What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

spent most of the day converting my zoo to the new oceania map since its the perfect size for my zoo plan as it is much smaller and my zoo goal is to have all the animals in a space of roughly 100000m

Wanted to do something special for my beloved devil today, especially given I'm gonna be away for the next 3 nights, and so I decided to try my hand at making a Tasmanian diorama. The new golden sand sedge - while actually being a coastal dune plant from NZ - reminded me quite a bit of buttongrass, and thus the environment I chose was set at the edge of a buttongrass moorland adjacent to a wet stringybark forest. It's inhabited by 3 of the 5 Tasmanian species we currently have in game (pretty awesome to think about - we still had 0 after the Australia Pack), those being the red-necked wallaby, common wombat, and of course the Tasmanian devil!

My zoo now has capybara, capuchins, black-and-white ruffed lemurs, Egyptian fruit bats, fennec foxes, and red river hogs. I'm in the process of building two large African herbivore habitats (giraffes + zebras and ostriches and white rhinos + gemsbok and dama gazelles) and then I'll probably share some pics again. I forgot how much I enjoyed building small primate habitats. Letting go of my innate desire for things to be even is a struggle with the climbing equipment (I always forget that it's designed to be random) but I do enjoy it.

After the African plains are done, I think I'll do Oceania. Wallaby + emu walkthrough, koala + exhibit house, Tasmanian devils, blue penguins, and then a kiwi house to finish it off.

OakWood Oceania welcomes a new batch of Flying Foxes that were introduced into their enclosure yesterday and are slowly warming up to it. The exhibit is now open to the public and can be found near the entrance beside our North Sulawesi Babirusas (and on the workshop)!

The renovations being made to OakWood Oceania are quite small compared to some of our larger sections like the America's. One more batch of animals however will be introduced next to our Common Wombats. This exhibit will take a bit more time to be complete, but the finished product will be worth it!

After a good bit of hair pulling i finally managed to build something larger thats worthy to be shown in here, can you spot it?
gview2.jpeg

As you might have allready seen above i build another viewing gallerie for the gorillas up on a hill, using a healthy mix of the new oceanian, african and the good old european walls for it, which while fun also was quite a pain due to a number of things.
Nr 1. Its a circular build so alligning everything to not look ass took some time, with the planters covering most of the iffy parts on the outside while the inside was aligned as smooth as butter.
Nr2. I really wasnt happy with the elevation, so i rose the whole thing by quite a bit and the terrain tools gave me a headache combined with the lag they caused
and finally Nr 3. I didnt build it high enough so that the viewing windows were actually useable in first person mode, so i had to raise the whole thing again and find ways to cover the new gabs between the ground and the pretty but quite short oceania pillars.
But after a few hours of messing around, i finally made something that im happy with and hopefully the pathing wont be anywhere close as a nightmare, eventhough i know that thats wishfull thinking.
gview.jpeg

The view from inside is pretty nice though, giving a very good angle on both the gorillas and the okapis so im more then happy with the result. Besides a second window on this side, theres also 2 on the other which so far look into the void, which will turn into an extension of my gorilla habitat. I felt sorry for them for what felt like an only okayish sized habitat eventhough it was 1000 m^2 over the requirements so i added another 1000m^2! What can go wrong?
Originally i planned on the porcupines to go there, but id really rather have a nicer living space for my gorillas as i want this zoo to feel like a nice and modern zoo and focus more on having nice habitats for few animals instead of many habitats for more animals.

While you all are expanding your oceanian areas, im back at another part of my zoo, this time from my mixed habitat for bongo, water buffallo and capybara.
What do they have in common? Idk but they look good together.
I did the first half of their habitat a few months ago with the shelter and today i finished the rest of it. I wanted to create the look of a lush river meadow and id say i succeeded!
My capybaras also can now deep dive in the new part of the river, but after putting in some underwater plants they just kind of stopped and started racing to the open habitat barrier instead with the bongos.
I also mixed in the leaf beds with the grass, to make sure my animals will actually lay down in my meadow and be their cutest self for the guests.
Sadly all those faux rock not only look great, but also give the animals some trouble to traverse, especally the water buffalos, so theres a good bit behind that hill without any of them to keep up the habitat area, eventhough im easily 1000 m^2 over what they actually need.
I also really love the lighting, as i carefully placed the trees in the background to keep the hill and the main grass bit in the foreground in the sunlight, while casting that little devide and behind the hill in shadows, which looks really great if you ask me!
Now all i gonna do is finish the barrier once i start build the beaver habitat next to it and put in a railing on the guest path to make sure that they dont fall into the water

So I still haven't actually seen the new animals in my own game but I did start work on my new zoo using the flattened heightmap Oceanian temperate map - thanks to @Birb(。・ө・。) who mentioned about this in another thread.
You are nailing the NZ vibe there my man.

Nice quokka habitat. I haven't used them, myself, but I'm slowly building up my franchise to expand to use rarer oddballs (that's my PlanZo storytelling popping up, since I can technically afford a couple)

Oh my God. How? How did you do that? It's amazing.
Didn't know that Common Wombats live on Tasmania. Might be nice to also do a Tasmania Area when I move my australian Zoo

Really nice. Is that what it looks like when the Exhibit is set to Mesh?
Might also be nice to use them as Barriers for other Animals. For Example for a Gibbon Enclosure

Yeah I’m calling it. This is probably gonna be my favourite build so far in the zoo.
😃 seriously. Did they somehow update the Graphics? Everything looks so much better than I've remembered
