Winter DLC Speculation

it is he.

I decree this must be the new meme image we use whenever we want to ask frontier for things

Just chiming in, when did we shift so strongly from birds to a mountain pack

Let me open two new more bird-friendly dlc concpets: a tropical pack and a coastal/islands pack.

Both would work really well giving us birds and filling out Oceania/South America.
Personally, because birds were always just an immediate assumption based on the bats reveal, now that some time has passed there's not really enough (or even any) evidence supporting birds. So that brings us to the next thing, and that's that out of the three December releases two of them featured holiday decorations prominently, so a cold area DLC becomes more likely. Not surprising tbh, Frontier is a company that mostly situates in a market where December has a winter connotation.

Now, I'm not sure what the next pack will be, but something cold related makes sense in my book. Whether that is mountain, ice, or whatever, I don't really worry about that any more because Frontier has thrown curveball after curveball lately 😅

In terms of animals, I'd like to have something like this. 100% my own picks, I know there are people who are going to go "we don't need another bear, we don't need another cat", but these are simply animals I'd like to see so I don't really care about that :p
  • Shensi or Mishi Takin
  • Pallas' Cat
  • Alpine Marmot
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Himalayan Monal (this one just because NZ really wants one)
  • Gelada Baboon
  • Domesticated Yak
  • Grey Tree frog
I would be rather happy with this selection, just a bunch of cool animals (pun not intended) that I think could be nice additions to the game. None of these are holy for me, I would be fine with some of these switched out with other ones.

I didn't include a walkthrough exhibit, because I don't think we're guaranteed to see one in the immediate future.

Personally, I think they went with a Halloween-inspired pack to avoid making a third pack with a Christmas/winter vibe. While still cashing in on a holiday.

I don't see how the animal packs we have seen so far have a strong connection to the time of year they were released, and I honestly I doubt the match of the time of year and the theme of the pack is so important that they won't ignore it sometimes. Aquatic pack didn't have much to do with winter after all.

Especially in an animal pack it makes sense to don't go too much into a holiday theme. These themes are mostly carried by scenery.
We already got a reindeer and besides from that not a lot of wild animals are associated with Christmas. If Frontier feel like another theme could be more interesting than something slightly winter-like then I don't think they will hold back, when they already got two Christmas-ish packs out there.

I personally think that too, but more from a scenery standpoint. Like I don't see an issue with another winter themed DLC, it makes commercial sense after all, but I'm not sure that another set of winter/holiday themed scenery would have worked for the game. For me I think that's the major reason why they probably switched animal and scenery pack around this time.

To be fair, it's not a must at all, but it's just makes sense from a marketing perspective. If your primary market is in the middle of winter, it makes sense to release a pack that capitalizes on that. Like, it's not rocket science after all, almost every company does it.

Aquatic is as you mentioned the obvious outlier indeed, but that one could be released at any time and be profitable, and also came in a year where they were affected by COVID, so we don't really know how much of that was in play. But you are correct, it's a good example that Frontier will deviate when they want to, but I think only in situations where a pack itself doesn't really need it.

I agree, I'm not expecting it to be holiday themed, but just more cold climate/winter related. And in all honesty, that can be much broader. Like a mountain pack as some people have suggested.

I guess for people in the northern hemisphere there might be a more or less strong connection to the time of year:

  • Arctic pack: december (christmas, cold weather, snow, etc)
  • South america pack: april (jungle themed, weather is getting warmer in april with a lot more rain)
  • Australia pack: august (very hot weather)
  • Aquatic pack: december (penguin fitting for winter/snow/etc, seal fitting for more cold weather too)
  • South east asia pack: end of march (similar to south america pack)
  • Africa pack: june (similar to australia pack)
  • North america pack: october (fall, colder weather)
  • Europe pack: december (similar to the arctic pack)
  • Wetlands pack: april (somehow similar to the south american and the sea pack)
  • Conservation pack: june (plants were a big part of the theming, time before it's getting too hot for the vegetation, etc )
  • Twilight pack: october (days are getting shorter, more misty weather, slowly getting colder)

In my opinion the last packs always had a connection to the time they were released (in terms of the conditions in that time of year)..some stronger than others.

And because of that I could definitely see something mountain or fully aquatic themed for the next pack (I could see birds more during fall...because it's the typical time for the big storms in Europe......and birds -> wind/storm)

I see an obvious connection between some of them: Arctic, Europe, and Twilight.
But others of these could as easily have been tied together with different times of the year.

Aquatic pack spring: Half the pack is jungle themed, weather is getting warmer with a lot more rain. Both hot and cold climate species indicates a shift in the weather
South East Asia Animal pack summer: Very Tropical feeling, warm climate usually gets tied with summer.
Conservation pack spring: plants were a big part of the theming. Both hot and cold climate species indicate a shift in the weather.
Wetlands Animal Pack: I believe this could fall at any time.

I agree that they might go for a color scheme on the packs so that they match the time of year, and the marketing gets affected by it, and so on, but I don't think they always base the theme of the DLC on the season from the start. Most things can be twisted so they fit.

Dlc colors are very cool, but which colours could be in future possible packs? This could fit so well to tthe winter season. Winter dlcs are cold colours, normally blue, so this may fit.

Pallas‘s Cat and Alpine Marmot in one wishlist? Only absolute chads can propose that.

Hopefully it stays a dream (sorry, I am really not supporting an aviary DLC full with walkthrough exhibit animals which I think flying birds will be at the Moment)

Edit: A "Bird DLC" with a mixture of habitat animals and exhibit animals I would fully support (4+4 or even 4+6 as there are more exhibit animals than normal)

The idea was that, a mixture of habitat birds and walkrought or aviary animals, the habitat ones possibly the emu, rhea, pelican, kakapo (yes,a kakapo. And what?.I just want to see them in the game), kiwi and some waterfowls like ducks and swans. And for the aviaries with macaws, toucan, eagle, falcon, owls, hornbill, puffin, kea and various parrots and small birds would be perfect for me, just an idea

Good idea, I’d love a 4/6 split

WE:
Bald eagle
Toco toucan
Kookaburra
Rhinoceros hornbill
African grey parrot
Macaw—any species

Habitat:
Secretary bird
Shoebill stork
Scarlet ibis
Kiwi

Save the emu for another pack

One thing I don't see discussed enough is that the last 5 DLCs all had a temperate climate leaning.

We haven't gotten a tropical focused pack since SEA, and not a warm climate pack since Africa pack.

Closest were the wetlands and conservation pack with a mixed, but still temperate leaning selection of climates.

I think we are long overdue for any warm climate pack.

If macaws come to the game (What i really expect, this species is a MUST for every zoo) they should add bewteen 2 and 3 macaws. They are very diverse and colourful, so they should add as a minimum 2. Maybye the blue-and-golden and scarlet would be the perfect choices, and the military would complete the macaw selection. Maybye the hyacinth macaw would replace the military, but that´s just an opinion

That's a "problem" with a few animal groups. With megafauna, you usually have one or two representative of every group.

But with macaws, waterfowl, tamarins, rodents, snakes and so on you realistically require a lot more varied selection for a realistic zoo, something I don't see Frontier tackle in all honesty.

True. I love Tropical animals, specially new inclusions like the siamangs, capybaras and spectacled caimans, but we need more warm climate animals, specially from tropical biomes. Maybye the only temperate animal that i want is the greater rhea, but i want more jungle, wetland and rainforest animals.

The spectacled caiman was so redundant. I will forever be annoyed about that slot not going to an african crocodile.
