What species are missing for you to complete your local zoo?

Man, I really hoped for a long term we could get perches as enrichment items. It’s the easiest way to get any form of “flying birds” without anything absolutely crazy.

But not getting any new enrichment items in awhile doesn’t help.

Though now that I think about it, say Frontier makes enrichment items for some birds only. Chances are they wouldn’t have to update a bunch of other animals, only the new ones. I can get not getting new enrichment items, adding one item may mean 50+ animals need new animations.

But if we get new birds? It’s not like there are a ton of birds that need updating, in fact only two birds in game could use a perch. That being the peafowl and the chicken.
I agree, if the next pack introduces some new animals that conflate similarly to older ones, the free update should cover it. For instance, if i were to introduce the Gerenuk, it'd be able to use the Giraffe's feeding Enrichment, but so would the elephants, long necked camelids, Okapi and maybe the Kangaroo

Im pretty sure that the giraffe feeder is way to tall for all of them, elephant aside

I don't mean the food cage, i mean the big wooden Enrichment that only the Giraffe can use. The kangaroo and Alpaca may be streches but the others more than qualify

Edit: Forgot my dear SA coati, ops.

For those wondering this is roughly 40% of all the zoo animals, the other 40% are flying birds and artropods (With none being ingame) and the rest 20% is animals ingame, you will have similar numbers in any Brazilian zoo.
So Frontier, give us more South American animals and flying birds, please.

Wow, that's a lot. How big is this place?

