Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

OK, this is very odd.

So I was out in the Vulture trying it out with the fixed Plasma Accelerators and got jumped by a Federal Corvette. I was running rings around him but couldn't hit often enough to wear him down.

So I figured I'd go back to the carrier, take a couple of the fully engineered multi-cannons off my Krait Mk II, put them on it and see how that worked out.

So I get back to the carrier, store two of the multi-cannons, go back to the Vulture, and when I go to put the multi-cannons in it, it says that the modules are illegal and cannot be fitted.

I have no idea how that has happened. I figured that maybe the Krait Mk II had a bounty on it that I don't know about, so I went back to the Krait and tried to refit the guns and guess what?

I can't put them back.

So now I have two fully engineered MC's I can't put on ANYTHING.

What's more, I have looked on everything and I have no bounties listed anywhere. I can't believe this crap.

Yeah, that's weird, it's not necessarily a bounty, it could be a simple fine, also don't try this with a player with a fully upgraded Corvette, you wouldn't scratch my shield before losing half your HP, not mentioning my fighter...
From my PoV if you're after juicy targets, your best bet are the Anacondas, when you sub-target the engine, once their shiled is down, they go boom real fast, way before their HP is at zero.

Have tried it in 3.8 (Horizons)? Several Odyssey bounty issues magically disappear there.
If that doesn't help, next thing I'd try (in Horizons 3.8) would be to go to a station with an IF, transfer the guns there and check if the IF can clear them. It'll cost you an arm and a leg, but still better than having to reengineer them.

On the other hand, if you're not overly attached to having those MCs on the Vulture (size 3 MCs aren't my choice for anything due to their spin-up), get some frags (or, if you have them or the patience, Pacifiers). They only work on basically point-blank range (with no range modifers to speak of), but then again, if you can't get a(n engineered) Vulture at point-blank on basically any other ship, that's not the fault of the ship :p .

I found a planet with seven bio-signs and I found all of them, starting off with bacteria.

Osepious maybe, I don't remember how to spell it, I think it looks like a Christmas ornament.

Great pics... Made me wonder, as of Ody, we scan plants with our portable scanner. SRV scanner can scan them for Codex entries. But are we getting them in case we just use portable scanner? I. e. should SRV scanner be used everytime for a new plant? Have anyone checked that?

I did want to unlock that one engineer by getting to Dangerous level, but I've written that off.
Ah, i've missed that apparently... If so then ye, got to go through it. Lori Jameson is G5 Sensors (backed up by Hera Tani) and G5 DSS (either Colonia, either v1 DSS) + a couple of lower rank stuff. Conveniently located too.

One of the more recent additions that I use a lot is the web server now that it displays the system scan details. I have that displaying on my iPad when I am out exploring and it gives me a quick, easy way of seeing if there are terraformables to map. Really handy.
Sounds like a great idea actually. Is it done via RD? Is ED Discovery looking acceptable on 10 inch screen?

Well, the Vulture is fun, but it just doesn't have the punch of the FDL, so I went ahead and jumped back into it, bought the ship kit for it and decked it out.

I can't imagine how good this thing is maxed out. I'm only about half way engineered and it's simply off the rails good.

Clearly the right hand drive cockpit layout isn't troubling you. It bugs me, and I drive right hand drive cars.
I do love the sound of the FDL, and I suppose I could get the hang of the flight profile that punishes you in the turns if you're not in the blue zone. I still have an FDL on the carrier, but seem to like the frag Mamba better. I'll get back to the FDL again sometime and try a different weapons loadout on it.

To be fair, it does when I'm not fighting.

But once I start fighting in it, I sort of get tunnel vision. All I'm looking at are the gun sites and the enemy and trying to stay on target, so I don't really notice that it's "right hand drive" at all.

I really, really like the Vuture - the cockpit, view and handling are, in my humble opinion, the best in the game. But man, the engine sound is just awful. Only having the two large hardpoints sort of kills it as well. Even with two fully engineered MC's on it, one with corrosion, it only gets a little over 50 DPS.

It just takes too long to kill someone off.

You get used to it. Then you fully upgrade it and get used to that. Then if you're anything like me you buy another 6 so you can have a ready set of them with different weapons load outs to suit your mood.

