Ships Work in Progress: Complete Full Colour ED Ship Size Chart

Ready for the new additions? Though they are the same size as their sibling ships I guess.
Indeed, I am. ;). I have already prepared a version with placeholders for the new ships. I hope I can take the necessary pictures during the beta, but I have to find the time for that.

Just a suggestion: you could put the Ferdelance between Zee Pee Gee and Saud Kruger as it's a joint model. (And you might as well make a version where all the ships have the new pink paint job!

I'm game for round #2 with the 3 new ships if you want?

Busy most of tomorrow and Friday though so it'd probably be the weekend or next week :)

Thanks, but I think I'm fine for now: the new ships weren't as problematic to frame properly with the debug cam as expected.

I will definitely need help with the upcoming gargantuan ships of 1.5 (Panther Clipper, Cutter, Corvette), though… ;)

Damn, didn't realise the Clipper was that big compared to the courier.
Yeah, that thing is surprisingly huge. I also didn't realise before that the Orca is only slightly smaller than the Anaconda.

I have good news and bad news…

The good news is that the new version 1.4, including the Imp. Eagle, the Fed. Assault Ship, and the Fed. Gunship is basically done.

The bad news is that I currently can't export it as PDF. I'm not sure where the trouble seems to be, but it appears to be a fundamental problem with the illustration application I'm using. It might be a while until this is fixed.

For the time being, you can feast your eyes on the 4K PNG version of the chart.

Three things I notice:
IEagle is bigger than ICourier.
New Fed ships are ugly (coming from someone who likes Dropship)
WHERE'S THE CONDOR???

Wider, yes. But so is already the Eagle Mk II.

No doubt. Especially the Gunship is one ungainly mother fornicator. It's as if someone screamed at the designers "ADD MORE WINGS!!!"

WHERE'S THE CONDOR???
I wanted to add it, but I can't get good pictures of it: you can neither take hi-res screenshots, nor use the debug camera in CQC. And the AI Condors won't pose for a nice photo.

Well you thought taking pics of huge ships was hard, now try trapping an NPC Condor between some Anacondas and taking a pic! That'll teach you what "hard" means!!!

Looking at this, I think for balance reasons the python should be LARGE ship and not medium. It makes no sense that the python is what it is AND be medium.

The Python is officially a large ship. What a ship can land on, however, is solely dictated where it physically fits into the dimensions of the pad and hangar. I am fairly sure the FDS is also a large ship, and it also fits on a medium pad, and the Vulture is a medium ship that still fits on a small pad.

Edit: Found the original quote:

Just because a ship can fit on a medium sized pad doesn't make it a medium ship as far as I'm concerned. That's just a bonus given its slimmer profile compared to the boxier traders. If the artists had made the type 7 a little slimmer or what have you they would be allowed to dock at medium pads too. The python has the stats of a large ship, can be heavy like a large ship and has the module customisation of a large ship.

Well I was not speaking about the general classification of a ship. I was meaning this more in landing capabilities.

It seems to be highly nonsense and a bit imbalanced that a Clipper with less weapons less internals can not land on them, while a Python user can enjoy medium landing pads. And with this comes the full scale opportunaties of also trading and refuleing/repairing at Outposts. Just the python being more expensive is hardly a valid reason. So all the clipper has on it's side is speed. Hardly interesting as a choice in true comparison. So the only real + for the clipper is looking a bit more stylish and futuristic. And being faster at the locations where you can't dock to trade or get missions, that kinda hardly makes the bit extra speed a balancing factor in the choice here.

generally speaking, the python seems to have no real downside at all. Unlike the fer de lance for exampel which at least has a low amount of Internals

Further given that many outposts act as refineries but excludes type 7's form landing while they are nearly as big as pythons, well bummer that it got those few more polygons and pixels restricting the access for it.

I am prbably too new to the game for detailed balance discussions, but lookign at the spreadheets I don't know why one should not own a python, its the jack of ALL trades while not with a real downside as others but still exceeding many other bigger ships or ships that should have a role exceeding the python ones.
