X55 Rhino Button Layout with Reference Card

Set a layout for my X55. I have relatively small hands(size 7) with this layout I can reach all important controls without taking hand of the throttle. May be someone find it useful.
Any suggestion am I missing something.

Hello again,

Since Gamma launched, the Custom option in the Controls drop-down menu doesn't show up anymore. I've placed the .binds file (Custom.binds) in the \AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings\ folder.
The X55 does show up in there so the joystick is detected.
Is there a UI change I'm not aware of? I've already deleted the folder once to start from scratch.

In the log file I have: Failed to find GUID for device: 23418036

Try to select X55 in the drop down menu and then change any button and save. I think after that you'll see custom option.

You can use any of the 4 ways on the throttle or stick to navigate in the Systems and Target panels. It means you can change you jump destination without needing to use the keyboard.

Yep, I have it on the stick hats. You, see there are UI controls marked at the bottom of two hat squares. I changed a little. Switch throttle hates functions. 'cause in a fight I was turning on panels accidently. And switched Flight assist and Reverse.

Not sure if anyone has asked this, but if any of you have used an occulus with the X-55 or another joystick setup, how do you Manage to hit all of the switches when you can't look down to make sure you're hitting the right one?

I have been using a 306 controller to play Elite and while I think a HOTAS setup is probably a more elegant way to fly in this game, I couldn't imagine trying it with an occulus? Then again I have never used either, so i would love some feedback

When I've tried it I end up avoiding the toggles and dials on the throttle, but everything else is so easily reachable I don't find it an issue. If you do need just a few more controls you can always set a bunch of toggles in a similar location to the same function, allowing you to be out by one without problems.

Although I ended up just using Voice Attack for a lot of the less time-critical functions (cargo scoop, landing gear, etc.)

I haven't tried playing with voice attack yet, although I hear plenty of good things about it. My main concern is playing with an occulus and moving my hand off of the throttle to hit one of the switches, that's just something I don't want to do even if I was playing without VR. I'd have to play around with it a lot to find a comfortable layout.

Just feed your Custom.binds to the generator linked in my signature; far quicker and easier than doing it manually.

Well done and thank you for writing and sharing that useful script, only thing I'd like is for the game name box to be populated but that's just the perfectionist/OCD in me talking :D

Mode switch selects thruster curve?

First time poster, been reading the thread and have an X55 on order. Not here yet, so I can't test this... I've noticed that many people aren't using the mode selector, and then I saw this comment:
A few notes on my setup that doesn't show up (not jgm's fault):
... - My throttle is set as continuous (push forward, pull reverse) with about 25% deadzone. This is really useful for flipping around using FAoff/reverse in a fight, but is tricky for landing (thinking of setting some landing overrides)

Can the mode selector be used to toggle between different thruster curves? Because it would be really sweet to have mode 1 with continuous throttle say, and mode 2 with 0-100% forward (and maybe use the thumb slider for reverse or something).
I realize you'd have to copy all of your other button settings to be identical between Mode 1 and Mode 2, but would that work? In other words, is the thruster curve a single universal curve across all modes, or can you set a curve for each mode?

I don't think so, since the continuous mode setting is in ED, not in the profile. Also, following Arkku's post, I decided to switch back to forward and using the slider for reverse toggle (using caps lock like he is). It's actually as good in a fight, and none of the hassle with landing, or taking off for that matter since if you accidentally are out of the deadzone in continuous, you will smack into something :)

Elite Dangerous recognises the Rhino stick and throttle in game, but it cannot distinguish when the mode switch is in different positions unfortunately.

To use the mode switch you need to use the Saitek software. It is possible to integrate the 2 systems together, but it's really messy, and seems sensitive to what order you startup up ED and the HUD software, assign HUD profiles etc.

Greetings!
Сomanders who use FA-off, which configuration you for the X-55? How you control additional rods?

Tandko (or others) where do you get that reference sheet from? -> Post #281
Can't find it anywhere.

This is not the completed one I run with at the moment. I could update it for you if you like it. If I can get a good image of the stick I could do my maps on that too. This setup has never failed me and is easy to access everything :)
I got a few on these for different games since I like to be able to print them without wasting time and ink on colorful images as most keymaps on google will show up, lol.

If you have mode selection, you are using the Saitek HUD software to emulate key presses, and binding in ED to those keys?

Have no HUD on the X55, but yes, I programmed all the buttons as the default keybinds from the game. That also means that I basically only have to map the axis in the game, if my keybinds would get wiped with some update or such. :)

... since you're using the Saitek software, how about my question above? ;) Can you change the throttle curve with the mode switch? I.e. can you have mode 1 be 0-100% and mode 2 be -100 to +100
