Distant Worlds II Event What Ship are you Bringing and Why?

Signed up with my Asp X at present, although as we get nearer departure date, I'm sure I will change my mind and take my Orca :)

I've set my mind. Anaconda it is, reasons:
Many internal slots, so it can be equipped for multiple different situations at once, while still having a very high jump range, which is essential as a streamer if you want to show as many things as possible.

So now that the mining reveal for Q4 is posted, we know some more details of what to expect:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/434086-HITTING-THE-MOTHER-LODE

The proposed changes sound pretty great, BUT it also means that any ship which will wish to mine effectively on the DWE2 should have at least four hardpoints dedicated to mining weapons, plus a healthy amount of internals too. That's going to limit ship choice somewhat for anyone who wants to mine along the way.

I'm really beginning to lean towards my T10 for DWE2.....

I'll bring my "Prometheus". She's a fully engineered Anaconda with just over 70LY's jumprange, one fighter, twin SRV's, two class 6 AFMU's and 64T cargo capacity along with a decent shield gen. It's my favourite explorer ship after just passing 600KLY's since I began my ED career

My journeys so far has been twice to Colonia/SagA, one 200KLY's roundtrip to Beagle Point and my last one was a visit to the Formidine Rift and the main destination was "Livingstone Point"; the southernmost reachable points of the galaxy (at the time).
REALLY looking forward to the DW2 expedition!

So who will win the prize to report an explorakrait here? From the wiki the jump range is a bit on the low side and manoevrability is about half that of the python, however ObsidianAn’s video on the krait said it is more manoevrable. Need someone to check this out! Don’t think I’ll attempt to download 3.2 today...

I beg to differ.. ;)

And thats without Guardian FSD booster and with SLF hangar. You can do over 60ly with Krait with the right setup.

My future Krait, Circular Dependency.

51.97 full tank, 53+ on fumes (tbc).

NOT. BAD.

Looking interesting. I was going solely on the ED Wiki for the Krait mk2 which says manoeuvrability of only 3 and jump range of 8.5 ly. Expected the jump range to be engineerable, but the basic manoeuvrability seems to be only half that of the python. Oops, I’ve just rechecked the python wiki & it’s down to 2; I have 6 in my ED ship comparison sheet. Has this been nerfed? Or did I have a typo?

edit: and what’s the cockpit visibility like? Can’t imagine it’s as good as the AspX given placement between those two booms.

This is good, the Krait Mk II looks like a very reasonable explorer - good fuel scoop, jump range a little improved on the Python (which itself is respectable), good view, plenty of internal slots and the opportunity to carry an SRV without it being the crippling burden that it is for the Keelback. Hopefully the supercruise manoeuvrability is decent, I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

@Jorki - the Python's manoeuvrability was significantly reduced from its original capability, but that was ages ago. Possibly the companion sheet hasn't been updated?

Oh, Coriolis added it already? I wonder if they got the mass right. Well, a few more hours and we should see. Fun to play around with the site in the meantime.

Want to bet it'll be an exact copy of the Python's?

Yep if the stats on the coriolis site are correct I'll be using a Krait for DW2. I feel sorry for my chieftain though as I built it just for DW2 and it looks like I'll not use it now

Here's what I'm thinking: exploraKrait - Deus Ex Astra Astronomia Nova (name change due to profanity filter)

All the bells and whistles (full sized thrusters, fighters, 2x SRV, mining laser, plasma slugs, etc), and getting about 45 without the FSD booster. Pushing that up to 55 with the booster will be wonderful. I used to undersize thrusters, squeeze into a 2A power plant, and so on, with my other exploration builds. Lately, I've been willing to sacrifice a few lightyears in order to have better thruster performance, and a higher power budget on a PP that's aggressively cooled.

Not bad at all.

Hopefully the mass is right. It's on the beta version of Coriolis.
