What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

Inspired by 'The Raft Restaurant' in Walvis Bay Namibia, I today built 'The Plank'. Turned out better than I expected, I think I might even put it on the workshop.

I am very slowly working my way through the European pack habitat animals and just finished my build for the Eurasian Lynx.

An overview of the habitat. The climbing structure connects the "Lynx rock" on the left to the shelter area just in front of the waterfall on the right. It also provides a route for the keeper to access the entire enclosure.

The guest path contains a wooden structure that provides cover to the guests from the elements.

Finally, a top down view of the habitat and guest viewing areas. From left to right: a Lynx cave, a "Lynx rock", climbing structures, and a waterfall.

^Great pictues everyone above.

I made good progress with the Aldabra giant tortoise dome. The interior is more or less done, the outdoor habitat is almost done, too. The roof of the backstage area and the entrance area to the dome need some work, I'll show these another time.
Inside the dome I created two implied terraria for endangered reptiles and amphibians of Madagascar, the golden mantella and the yellow-headed day gecko. A third and a bit larger terrarium will be located in the small entrance area and will "show" chameleons, Madgascan spider tortoises and another day gecko species.

Just continued to work on my Giraffe House and realized that I won't need to have it look completely weird, so I removed that Half Wall Monstrosity because even though we sadly only have half Arches for 3 Sets, we got the Possibility to recolor Limestone, so now the 3 Animal Entrances look way better. I've also planned without realizing at first to keep both Bird Species in this Zoo next to each other because in Front of the Giraffe House a little Garden with Peafowl is located and I thought maybe I'll keep Giraffes and Ostriches together. Not even close yet to finishing the Exterior Design of the Giraffe House but I'm way happier with how it looks now.
Also great Job to everyone above who has posted today. It all looks really nice

I decided to finish up Antelope Hill and added a restaurant! Also another info center, merch shop, and toilet.

I wanted to go for an oasis-y vibe so I chose the North African building style. Also used a ton of new trees and I love them. The ancient olive tree is stunning, wow.

zKGidld.png

Antelope Hill seen from the side. Did a ton of rockwork too and it came out alright I think. There's a long trail all around the habitat that only the true diehards will use I think, but I put a lot of shaded cushioned benches around the trail anyway so people can take a break. Just because you are a diehard doesn't mean you have to actually die from heatstroke or overexertion. :p

I can't believe how stunning this habitat looks. I'm super proud of myself ❤️ This is the vista view from the top of the hill. Also also also, take a very good look at the animals in the habitat...!

siFFvd0.png

Visitor view, and a better view of the animals. They are GRAZING! A lot of grazing! Also, have they done adjustments to herding behavior? Because I'm seeing herds move together(!). The sable antelopes are wading through the water as a group, the wildebeest are sticking together as a group, grazing together. It feels a lot more cohesive!

Current overview. Antelope Hill is done. At most the tunnel needs some work, because I did nada in there. Oh, and I forgot education.
Tropical is basically done. Cassowary needs the additional viewing area, and the whole area could use some finishing up with foliage and rocks.
Entrance is basically done. Perhaps one or two small habitats. Meerkat and fennec fox? Yeah, that's a cool idea :) (yes, I'm making my mind up as I type)
The Land of Giants will house both elephants and the giraffe.

The path will loop from Antelope Hill down towards Tropical and Land of Giants, through the purple area (as if you couldn't guess with the huge ?).
Any suggestions what I could put there? Let me know!
Question mark area has been decided on: It'll contain a puma, African penguins, and a cold zone.

But first, I finished up the Tropical area by leading guests to the main cassowary viewing spot. On the way there, they'll pass by some kangaroos.
The Tropical area looks really nice from here :) The zoo looks so lush, and the height differences really show. You can also see Antelope Hill on the upper left.

A giant stairs leads down from the mixed antelope habitat on Antelope Hill, and goes all the way down to the kangaroos. On the way, you'll pass by the puma and African penguins.

Next to the roos I placed a small building called 'Sub Zero'. My zoo is hot and all of my guests always complain about the temperature. So I figured I'd give them a place they can cool down. The airlock entrances clearly tell the guests that inside it is COLD. I used the prefab Nordic theme because it looks great and provides a nice atmosphere.

