WHY!?

Elite "children's birthday party" or "dangerous"?

Elite "What do i want to do today? Kill thargoids? PvP? Mining? Exploration?"

If you choose kill Thargoids, it means you didn't choose PvP and are not flying a ship kitted for PvP, you're flying a ship for killing Thargoids.

How about we turn this around?

Elite "childrens party", by flying a PvP ship against people not kitted for PvP or "dangerous" by seeking PvP against others seeking PvP in PvP kitted ships?

The biggest easy mode players in this game are gankers in their PvP meta ships killing those flying different builds.

Bunch of wusses.

I reiterate a question. Has no one considered simply roleplaying around it, treating gankers like some psychotic, mind-controlled thargoid puppets?
Sounds to me like a perfect emergent gameplay opportunity, with the right mindset.
Why on earth go solo and give some jackass satisfaction?
Use imagination, play in the open, organize militia groups for such runs and treat them as part of the narrative till they get bored or get their ass handed to them.
South Park World of Warcraft Elite Dangerous Edition.
The short answer is that it is best to ignore that type. It's easier to change mode or block them and forget about them.
Besides why would or should we spend our time trying to get rid of people that are no fun to be around by wasting even more of our time playing with them? If you block them or change mode, they stop being your problem. They stop being a waste of your time, and do so pretty much immediately without extra work that may or may not even be effective. If they were fun to be around and play with, we already would be.
Meh, you ignore them when you can, and scorn them when you can't. We just don't want to play with them.

Let's not turn this into yet another discussion on the benefit/disadvantage of one mode over another. There's a whole thread for that. If you want to discuss that, go there!

Never fly in Open. Too many jerks in this small community.
This basically. I just quietly slip in in solo/pg on my cold and fast Clipper, maybe chuckle at system chat, then drop my torpedoes and AX missiles on the Titan and quietly slip away again. Ideally I haven't been shot at by anyone, not players for sure and not by Thargoids either, as I'm basically a ghost to them at 17% heat.

The bottom line to all of these arguments, ladies and gentlemen, one entirely free of individual opinions and preferences and rooted in logic, inference and reasoning is this:

There exists no way whatsoever to separate a category of players we refer to as gankers, without that category instantly stretching into infinity until every player who happens to shoot another player for any number of reasons can automatically become part of said category in someone's mind and get blocked, reported for harassement or disconnected on, just the same as one cannot prevent bullying by banning or enforcing use of words.

Only two reasonable and sustainable solutions remain:
a. if you don't like the risk of being attacked, play Moebius or play offline
b. if you can accept that risk, go Open, but do not label other players as gankers, block them, combat log or complain about them. It's just part of the planned dynamics of an online game from the get go.

a) There is no offline game mode.
b) Players who like to use one feature of Open are not in a position to dictate to players they like to shoot at with regard to use of other features of Open, i.e. Menu Exit or the block feature - noting that all three of these features have been part of the Open experience from the beginning.

Each player chooses how they play - they are not in control of how others perceive their chosen gameplay, nor how those others choose to react to it - nor are they in a position to create out of game rules that they expect other players to abide by.

Easy to say that when your ship is optimized for what you want to do.

Cluck-cluck-cluck.
A part of that problem is squarely the fault of FDEV though. Yes, gankers have optimized burst damage murderboats. BUT: AX pilots usually have very decent defense and good module protection as well. Again BUT: FDEV have for one reason or another decided that AX weapons are only effective against Thargoids, but not against human ships. We would have a very different scenario if shards were as good as frags and gauss were as good as rails against human ships. Assuming that AX pilots usually outnumber gankers at Titans in open, ganking attempts could end pretty badly for the attacker.

Highwake in Titan space ? Where you are masslocked until you clear the cloud ? Please think before you post.
by thargoid space you mean in the maelstrom/at the titan right? if you want correct me with spite on your lips do it at least correctly :p
and i apologise, i forgot we are all talking about one exact situation this whole thread.
anyway
you say you arent specialised for cobat so what are you doing at the titan?
rhetorical question ;)

Why are there Commanders in HIP 20567 (In Titan Indra's system) blowing our ships up? I just had time to go in and get some missiles off at Indra this evening but was attacked and destroyed by a fellow commander!? It's not unusual anywhere else but here? I'm logging off for the night already! I guess I've never met a Goid lover before..
Have you heard of the Far God cult?

Oh absoloutely. But that is what we are faced with. Telling people to be prepared for PvP when going to kill Thargoids is completely stupid, since they need anti-Thargoid weapons.

And I have gone on and on in the past about all the additional defensive modules has turned PvP into a horrible slugfest due to hitpoint inflation. PvP was at its best way back in 1.X, when a decent pilot in a Viper or Cobra could wreck a lesser pilot flying a bigger ship, but now you'd have to be amazing or your opponent really rubbish to do anything more than scratch the shields or hull on a bigger ship with a Viper. This affected PvE as well, with the HP inflation on CZ ships, especially high CZ, tunring them into less about skill and more about persistence. I used to enjoy going into CZs in small ships as well, but they just don't have the pewpew.

what kind of ship isnt specialised for high wake?

Ah, so basically the only option is to run, and come back, and run again if attacked, and come back, and run again if attacked.... and that's meant to be fun gameplay?

Mods have already said don't turn this into a mode thread, but i think you see the logical conclusion here if your only option otherwise is to keep running, preventing you from actually doing what you want to do, in this case, killing Thargoids.
