Will there be additional bug fix patches between update 5 and console release?

We've yet to get an answer to this question. Their silence is probably the answer.
They did, in the development post.

As mentioned in our previous post, our aim was to focus on the initial set of updates and then turn our attention back onto console. There’s no doubt that the additional development work on these updates and community requests pose a challenge on our previous plans and timelines. We are actively investigating, reviewing, and remeasuring the further roadmap but these things will take a little time. We understand that this may not be as much information as people may have wished for, but we hope that the open and transparent nature of this update means that you’ll bear with us while we pull those together. What we can say, is that through these monthly updates, we will be able to share and keep you informed every step of the way.
There apparently is a road map, but they have to do all kinds of complicated multiple-syllable-word things with it first. And they'll gladly be open and transparant about it once a month.

I'll be off then.

Don't get me wrong, I think and believe they know they really need to tackle the issues (e.g. support missions).
And they know it. And they will.
In which time frames 🤷‍♂️ 🥴 😬
Would really be so good to have a CM jumping in here and give players some confidence.
Fwiw, just picked up to reactivation missions. Maybe they are more plentiful now?

yeah, not looking good, perhaps there will be news tomorrrow

Excuse me if I don't sound elated at more Frontier "possibilities".

They did, in the development post.

If their last two roadmaps are any indications of future roadmaps, I think I'll settle for reading off a CVS receipt. At least those things are long and have depth. Can't wait to hear more about the synergies of the pathways which will invigorate the blugleflorp of coming esthetically profound engine mechanicals that will in turn proliferate sizeable transformations within deez nuts.

is everyone a little tired of hidden roadmaps and empty promises?

Just like my estranged father. Yes I'm tired of the excuses. Just love me da... Frontier!

Without fixes the on-foot missions are basically a no-go for me since update 5. Between the frame-rate collapse at some settlements, POI not spawning or conditions not updating it is Russian roulette if you are going to take a mission you'll then have to abandon. If you are working it for BGS rather than just giggles, this is a pretty undesirable use of time. It appears so far that Horizons style missions all basically work and foot CZ's have been rather solid so I'm just going to have to ignore the other on-foot Odyssey content until this is addressed. I certainly hope that is not 'at console release'.

One thing that remains unclear for me after the Development Update and today's Update 5 is whether we'll see more patches in the coming weeks or whether this is it until console release.

I'm trying to interpret the Development Update and Update 5 notes correctly but instead of guessing I'd rather just ask.

There's lots of bug fixing still to do. Will we see this happening in the coming weeks/months or are we facing a dry spell while we wait for console release?

For reference some things that confused me:
  • Arthur mentioned during Tuesday's stream: "Update 5 is the last update for Odyssey".
  • The Development Update, amongst sharing the top 5 issues mentions: "As mentioned in our previous post, our aim was to focus on the initial set of updates and then turn our attention back onto console. There’s no doubt that the additional development work on these updates and community requests pose a challenge on our previous plans and timelines. A lot of people I'm talking to are saying: "So this is it now until console release? No further fixes until then?" but personally I can't imagine this is the case.

I think we maybe should interpret the messages as though they do plan to continue bringing out updates between now and console release. I'd rather not guess though.

Some open issues:
I would love to know what the community at large thinks. This might simply be a misinterpreration from yours truly though it would be awesome if we could get a CM to confirm what we can expect in the coming weeks and months.

Heya BM, hope you're doing good.

Really appreciate this thread and although we can't always provide solid dates, deadlines and specifics on immediate further updates right now, due to ongoing internal conversations, we do want to keep reassuring you all that we are aware of the remaining issues and they won't just get thrown to the waste side willy-nilly.
I for one with the rest of the CMs will continue to forrage feedback and check issues in the tracker whilst keeping as strong a bond as possible with you all, because it's so flipping valuable that our next steps are the right ones.

"We are actively investigating, reviewing, and remeasuring the further roadmap but these things will take a little time." - This line you quoted still totally stands, basically. Really will update you all as soon as we get the green light to do so on that news :)

Sally I know you're some kind of forum superwoman but this might be a little hard if there are no improvements to gameplay until console launch.

There appear to be so many things broken that I as a player would class as critical to fix it essentially stops a lot of us playing Odyssey until console launch. I hopped back into Horizons last night for a bit and it just 'felt' so much better.
We see a long long road ahead before we all get that feeling with Odyssey, I know you know this and it's sad. I know you can't do anything about this over what you are already doing so you have our support.

But if we are being asked to wait until console launch before any fix for these multitude of problems are coming I really fear for this community and also your good attempts to stay connected to us on a good basis. (I don't doubt your willingness to try)

Kind regards.

Nono, I totally know this but I can't confirm anything solidly until decisions are made on all sides :)
Like, I know you want the right answer but if I can't give it yet then sadly I can't give it. I can carry on building cases and supporting the teams to drive the right decisions but I can't just hand out the answer you want until things are solidly planned :)

Ok I think I hear what you are saying and that fills me with a little more hope.. Thank you for being so amazing and engaging daily with us. I know you are the most active but thanks to the rest of the team too.

hey sally,

maybe we can get some sort on info on the road map that has been on the table. i think it just produces unneeded fuzz and frustration when something "that important" at least for us players - as we are always eager to know what we can look forward to - gets announced first and afterwards there is no single word on it anymore. i personally don't have so many issues (lucky me:p) with odyssey per se in regards to performance or bugs but looking forward to good additions is always half the game :p
it is understandable that it gets delayed when a lot of moving parts need to be checked first but it would come a long way just to know we can still look forward to it somewhat soon

great weekend o7

edit just read that the original announcement on it still stands in one of your posts, my bad :) still what i was trying to say is that often something of that sort of importance to your playerbase even just as an update as news for everyone to see and not burried in a thread just makes it feel right - as i was asking me daily: did they forget that they wanted to share a longer term roadmap, i mean i know it's no very likely but it just feels a little like this :)

Clearly they need a roadmap that will cover not a few weeks but the next three months.
I fear there are serious issues with Frontiers company structure which ultimately create what we have recently experienced.
Unfortunately these problems are deeply rooted in their system and I fear as many others do that this is pretty much the end of the development on Elite Dangerous.
The obsession with console release has totally fractured the staff and customers and my feeling is when they make that last money grab from consoles, development will slide to a trickle.

If I worked for this company I would be asking serious questions about the working practices and lay off being disgruntled with your customers.
At the end of the day someone is calling the shots at Frontier and they are responsible for this mess and if you work there you probably know exactly who they are.

Playful tone
I'm gunna give a prize to any Commander who can quote me for the 6th time on what my answer might be to this, after all of my other replies of the same type today :') You folks are really loving sending me this one today!

I genuinely do feel terrible that it has to sound like such a canned response...but I really can't answer that kind of question casually in a forum thread response. It would never, ever be delivered to you that way - ever ever.
When we can (and trust me...it will be one of the greatest moments of my life too) share that kind of information, it'll be done so in a proper update.

Can I have the prize anyway, cuz I'm too lazy to think of what your answer may be?

Slightly more serious: I thenk many of us appreciate the light-hearted delivery - keep it up - thanks!

Rat Catcher I love seeing you about so much, so you absolutely can have a prize.
Have a lovely weekend, i gift it to you. It's yours o7
