What ships do you have and why?

Corvette. A Rated except PP which is B, but engineer modded for 39Mw. As loadout only uses 80% power deployed have not seen the need to upgrade. FSD engineered for 21.37LY. Huge pulses plus various loadouts on rest dependent on activity. Frequently configure as miner with those 2 small harpoints but having read stuff on here, I might try out 2 turreted beams here and put the mining lasers on the side Class 2's. This is main ship.
FDL. A Rated fully. Awaiting engineering, but will need to do something as overheat on the 4 pulses, huge multicannon loadout. Probably need to reverse that. Used for trading systems I am in that have CZs
Clipper. A rated fully. Parked somewhere I forget, loved flying it but not the ship for what I do currently. Many ideas on here that I might try out for it.
AspX. A rated fully. Use this all the time. Ready for engineering - next target in fact.
Python. A rated where it matters, D rated everywhere else. Used as medium range haulage. Fully equipped with mines.
Courier. I used to use this for Cubeo and similar base assaults. Need to go pick it up and engineer it for speed!
Cobra III. I keep buying and selling them....currently have one. A rated fully. Configured for trade only (read equipped with mines!)
Type 6's - many of them. A rated on range and thrusters, D rated and Biweave for everything else. Predominantly bought them for pad size changes mid mission and just haven't sold any.
Viper IV - used as taxi so A rated for range and thrusters
Imperial Eagle - used as taxi so A rated for range and thrusters
Adder - used as taxi so A rated for range and thrusters
Haulers and Sidewinders - Many of them. All A rated on FSD. Taxis.

I am about to embark on a massive ship cull.
I intend to end up with the 'Vette, Python, AspX and re-purchase my sold 'Conda which will be modded for max range
Courier and Clipper are in the balance.
FDL will be kept for fun and modded.
Everything else will go - including the Cobra (shock!)

Just to expand a bit on my signature really:

Trade:
- Imp. Cutter, fully kitted out and somewhat engineered. 720 tons of cargo-space and enough defenses and weapons to easily take care of any NPC assailant.

Mission Running:
- Python with 160 tons of cargo-space. Fully kitted out and engineered. Excellent for bouncing around looking for missions that give specific materials or commodities, as it can do it all from assassinations to large haulage missions. Can land everywhere which is a big boon compared to larger ships.
- Asp, for when I need go somewhere in a hurry or it is quite far away. Only sport 64 tons of cargo space, and is well engineered.

Mining:
- Fed. Dropship with an engineered FSD to get to and from the systems with pristine rings and home base. Nothing spectacular, as it is fitted to do a boring job for when a mission or engineer demand a specific resource only obtained through shooting at space-rocks or icecubes

RES & CZ:
- Anaconda that is tricked out to the gills. I'm sure it could handle itself pretty well in PVP too, but is primarily geared towards expediting NPCs in a fast and humane manner.

PVP:
- Fed. Corvette that is easily my most expensive ship. In the process of getting it PVP ready again. Have FSD, thrusters, power-distro and power-gen engineered up. Shields and boosters are good to go as soon as I build up the will to transport it to the relevant engineer. Not decided on final weapons-loadout given the new options, so not done any engineering on them yet.
- FDL that whilst fully kitted and sports 4xImp. Hammers, is not engineered at all at the moment. Eventually though...

Just4Fun:
- Cobra because it was my first 'proper' ship and I just can't sell it.
- Imp. Courier for some zooming around and hunting in packs with near impunity.

Decommissioned:
- Imp. Clipper that used to be my 'yaaargh, gimme yer rum and cargo ye scallywag!' ship. Is now just an empty hull sitting in Founders-World.
- Fed. Assault Ship that used to be my silent-running PVP ship. Since silent running is now dead as a concept, it's stripped out and sits in Founders-World.

Primary ship - Asp Explorer - D-rated engineered FSD for exploring.

Other current ships...

Asp Explorer - A-Rated, engineered shields/shield boosters, engineered weapons for general use.
FDL - A-rated, engineered for combat.
FAS - A-rated, Powerplay augmented, engineered for combat and engineered FSD.
Python - A-rated, engineered for combat and engineered FSD.
Viper Mk 3s , Mk 4s and Cobra Mk 3s - A-rated, Unknown number - Storage for Powerplay weapons and PvP needs.
Cutter - A-rated for trading and mining - Parked/mothballed.

I've had the Type 9, Anaconda, Clipper and Corvette, Cobra Mk4, DBS, Courier and Vulture, but had no reason to keep them.
Also bought another B - rated Cutter for a specific time critical mission, but sold it after the mission was done since it was too far from home to move.

