Why is console still being ignored

probably waiting for doctor who trinary data compression tech to be developed:ROFLMAO:
but imo ferengi rule of aquisition 39 Don't tell customers more than they need to know🤷‍♂️
put an apple on a stick in front of a donkey and you have one interested donkey👌
especially when said donkey can see happily grazing donkeys over the fence munching fallen apples in the orchid
given time said donkey will make a leap and past teases quickly forgotten;)
(nothing wrong with it it's shrewd ferengi business tactics 101 imo they are running a business you know!, they are not being dishonest just shrewd in withholding certain information)

this is of course just cat out of the bag CONjecture on my part................

All things considered, especially with the good Doctors insight, and especially that during the promotion of EDO, FD had aligned always to port to console, economically it was illogical not to, given that it represented 30% of the audience base.

But it’s evident that EDOs poor performance was likely a total surprise to FD, this is evident given the uproar at the time from players with experience in coding who openly highlighted its poor code. FD therefore made an economical decision, because to optimise ED for console was not fiscally efficient.

They did this with Mac long ago. They dropped it because it was not economical not because it was impossible.

This is an odd concept for consumers to accept. But companies have overheads and investors who will jump ship if they don’t turn a profit. And if such a title were to underperform, it could have very negative impact on the title. It sometimes is more economically sound to cut your losses than to paddle upstream.

One could speculate ED was in a long hiatus prior to this, there were source that identified it was in a maintenance mode. Again this could hypothetically bolster FD economical decisions.

Console sadly was totally dropped, this is certainly a dead parrot. FD have been very clear on this…

FD have kept legacy running because it works, even on sale it will make a turnover, and console players still buy arx and skins (not me)… so it turns a profit, it’s not economical to totally drop it.

4.0 is technically EDO, it’s the same codebase, but without the poor coding that enables legs, it is not just a graphics update.

I asked at the time about why 4.0 was not likewise to be optimised from last gen PCs, as back then my old PC had higher RAM than a console, and FD Support simply stated because 4.0 required more RAM it’s new code.

Arthur the Community Manager had publicly stated that FD had essentially built a whole new game. 4.0 is not ED with an upgrade, it’s a total new codebase.

FD to make 4.0 work on console would have to build a whole new game. ED Legacy works, it’s just economics.

sorry (dr kay) for being cynical you never publicly tread on the toes of a previous employer it dont look good on a cv;)
it was never gona fit imo and it never did not with out a complete rewrite of the cobra game development engine itself and a new game written from scratch
then yea possibly
one thing we can agree on the parrot is in fact dead (though one could argue it was never alive in the first place:ROFLMAO:)

It's Schrodinger's Parrot. Except we can shake the box and hear a dead weight shuffling around but there are still people convinced if the box is opened a colorful bird will fly out. 😁

It is not even that. It is literally the dead parrot sketch - you can plainly see that it is a dead, stuffed bird, nailed on the perch, but the clerk will keep arguing how it's alive and kicking.

I don't normally engage with a post about the cessation of development of the console as it can get quite colourful very quickly.
However I would like to point to a comment made on twitter by Dr Kay on her experience of fdev's work on the console version of odyssey;

Not to mention the game description on the Xbox store is a blatant lie

Yeap, i know about that post.
Maybe they reached the conclusion that it cant be optimized - and certainly without spending money they could not afford to spend or they could not recoup in whatever shelf life ED has?

After all, it's simple: how much does it cost to optimize the game to run on console? how much we gain from consoles?
If they dont get enough then they wont do it.
FDev is not a charity
