What if CQC was incorporated into the main game instead of being a sideshow-mini game?

Picture "Galactic Gladiator Tournaments" that were hosted by different systems across the galaxy where the fiercest combat pilots engage in battle, and any other commander could view the battles from the side lines. The battles would be in actual arenas at actual locations within the main game. Instead of just logging into a fight, a combatant or a spectator would actually need to travel to the arena where the fight was being held. It could become the galactic sport. Teams would be formed. Rivalries would fester. The opposition would be worthy. AND THE CROWD GOES WILD!!! The idea seems simple enough (considering my lack of programming comprehension). Just incorporate CQC into the main game to make it more immersive, and have the different arenas belong to different systems or factions in the main game, kind of like stadiums. Maybe spectators could dock at the "spectators' stands" and cycle through combatants they wish to follow through the course of a battle on a screen. If teams are sparse, then there is always AI...

They cant even get simple mission mechanics to work right now.

So, firstly ... what stops a "spectator" deploying hardpoints and joining in? How foolproof is that?

Secondly ... the mode has trouble getting player numbers outside peak times as it is. Would this really be helped if you couldn't telepresence into the fight from anywhere but instead had to fly from system to system hoping that someone else was at that specific system?

A decent suggestion brought up many time and one I'd agree with.

I don't see why it couldn't be intergrated into a starport menu without having to intergrate the actual game into Elite. It all just instancing in the same game engine.

So, i wouldn't expect it to be too hard just to put a CQC tab in the General Services options in random stations (as with all other services), with a sub-menu for maybe your recent match scores or scores table of you and your friends and an 'Enter CQC Match' button.
(Surely it'll just be jumping from a game instance to a CQC instance and back... maybe not like dropping from super-cruise to normal space speeds but not more than jumping from Open to Solo instances)

I'm sure CQC would see more players if they could just jump in a match from within the main game. I'm sure our player faction would probably jump in for a few random battles on a whim between our hauling grinds just to break the monotony of jump 'n' dump or the smack talk kicks up.

Also, maybe look at main-game rewards for CQC ranks, achievements, faction/friends leaderboards. Probably not credits based (maybe raising problems for exploits/farming) but maybe other CQC emblem decals for main-game ships and/or fighter paint jobs, decals & mini-kits (main-game and/or CQC). Win x number of matches to unlock a weapon or engine colour for your fighter.
i.e. a Skull Emblem for getting an x number kill streak, or access to a big #1 sticker while your top of your friends leadboard

Maybe look at something like sponsor stickers on your fighter. Have an in-game brand offer a bonus, buff or reward if you have a Lakon or Zorgon sticker on your fighter for a certain number of matches or certain number if wins.

In accordace with Brett's guidelines:

I wish to signify opposition to the OP proposal.

To me, CQC is an arcade game and should be excised from E D completely.

I'd quite like a proper place to join a tournament. Not that I do PvP. Lol

But there could be various championships, like fixed ships and loadouts, and Open, so you can bring your own, or whatever.
Spectating can be done in a similar manner to multicrew. You basically opt to watch, and poof, you're there.

Or something.

I just want to see something where you can 'simulate' things in game without having to go spend your sanity grinding and engineering then find out its bugged/broken/hidden function and sucks. Why not a pvp arena. Link up with 'tele-presence' and pick a ship and loadout from stock parts, or customized for dueling someone down the street who stole your lunch money... or low temp diamonds. Hell, even have it up on Galnet for tourneys so anyone can watch on the handy dandy crotch-o-matic screen maybe.*

*not liable for crashing into suns/planets/blackholes/stations/chupacabra while watching Elite : Sparticus!