Up to +50% jump range might suggest that they *do* have something you need, but... :)

Really? I haven't touched engineers either because I don't feel the need to have so much range. It's really only useful fer making large distances easier fer the tourists who go to jacques or BG and just wanna get there quickly...aka while more or less ignoring the exploration aspect. Yer not really exploring in such cases...yer racing to a place which has already been discovered.

Can assure ye, I do just fine with just under 34ly range. Why would I need more?

FdL--golden liveried, A specced including military Grade Composite, modded to G5 in almost every way possible; this baby is my main ship and I love her dearly. We don't do anything so crass as "fight" at Res or High CZ, we make sweet sweet love. The deadly kind.

Anaconda--also golden livery, A specced and heavily armored hauler complete with Military Grade Composite, bristling with G5 mods and defensive capabilities, 23LY range fully laden w/402t. I took this big girl to Beagle Point and back early this spring, and she was set up very bare bones for that trip. Any future trips of that magnitude will feature this ship set up with this "new" configuration.

5x Asp Explorers--all set up as smugglers with A spec everything except for light 3A shielding. These are scattered around the bubble in strategic locations and I have the Horus Paint Pack for these babies.

10-12 Sidewinders

3x Cobra MKIII

2x Cobra MKIV

2X Viper

I dearly want to pick up a Cutter, but I haven't' figured out how to raise my standing with the Empire above 76% Friendly no matter how many missions I run for Empire aligned factions out of Cubeo...

Corvette - Combat and general purpose.

Anaconda - Exploration and engineering module taxi.

Python - Mission hobo ship.

Federal Eagle - Combat enthusiast ship.

Vulture - Mostly for combat.

Asp Explorer - Fully modded as a genuine all around ship capable of fighting, exploration, mission running, and general tasks.(520mps boost)

I have one of each.

Why? Um... Because I wanted one of each.

Pre 2.1 I enjoyed just flying around in what I fancied for the evening. Post 2.1, not so much :(

Python - Mixed modules, miner and planet lander for mats and small landing pads.
Conda - A +D rated unarmed tanky trader with rank 5 FSD and 49 yrs jump
Corvette - A rated and modded with most Engineer upgrades. 5 Beams, 2 C4 multicannons. 19-20ish (cant remeber) jumprange with rank 5 FSD

So a jack of all trades, a long range trader and a mean corvette.

I believe I have them all except Cobra MKIV and Corvette. But I only use some even in this list.

1. Diamondback Scout - My first ship after Sidewinder. Never gonna sell it. It is upgraded by engineers so it can do stuff :)
2. Asp Explorer - Well, for Exploring and gathering materials
3. Collection of Imperial Ships (Courier, Clipper) and Federation ships (FD, FAS, FG). Doing various testing with these. From Combat to shorter range exploration to pirating with FAS :D
4. Fer De Lance - Combat and fast mission runner
5. Python - Multipurpose and probably most used
6. Anaconda - Extremely upgraded for high jumps with decent loadout. Exploration and material gathering, etc
7. Imperial Cutter - Trading

I do have a lot of ships. Never sold any, except the T7. These are the ones I really like:

1) Cobra III
This ship is fully A rated and engineered, with rerolled mods. Clean drives and Low Emission PP, light armour and set up with scanners, scoop, hangar bay and 16 T cargo space. She is armed with MC's and one efficient Pulse laser, and can easily take out a Deadly NPC Vulture. 30 LY range with the full loadout. There's nothing she cannot do, except mine. I use her to prospect, explore, courier missions, ground ops, get materials, smuggle, -- it's a fantastic ship, and a joy to fly.

2) Python
Set up as a stripped miner at the moment, but also fully engineered and rerolled except for weapons. Used mostly as mission runner & trader. With Grade 5 Dirty Drives, it can dogfight. Very sturdy reliable ship, with a solid punch.

3) Diamondback Scout
Took off the multicannons and fitted a beam laser plus 3 Cannons. It has good range, is armoured and modded for combat. Used for RES hunting. It's a terrific dogfighter, better than the Cobra.

4) ASP E and ASP S
These are a long ways off my home system, near the edge of the bubble. Both are modded for long range travel, and fitted for combat. They have the best rolls on FSD of all the fleet. The Scout is a surprisingly good fighter. The Explorer has 6 phase sequence lasers for shield piercing action- it was an experiment.

In various states of modification I also have a little iCourier, a Vulture, and a FAS. Won't count the Sidewinders, Haulers etc scattered in the bubble.

Dropship, to do everything, because I love that heavy creaking drifter and it's got enough slots and guns to do it all. I love that ship to bits.