Some nice scenery. I'll need to spruce this area up some more later. For instance, the staff area will be closed off from guests and hidden from view.

Inside Sub Zero, guests can walk around some reindeer, dall sheep, and view a couple arctic foxes while enjoying the cold. Of course, once they're inside too long they'll start complaining about being too cold, but I guess fools will be fools.
I only placed dall sheep ewes and reindeer cows, because testosterone can cause dall sheep rams and reindeer bulls to become annoying sometimes.

The sheep and reindeer can get away from guests by retreating into their little snowy ice palace.

The foxes are safe behind a low fence so people can't climb over and the sheep, in particular, won't jump over. Previously they could, and would, but I figured the foxes wouldn't appreciate it. A large assemble of rocks provides the foxes privacy, as they are shy. It's my first time using the foxes and they are tiny, but cute!

Excuse the writing, I did my best with my mouse 😅
My current plans. I already mentioned the puma and penguin habitats. Maybe the penguin habitat will be way too large, but we will see how that goes.
What I haven't mentioned so far is the fallow deer habitat, that will contain a restaurant people can go to before or after they've gone on a boat ride. The seating areas will be placed among the fallow deer. (good luck keeping your sandwiches away from them!)
At the entrance area I'll put down two little habitats for fennec foxes and meerkats. And of course the land of giants will contain the elephants and giraffes. I'll do those at the very end, because the boat ride will probably cause lagging of the zoo :)

----
"New Zealand Getaway Zoo". My main challenges will be:
  • Building elephant habitats (never built for them before) and obtaining the elephant reward (breeding both species in one zoo).
  • Building an elephant boat ride (never done a boat ride before).
  • Deciding on zoo sections and how to make use of the terrain.
    • entrance area
    • Tropical area - DONE
    • Land of giants
    • Downhill
    • Antelope Hill - DONE
  • Multiple viewing angles from all around the zoo.
  • Cool panoramashots.
  • A hilly trail that looks down over the zoo, making a beautiful view from both the top and the bottom of the zoo.

I absolutely love the Kangaroo Enclosure

It would be so nice if we would have a Shop that sells hot Chocolate. I think selling Guests Coffee should also help against the Cold😉 (but I'm not completely sure because I didn't play in a cold Climate since a long Time)

Thank you very much ❤️

More shops would be grand for sure!

I’m currently travelling and won’t get to play the game for a while. I hope I can remember how to work the controls…

I always have lots of ideas for zoos and am always making notes for possible projects. Recently I have been thinking of three different zoos:

1. a mountain zoo specialising in Nordic (hope we will get them one day) and cold climate animals in Norway.

2. a zoo in Sweden with a general collection focussing on large animals in open enclosures.

3. a smaller city zoo set in Denmark.

I couldn’t decide which to do so I thought whoever does best in the men’s Olympic handball will be the choice. Sweden were knocked out and Denmark just knocked out Norway this morning so a Danish city zoo will be my next project!

Finally I got my notes with quite detailed plans for this zoo and started work...

I feel like I've flown through a wormhole for 3 weeks. I have no idea where my "I want to play PZ on vacation" time has gone. I think I just watched too much winter sports and "the owl house" (Hooty ❤️)
I don't even know when I last posted something.

In the meantime, Asian elephants, Cougars and Binturongs have moved into Wiesenthal. I thinned out the penguin colony (same with the Flamingos). Unfortunately, my game is starting to lag, I hope I can get a grip on animal decimation.
I actually wanted to build on the city, but I'm afraid that won't work anymore.
And an albino nyala was born! This was actually my first random albino birth. I was very surprised when I packed the adult animal into the trading center.
I'll take pictures later :giggle:

Congratulations!
Also, I've never had a colony of hundreds of animals before, so I am a little fearful of what it'll do to my game 😅

Ah, I see you're a Man/Woman of Culture as well 🙃

Congratulations!

I think if you don't have much else in your Park it works relatively fine with the first few hundred but in my Research Center it started to lagg when I had too many Penguins (500 and after some Time even more). Also be aware that they should get their own Vet assigned that is always nearby. A Disease once wiped out almost my whole Penguin Colony which at that Time consisted of approximately 750 Birds