To recreate the feel (the exact species doesn't always matter too much) of most zoos I've attended on the US East Coast, I still need the following animals. Almost any zoo of mine that is large enough and doesn't have a weird theme would need something from every one of these categories. This is what I really hope for in DLCs.
  1. Parrots:
    • Macaws and budgies are the ones I see most often
    • African grey parrots, cockatoo(s), and lorikeet(s) are also pretty basic. Conures, parakeets, and other parrots would be welcome, too.
  2. Raptors:
    • Bald eagles are the most iconic ones, but my local zoos often feature other local species, such as red-tailed hawks, great horned owls, screech owls, barn owls, barred owls, and peregrine falcons.
    • The popular Eurasian eagle owl and snowy owl could cover the owl nich pretty well even if they don't match the species I typically see exactly, but burrowing and barn owls would be great if possible.
    • After the bald eagle, there are other eagles that would be nice, but I don't see them nearly as often.
    • Vultures and condors are cool, and the Andean condor plus a big one for Africa like the Ruppel's griffon vulture would cover that niche pretty well for me. I don't see vultures in every zoo, but they're a niche worth considering if possible.
  3. Tiny Monkeys:
    • Tamarins and marmosets are extremely common in my local zoos, but they are completely absent in PZ. The golden lion tamarin is popular, common, and a favorite of mine, but I've also seen common marmosets, cotton-top tamarins, and emperor tamarins quite frequently.
    • Squirrel monkeys are also tiny and pretty common. They'd be way better than no tiny monkeys at all.
  4. Waterfowl:
    • I doubt we'd ever get enough ducks to cover what's needed, but at least one base for a mod is crucial. I think the mallard, Mandarin, white-faced whistling duck, and probably a black swan would round out PZ's waterfowl roster to a 'good enough' point for most of my recreations. I would still probably want duck mods, especially for wood and Muscovy ducks, but those 3-4 would be pretty good. A goose might be important for modders, but I don't see them so often that I'd notice their absence much.
  5. Local (Shennahdoah/Smoky Mountains) Wildlife:
    • American black bears are my favorite local species. They feature in many viral videos, are common in smaller zoos, and are often a centerpiece for wildlife-focused facilities. The beaver, fox, raccoon, and skunk are good for wildlife centers, but they aren't the big stars. I need black bears, birds, and probably white-tailed deer for wildlife center builds to not seem strange. I can sub in the lynx and ASCO for the bobcat and NARO, which are both extremely common.
    • It's weird that we don't have any native birds in PZ. I most often see waterfowl and raptors, but an endemic turkey, crane, heron, etc. would also go a long way.
    • I will keep dreaming of getting or perhaps installing mods for the bighorn sheep, wapiti, black-footed ferrets, mountain goats, porcupines, grey foxes, bobcats, coyotes, fisher, corn snakes, milk snakes, box tortoises, sliders, and others, but I don't need or expect them in the same way.
  6. Other Flying Birds:
    • Kookaburras, toucans, and hornbills are also kind of essential.
    • Corvids, passerines, my favorite hoatzins, and others would be welcome, but they're just gravy compared to the top-tier birds.
  7. Iconic South American Monkey(s):
    • The lone capuchin doesn't cut it for my medium-large South American monkeys. I'd love a spider monkey and a howler monkey. South American monkeys are extremely common in my zoos, and many zoos I've attended have more than one species. These are popular and iconic.
    • If we have room for even more, sakis and tufted capuchins are also very common in zoos I've attended.
  8. South American Wetlands Mixed-Species Bird(s):
    • The roseate spoonbill and/or scarlet ibis would be great to pair with my WFWDs. I want to build indoor 'Amazon' wetlands habitats. I see them in such buildings or aviaries all the time.
    • I also see American flamingos frequently. Currasows and jabirus, in my experience, are rare to nonexistent, but they could be cool, too.
  9. African Wetlands Mixed-Species Bird(s):
    • The grey-crowned crane is the biggest one for me, but great white pelicans also seem important. They could have fun combos with WFWDs and flamingos.
    • Storks, guineafowl, and ground hornbills are also cool if there is extra space.
  10. Non-primate South American Arboreals:
    • My South American sections are lacking climbing critters. Coatis are very common and popular. I've also seen ocelots, porcupines, and tamanduas around. The ocelot is one of the last two essential cats for me, and the other two are very cool.
  11. Fish:
    • The only fish featured heavily in zoos near me are koi. They decorate many habitats. I miss them in my waterways. I'd be pretty happy with just this fish.
    • I also see the Amazon river giants, arapaima, pacu, catfish, and arowana, somewhat often. If we get more fish, they're at the top of my list.
  12. Iconic African Monkey(s):
    • The popular and gorgeous guereza has turned up in several zoos I've attended. De brazza's guenons are about as common in my local zoos, and I've also seen Wolf's guenons, vervet monkeys, patas monkeys, Schmidt's red-tailed monkeys, Diana monkeys, and Allen's swamp monkeys. I'm flexible about the exact species, but at least one or two is needed for many recreations. We don't have anything for a medium-sized, African, and 'tailed' monkey right now which is very prevalent in zoos I've attended.
  13. Personal Favorites:
    • Servals are very common in zoos near me, and they're one of my favorites. I feel their absence strongly.
    • Tree kangaroos are quite rare in zoos near me, but they were so cool when I saw them, that I also feel their absence strongly.
    • With the current size of exhibits, I don't need that many more to build a reptile house, but chameleons and emerald tree boas are favorites of mine that I've seen around and miss often.
  14. Aquatic Habitat Turtle(s):
    • I've seen many outdoor turtle ponds or turtles in large indoor spaces with wetlands birds. I want at least one for PZ, and the Arrau turtle and painted terrapin both seem good.
There are also some niche needs that don't necessarily come up in every zoo, but they seem important. I don't need these as much personally, but there is some important stuff here that I wanted to mention while talking about the others above. The first two groupings are decently common in zoos near me, but I moved them down because their absence doesn't stick out quite as much. I find them comparably important to the tier above. Maybe they exist on a middle tier?
  1. Patagonian Representation:
    • I don't often see nontropical South America as its own section, but I've definitely seen rheas and especially maras around. They are critical regional picks.
  2. East Asian mixed species habitat stuff:
    • Muntjacs and especially pheasants are pretty common in zoos near me. The pheasants are often in aviaries.
  3. Coastal Pack:
    • The animals I want here, walrus, sea otter, sea turtle, manatee, etc., are super rare in zoos near me, but I still want them and would use them sometimes.
  4. Super-Popular Icons/ABC Animals/Stars:
    • Musk ox, honey badger, jackals, and secretary birds are rare to nonexistent near me, but they have a strong enough media presence.
    • Nile crocs, kudu, elands, lowland tapirs, and Watusi cattle are a bit more common, but I can sort of sub for them.
  5. Indian Representation:
    • I've occasionally seen fishing cats, cobras, and blackbucks.
    • Another ungulate and at least one monkey is also important, but I don't often see them.
  6. Other People’s (very high player count) Regional Bias Touch-Ups:
    • East Asia: There are so many players from this region that I think it should get more attention. Notable animals include the GSNM, Pere David’s deer, Chinese alligator, raccoon dog, yellow-throated marten, and Japanese serow. I'd like them, but they aren't common in zoos near me.
    • Europe: They've gotten so much attention recently that I want to wait a bit before getting more mammals from here. Critters seem to be the priority, and perhaps a large carnivore, probably the brown bear. The Barbary macaque seems important for Europe but less so next to the other monkey needs. I hope we get it along with the others. For the smaller mammal slot(s), I'm really not sure what would be best. EROs and marmots seem popular. Marten and rabbit rigs would be useful. Wild cats are mentioned sometimes. I've included the mallard and pelican elsewhere, but there are other decent habitat bird options if we get a lot of support. None are common among zoos I've attended.
  7. Cool Stuff From Australia:
    • Echidnas and monitors seem important. I'd also like bilbys, possums, rock wallabies, and maybe more. I might have seen the monitors more, but I don't see the others often.
  8. Exhibit Roundup:
    • The exhibits are so big that I can create a large reptile house without them, but pythons, geckos, bearded dragons, local snakes, and medium tortoises (if not in habitas) are kind of basic.

