Distant Worlds II Event What Ship are you Bringing and Why?

Is the problem of jumping with the guardian booster solved?

The boosters work fine for normal jumps now. Currently they don't work with FSD injection (jumponium) or neutron star boosting, but they've said that a fix will be coming for those soon.

I tend not to keep up with the livestreams etc. Have FD said anything about an AspX upgrade for chapter 3 or 4?
I’m sure I’ve seen some comment in one of the forum threads to that effect (and it would make sense if they go the route of survey/exploration drones in ch4 rather than upgrading the DSS since we’ll need yet another controller slot), but I can’t find that post despite several searches.

Note: the Q4 exploration video at LaveCon was entirely clear that the probe launcher functionality will be built into the DSS.
The Asp buff comment was IIRC in reply to a question on a video, but nothing else came from it so far.
Personally, I don't think it needs a buff. The Asp Scout, on the other hand...

ah thanks, as I said I dont keep up with livestreams etc & havent seen the video. Exploration drone capability built into DSS sounds good so no extra module needed. I’ll check the video!

With the new Coriolis beta, I came up with this target build:
https://s.orbis.zone/tLBNd9A7

It is by far not min-maxed, so a "time saver" in engineering terms, but very solid and versatile.
Outfitted for fleet mechanic role, aswell as for the community goal and basecamp activities.

I've not signed up yet, but if I do come along (still the plan), I'll probably take my trusty Asp Explorer. Almost all my exploration has been in this ship, and after it's latest round of engineering can now make 62Ly jumps with a full tank.

I have considered putting a Conda together for this trip, but probably won't as I don't like it.

I'm still not entirely sure I'll be able to join, as something usually gets in the way whenever I want to make a long-term commitment, not to mention I am new to the game so I can't guarantee my interest will hold that long (though, I imagine it will).

But, assuming all goes well my current plan is to fly my new Dolphin. Of course, by then I hope to have it seriously engineered.

My only concern, at the moment, is an AFMU. I can't fit it at the moment, as I need that docking computer. (My disability makes it very difficult to dock manually.) But, if docking and repairing is an option as talked about in the ideas post, that won't be an issue.

Of course, if I get more money (and possibly more ships are released), I might decide to go for something different. For example, that Krait looks very cool.

The last I heard it isn't working yet with jumponium or maybe also star boosts, but otherwise I think it is.

Fortunately there isn't really room on my Vulture for a Guardian FSD booster, so I don't have to worry about changing my loadout on it for this expedition.

I may look into it still though for my DbE, which I only use specifically for long jump range related exploration, but not general exploration, since it isn't efficient at it nor particularly fun to pilot, in my opinion.

I'm most likely taking my new Krait, Kukui Wana'an. It's got nice visibility, and gets 55.67 with my loadout (I like boost and full-sized thrusters). I always fit a cargo bay, so I won't be bringing fighters in it, treating it just as an alternative to my Asp Explorer.

That said, if Guardian Boosters aren't fixed (I'm a sucker for neutron boosting), I'll bring my trusty Asp Explorer, Strix. I've got 500 kly in it with no complaints so far.

Well I'm sticking to my initial, perhaps overly enthusiastic decision, of my Cobra Mk IV, the 'RT LMi'. The addition of the G-boosters might get it to an acceptable range for distant jumps, but that means sacrificing an internal space that I really wanted to keep for some limpet function, be it repair or fuel. The extra internals being a good reason, I thought, to go with the Mk IV. To be, like you know, helpful, I dunno.. Though, now that everyone and his/her aunt Josephine and uncle Fester has a Krait Anaconda and can carry it all, it starts to feel redundant.

Anyway as I said, I think I stay loyal to the Cobra. Maybe just tune up the speed a few notches, and it'll be fine. And I actually like the stock, dark red paint job.

Well, good point, the turtlehead-poking-out-of-the-water canopy is certainly a big drawback. :)
That's subjective and depends on your tastes though. For example, I don't really like those where it feels like you're just sitting on a balcony, but the Krait is still better than the Asp in this regard. Not by much though.
Some also like the lived-in feeling of the ship, what with the duct-taped cables and the ones ran through a hatch, but I don't. I look around and it looks like I bought a used ship, not a brand new one.
I was at first undecided whether I should change my ship on the roster here to a Krait, but after 500 or so jumps, I've decided I won't.

Ok guys, I've officially decided, I am bringing a Python. Why?

Cockpit cockpit cockpit.

I have spend the last 2 years building up to a dream gaming room: Vive and CV1, a PC and a laptop. My wife will be joining me on DW2 in my second seat, so I want it to be a good one. The Python cockpit is perfect for this. Firstly, it's luxury. Really feels like being in the front of a very good RV. Secondly, the seats are side by side so I won't feel like I am giving a taxi service. Lastly, it's dark and atmospheric. I really love the python cockpit.

Downside is no SLF. However, I think so long as I can find a good wingmate who is bringing SLF that I can use whenever I feel like, then it should be ok.

I conluded this after taking your advice on the Sudden Mystery Expedition and am still always open to advice!