Cobra, because I had it before ranking up and saving for the Dropship. The little fella is an awesome multirole, got plenty of speed, and took me safely to SgrA* and back. I take it out for a ride every now and then.

AspX, because, well, I could, and I spent time to get that Alioth permit so... It's fitted for smuggling and does it well. A delight for Sothis runs. I'd probably fly it more if it wasn't that ugly. I don't think I'll ever get used to that stumpy front. I miss the FE2/FFE Asp...

Eagle, painted in bright yellow and fitted with Farseer's High-Performance Thrusters, just for racing. It's not as fast as the iEagle, but it's damn sexier. I'll take those razor-thin wing tips any day over those ridiculously oversized plastic pods.

Python, because it makes a really neat mining rig, and mining is specialised enough that reconfiguring the Dropship for it each time would be annoying (and risky, for engineered parts). That cockpit though, ugh...

Anaconda, because sometimes I just want to grind allied reputation with a faction through trade and I'd rather do less many trips. Can't say I enjoy anything else about it than the jump range and cargo capacity though. If instead of instant 3d printing of ships I could have carried the racing Eagle aboard the 'conda, I probably would have warmed up about it in a pit team role, but as it is, meh.

There's more, but well, their use is more anecdotic than anything.

Man, people are loving this thread. I'm going to have to go back through and read each post...

Eagle (Wespe) - Pursuit/Air Superiority
Eagle (Helena) - Surface Attack
Viper III - Interceptor (Currently Unused)
Cobra III - Interceptor
Cobra IV - Mission Runner/Workhorse
Cobra IV - Kinetic Tank
Cobra IV - Pirate
DBS (Corvus) - Recon
DBS (The Hound) - Surface Attack
Asp Explorer - Kinetic Tank/Exploration (Currently used only for module storage)
Python (Reconquista) - Command Ship/Mining/Transport

When we finally get some combat/military missions that call for a Dropship, I'll buy a Dropship.

The things I like.
Python: Can pretty much do everything mission wise.
Asp Explorer: Exploring, trading, mining.
Asp Scout: Use it for scouting, discovering...it's my mellow ship.
FAS: If I need to kill something, this is my go to. It's a fast response ship which works against PvE, not so much PvP.
Courier: Exactly what it says on the tin.

There are ships I use for reasons:
Hauler and Adders: Typically taxi's...and not what they are designed for.

I have other ships but I haven't given them a role yet...but i will at some point.
Clipper, Vulture, DBS & X, Viper, Eagle...
I don't own a T-6, 7, 9.
Not really interested in the bigger ships currently...they sound boring.

Sidewinder - just because
Eagle - racing
Cobra Mk 3 - Exploration
Cobra Mk 4 - Piracy
Fed Dropship - Planetary work, missions.
Fed Assault Ship - Combat Zones/RES
Fed Gunship - MURDER! SERIOUSLY, GET A GUNSHIP!!! You need a large multicanon, a medium multicanon.....
Python - Mining (soon to be retired)
(Soon to be bought) T9 - Mining

Just decided, its too boring mining in a Python, just doesn't feel right. What i want is a big fat ship to mine in. The t9 fits that bill nicely.

iCutter "Orion" - Multirange Hauler with FSDRange5 and DD3, uhm, normally without weapons, the mines are for fun only but recently NPSc got better in evading them
https://coriolis.io/outfit/imperial...f.Iw18ZZA=.CwBgjCIEyVfwuBmFkkUqIA==?bn=Trader

iClipper "Mother" - Hunter - Multipurpose, material gathering, SS investigations, special missions, bounty hunter - with FSDRange5 and DD3
https://coriolis.io/outfit/imperial...18cAMxA===.CwBhEZwJnEGYFylJczA6IA==?bn=Hunter

AspX "Last Ray" - Explorer with FSDRange5 and DD3 - 43 ly jump range, no weapons, no shields because ... fast enough to evade interdictors when coming back to the bubble
https://coriolis.io/outfit/asp/0pat...Iw18cAMJA===.CwBgjCIEybtQhBmJxQiA?bn=Explorer

2 x Cobra MK III which I can probably sell because of the new ship teleportaion feature (what a ). But I wont. Fast courier ships when the AspX is not in range, no weapons, no shields. (unbelievable for any pewpew PvP player, right?)
https://coriolis.io/outfit/cobra_mk....Iw1-ADJJA===.CwBgjCBMDMktDEmSoA==?bn=Courier

Will probably try the iCourier for the same reasons.

I only use fast ships so I can decide whether I want to fight or leave. With the DD-modded Cutter as a trader you don´t need to bother with interdictors.
Speed is the weapon of my choice. It saves a lot of fumbling with everything - energy, heat, weight, speed, manoeerability, slots
