Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Spotted some bio signatures on a moon so small it isn't technically round. And indeed exerts so little gravity that the FSD crashed out about 55km altitude because it didn't slow down.

The local plants are hardy, but surprisingly decorative.

Considered taking a cutting from this one, but I'm not sure how well it would do in my ship's atmosphere. It likes a lot more CO2 than I am willing to give it.

My playstyle is not really built for efficiency.

I mean that's fair 😹

But in my experience, trying to organically figure out which engineers are where... will leave you missing more than half of them. Sometimes one leads to another, and sometimes they're hidden behind permits, so... yeah. Anyway, the guides are out there if you want them at least 😸

Found this absolutely stunning ice planet with a 100% oxygen atmosphere. Nearly passed over it because it's just bacteria down here, but I'm glad I decided to take a closer look anyway
90% of the reason I like doing Exobiology is the views I get to see. I rarely skip a planet, even if there's just 1 bio on it. I just have to go down and see what it looks like. :)
I have found the engineers section in the wiki, but as there are more engineers than my char knows of at this moment, it is quite confusing.
Inara has all the info in pretty readable format, to do with as you wish.

Here's the page for Engineer unlocks, which shows what each one needs for the initial invite, and then the unlock.

Thank you for the effort, but I fear this is not really for me.

I should mention that the ship Engineering system is intentionally designed to get players to do stuff they would not ordinarily do. The idea is that if you are introduced to these things in the game, you might find that you enjoy them after all.

Thus, in order to do Engineering, you'll find that many of the requirements have you doing stuff you've never done, or even stuff you don't want to try. It's just part of the system.

In the end it's been good for me -- I've learned a ton of stuff by doing the various engineer unlocks. But some of it has been quite frustrating at times too.

So don't get too discouraged :)

Another solid victory! Just over 2mCR for this medium one. Not bad.

And yet another CZ on the dark side of a planet.
Maybe you should join the upcoming on-foot PVP tournament for some real action!! :p

@Nekozji some excellent shots. Many of them desktop worthy with ease. Thanks for sharing those.

@CMDR TIMBERMCWOLF I never bothered with any "path" to engineers. Typically, they unlock themselves as you go. Example: Farseer revealed another one to you, that person will reveal another, etc.

The thing to do is go to your 4 panel and click on the engineers square. Any engineer you see with an envelope next to it has been revealed to you. You can click on them and it will tell you what you have left to do to unlock them. Simply see which one is easy to do and unlock them. Then they will reveal yet another engineer. Rinse, repeat.

I approached it that way with no particular engineer in mind at all. I have 17 of them unlocked.
My main issue usually is to find out which engineer does what, as the ingame information lacks a lot in this regard.
Or I missed something to click on to reveal more detailed information. 🤷‍♂️

The unlocking requirements as such are relatively straight forward to understand, some minor details excluded, but some engineers require actions that I would not consider doing elseway.

Oh, lord no! :D

1) I'm not that good
2) I've never, ever done PvP - I just don't fancy it. See 1)

You really should create an account over at INARA. It makes life in this game a great deal easier to organize.

I don't really know how anyone could properly keep track of what materials they need for the engineering projects they plan to do without Inara. It's the only Elite Dangerous 3rd party tool I support via Patreon- as of last week.

Ammonia atmosphere is terrifying though, I'm not sure I want to go back to one of those again 😰

Oxygen is amazing however, helium can be cool, and silicon/carbon dioxide tend to have a very homely feel. I don't think I've ever seen a nitrogen world, which is odd... but maybe they generate as earthlikes and waterworlds.

Joining the Viper Mk4 orbital bomber club. The convergence of those C1 hardpoints are great. Completed first power up settlement mission.

Its quite a pleasure to fly around in the planet near my home starport.

It's a fine little ship for exactly that purpose.

Although, to be fair, these days I tend to shy away from the nuke 'em from orbit tactic. Unless... the mission reward is offering stuff I really need and then I find it saves time just to turn them into 2D renditions of corpses from above.

An underated ship that I love the sound of. I'm too lazy to shoot hand guns in a game I play for the spaceships, so bombing scavs suits me.
Maybe I might get more into the FPS game play one day. I need to fight in 8 more ground CZs to make the 10 to unlock an engineer. I'll do at least that much eventually.

It was those 10 CZs that made me the gun slinging, screaming madman with the thousand yard state I am today