Sorry if I forgot anything. I might edit this later.

I'm gonna do the Fort Worth Zoo now since it's my favorite zoo in Texas even though it's like 4 hours away from me, it has a lot more species native to the Americas than the Houston Zoo, it's massive compared to the Houston even though the Houston Zoo itself is pretty dang big, its bird collection is massive, and its reptile collection is decently sized. I also didn't even bother including the fish which they have a small but decent collection of since fish aren't a group in Planet Zoo at all.

There's also an actual Dallas Zoo as well as the Fort Worth Zoo but I've never been to that one and I'm trying to only do zoos I've actual been to for now.

While we're at it let's have some fun and do the Dallas World Aquarium (excluding the fish) which I have been to and will be a lot of fun to do because it's basically an indoor rainforest with mostly birds, monkeys, and some reptiles besides the fish, so it will really show how much missing animals there are from Planet Zoo since it's basically impossible to build this place in Planet Zoo even if I exclude the fish unless I use mods:

Mammals
Matschie's Tree Kangaroo
Howler Monkey (They don't specify which species but it's solid red.)
Pygmy Marmoset
Pale-faced Saki
Golden-handed Tamarin

Giant Anteater
Emperor Tamarin
Golden-headed Lion Tamarin
Vampire Bat

Giant Otter
Two-toed Sloth
Golden Lion Tamarin
Mantatee
Desert Cottontail (Rabbit)
Ocelot
Bearded Saki
Leaf-nosed Bat

Birds
It's kind of easier here to list what they do have that is in Planet Zoo than what birds aren't in Planet Zoo because their bird collection is absolutely massive and almost all
of them are flying birds:
-African Penguin (Although the Aquarium uses the name "Black-footed Penguin" for them but I looked it up and it's the same species).
-Little Penguin
-Flamingo (Species Not Specified)

The field guide is here if you want to see all the birds they do have:
