history may not be entirely accurate or complete, as it depends on the updates received" and I've been traveling out of charted routes most of the time... Loads of systems FSSed, surface scanned and first. Good Op so far.

Great vid. Interesting to see how we'd differ on doing the same thing :D

I'd be sniping with the long range rifle.

What suit/mods/grades are you using?

Planetary Ops T-10 looks cool. Last year i was (seriously) thinking about some heavily armored Planetary Ops ship, which role would be just to land / take you from a hostile military base. Like, those Vipers, Vultures (and an Anaconda) touring the sky, then they attack you, then turrets fire while you land in front of the base, disembark, dismiss ship, take their stuffs, recall ship and go away. So the idea is just to able to survive heavy fire for long enough time without necessarily fighting back. I made some experiments with Dropship, survivability was still a concern, i could tweak it more...

After clearing a base, their fleet looked very angry. I had my SRV with me, so thought that i better drive a couple of kms before recalling my ship. I still have have flashbacks from that trip - trying to drive under fleet fire, it's not easy to hit an SRV from a ship i assume, but rockets are quite painful. And recalling a ship just to see them all focusing their fire, then in a second or two you're kind of getting a feeling that no, too slow, risky, and dismiss again. And that until 8 kms before they given up in the end.

I understand that. Again, you're missing the point.

Combat rank wise i'd rather focus on something else if it's deemed so slow. Like bomb some scavs as it gives rank increase, but you're in fact doing Ody missions. Focusing solely on rank will just be too booring. I like to kind of remember of the goal and do what i can at an opportunity, but not focusing on it too much...

Trade rank is based on profit made from everything except combat, exploration and some passenger missions.
Combat rank is based on how many ships you kill with an adjustment based on how many ranks above or below you the target was.
All reasonable so far.
Exploration is the oddity as progression here is also based on money earned rather than directly on how much you have found.