Your comments about the Vulture and FDL are similar to what The Pilot on YouTube says about these ships.
Have you tried the "double barrel upgrade" to the Vulture, the Federal Assault Ship?
I find the positioning of the large hardpoints odd, and it's ugly. But it is otherwise very good if you put some effort into boosting shield strength.

I'm busy playing with Coriolis with an FDL load out. I need more engineering materials....

No, not yet. That's my next ship.

I have the Federal Gunship and it is just sick once you get it on target. But getting it on target is the problem. It turns like a fleet carrier. But once you get on target and let loose all 7 multi cannons, it just melts anything it hits almost instantly.

My Gunship is about half engineered and pounds out 122.7 DPS. That's actually more than my fully engineered Federal Corvette.

I don't know what "via RD" means. You just set up, inside EDDiscovery settings, to enable webserver - it uses a port number (you can change) and can be viewed via a browser on the iPad or tablet over your network. It is readable enough, you can change icon size and the touchscreen can bring up info like a mouse on the main prog. You can show different screens, I didn't use the webserver at first as it didn't have the scan graphic screen, once that was added I jumped at it.

Here is a pic showing the size I use (I have blacked out the the mess on my desk, sorry) to give you an idea...

(mucked about a bit lot so it will upload and to try to give an impression of size... that is a 2017 9.7" iPad..)

(didn't realise the iPhone pictures are so huge!)

Just noticed that a new 10.2" iPad with double the RAM costs less than my 9.7" one did in 2017. (Now I am wondering, do I actually NEED 2 iPads? ;) ).

I've got my Corvette at 127.1 DPS, buts it's real trick card is over 45 DPS of shield melting damage at 4.8km range less gimballed induce wobble cause it to miss more over about 3km range. 72 DPS from the huge MCs isn't too shabby.
Nothing beats the 141.2 DPS of the frag Mamba while the ammo lasts. It's all about the hardpoint positioning with that ship - all on top.

If I rob the Mamba of parts, I've worked out I only need to trade a handful of materials to make the FDL build I'm curious to try...

I await with interest to hear what you think of the FAS.

Yeah, you figured.

To go after heavies you need FDL, Mamba or Corvette, anything else can't trade HP with them, on the other hand, as an escort fighter, I'd take the Vulture any time...

Delivered today:
. CORSAIR RMx Series (2021) RM850x CP-9020200-NA 850 W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Power Supply.
. 2 X SAMSUNG 870 EVO Series 2.5" 2TB SATA III V-NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD).
. G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 128GB (4 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C16Q-128GTZR.
. MSI MEG X570S ACE MAX AM4 AMD X570 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard.
. Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog Flight Stick and a new TWCS THROTTLE (it works real well and I like it).

On its way out for delivery:
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3D.

Haven't ordered it yet.
1X WD Black SN850X 2TB SSD M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E Gen4 Solid State Drive.

Planned:
Pimax Crystal (pre-ordered), RX 7900 XTX both will not be available before mid Dec so I'll do with the screen and the GEFORCE GTX 1080Ti, very good card but I upgrade for 4K VR.

Now I got to bind the Warthog and see what it really feels like, but it is hyper-heavy compared to my TM 1600 and about 1/5 inc taller, also, knobs action is a lot firmer.

After that, when the CPU is delivered, I got to transfer all datas from the old to the new SSDs and build the PC starting with the PSU, my case and cooling are good for it...
That is going to be one serious rig... 128GB RAM? Wowsers.

Yeah, I couldn't find a 64 GB kit available, this works only in 4 X 1 sticks, you have Cl14 low latency, with the right timings and interleaving because they only have one bank each, with the 7 5800X 3D designed for gaming and a lot of cache it should be able to handle an RX 7900 XTX and run 4K VR without problem.

I say that but I feel like an idiot with my Motorola MOTO E3, it's way too complicated for me... 😂

Thought remote desktop from the tablet (that i meant with RD). In fact now i remember, i saw something about webserver on ED Discovery site. Looks cool anyway, could think of adopting this approach. Could even try with my phone to see how it works. Time to time i think of it, either have it running on a separate computer, either have anoither display, but always lazy to set up and try. Guess at some point Alt-Tabbing will make me do it. Thanks for info!

Aside from the price, why did you decide on the AMD GPU? I'm just curious - I'm no techy :D
