Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

Ugh it just had to be monday...
I will be gone all day, I have to go with my mother like hours away for medical purposes
She was getting routine shots, and the nurse put it in her SHOULDER JOINT, so now my mom might lose use of her left arm
That sounds tough. I'm sorry about that. Take care of her, it's your responsibility.
I can understand you, though. My dad is sick, so we're having to take care of him

I am going to speculate a bit:

Discover and a Sun emoji. My first thought when putting those two words together is Antarctica. Both apply well, especially during winter in the Northern Hemisphere.

My second thought was Patagonia. Long Days this time of year. Popular with adventurous folk. The building in the gift shop photo is similar to Argentine architecture.

Third was Central America. Again, architecture could apply and in Panama, the forest is so dense, there is supposedly no highway between Panama and Colombia. So, Discover would apply. A Walk-through Humming Bird exhibit would be an amazing addition.

Ngl the last place id think of regarding a sun emoji is antarctica :D

well it is about to be summer over antartica and the sun doesnt set then but honestly I think it wont be anywhere near the tundra due to the sun motif and the fact that the gift shop image could from a new scenario that doesnt look like its set in the cold since I find it unlikely that they built that much for just a single disjointed promo image.

what I think the sun could mean
  • desert
  • savannah
  • most arid stuff in general
  • the poles mainly antartica because of the huge fluctuations in the sun
  • islands

what I think it means its not
  • anything underwater or aquatic themed
  • forests
  • nocturnal theming
  • mountains or highlands
  • tundra not polar focused
  • taiga
  • eurasia
  • asia

might be if sun isnt taken literally but just as a symbol of not cold
- anything tropical so amazon or central america since even though they are hot they arent bright

my biggest hypothesis right now is a safari pack because secretary bird is currently number 1 its been warm weather all year and discover as a theme fits better with a safari

Im not even sure if the sun emoji is even related to the dlc at all honestly.
But im kinda hoping it is a safari pack, probably what id like to see the most right now

maybe not the emoji itself but I see no reason for both the gift shop post and the reply they made to it to mention the sun if it is not at all relevant.
It is winter in europe and the north hemisphere so the wrong season to be talking about sun leading me to believe they are just using as a soft redirect away from cold climate pack speculation.

Here are some of my guesses on what animals could be included because I'm bored lol.

  1. Spectacled Bear (#9 on the 2023 META List + easy to make "clone" + I think this guy is the big stuffed animal hiding in the window of the Gift Shop screen shot + SA Only Bear + A Highland Animal)
  2. Greater Rhea (#20 on the 2023 META List + easy to make "clone" + it's a bird + completes the Ratite family (not counting other subspecies}) or Andean Flamingo (easy to make "clone" + it's a bird)
  3. South American Coati (#1 on the 2023 META List)
  4. Vicuña ~or~ Guanaco (Both are easy to make "clones" + Highland Animals)
  5. Pudu (Kind of an oddball pick + we need a smaller deer species and this guy would fill the slot nicely)
  6. Andean Mountain Cat (easy to make "clone" of the Sand Cat)
  7. Black Howler Monkey (#9 on the 2023 META List + New World Monkey)
  8. Macaws [WE] (Just wishful thinking lol)
  1. Spectacled Bear (#9 on the 2023 META List + easy to make "clone" + I think this guy is the big stuffed animal hiding in the window of the Gift Shop screen shot + SA Only Bear + A Highland Animal)
  2. Pallas's Cat (Had a good amount of votes on the 2023 META List + easy to make "clone")
  3. Markhor (#11 on the 2023 META List + was in Zoo Tycoon)
  4. Takin (#6 on the 2023 META List)
  5. Vicuña ~or~ Guanaco (Both are easy to make "clones" + South American Animals)
  6. Wolverine (#6 on the 2023 META List)
  7. Alpine Marmot
  8. ??
I may be back with more ha ha

This is one of only 3 themes that would actually excite me so I really hope that it is.

discover just means so it could be almost anything
  • it could be exploration style similar to tropical hinting at a biome pack or maybe a region like the amazon.
  • they could also do it documentary or research style where we are looking at camera traps or snippets of footage

it is an extremely broad statement that could mean anything I think it is almost guaranteed to be a warmer pack based on the comment made in the replies to the gift shop teaser emphasising the sun as well as the post itself.
I'd honestly love if they did a night time camera trap style thing where one of the new animals legs like walks past it.

I'm starting to stray away from the cold pack idea a bit just from those sun empjis alone. But generally, I feel like this pack will be something that we're not expecting.

Why is everyone forgetting the 40something species of tinamou when talking about "completing the ratites"? The poor guys

As I understand it they're a very close family branch to ratites.

This is on Wikipedia, and what ive seen elsewhere aswell. Idk there are probably also different family trees by different studies

They are not true ratites just part of the same infraclass paleognathae unlike the others in the class the tinamou's still have a keel and can fly. They do meet the rest of the criteria for that class and are more related to the oceanian ratites ie. cassowaries kiwis and emus then the oceanian raties are to the rheas and ostriches.
They are basically ratites that kept the ability to fly which each ratite group seems to have independently lost.

To be clear ratite is not a cladistic or taxonomic group it is a polyphyletic grouping meaning it includes members of different evolutionary branches but not all based on some criteria in this case being flightless and without a keel

Which makes the term ratites pretty much as useless as "spotted cat" then for grouping animals
