Spring dlc Speculation 2023

And the scarlet ibis.

I don't understand this obsession with the american flamingo that is getting so much track lately. I prefer a unique bird model/rig that we don't already have like an ibis or spoonbill than a flamingo reskin. The american flamingo is great for an anniversary animal.
We're well on our way to having "secondary" versions of many base game species, and greater flamingos really aren't all that common in the US, at least. American flamingos are much more vibrant, and both they and Chilean flamingos would help flesh out the South American roster. That's not to say that an ibis or spoonbill wouldn't also fill those roles, and in a perfect world I'd like to see all three, but it makes sense to me why people would want a second flamingo at this point. It also feels arguably a bit more realistic given Frontier's apparent hesitation to roll out truly unique birds.

In another thread, a comment that Cap said inspired me to start a little game:

So, with that in mind, let's build a set of DLC for this year, 4 total, plus a 4th anniversary. To more or less balance it out, here are the rules:

  • You have a total of 23 habitat species
  • The ratio will be: for every 3 mammals, you need 1 bird. For every 3 birds, 1 reptile
  • Exhibit animals are free-for-all, meaning they won't follow the rules except that you have a limit of up to 4
Tropical Pack
1. Red river hog
4. Mantled guereza
3. Ocelot
4. South American coati

Islands Animal Pack
5. North Island brown kiwi
6. Tasmanian devil
7. Matschie's tree kangaroo

Mountains Pack
12. Sichuan takin
13. Spectacled bear
14. Pallas's cat
15. Markhor

Anniversary 4
16. Black swan

18. African spurred tortoise
19. Rock hyrax
20. Patagonian mara
21. Greater rhea
22. African crested porcupine
23. Hamadryas baboon

Only 2 monkeys and no new antelopes or domestics beyond the dromedary isn't ideal, and I could honestly replace the mountains pack with any number of things, but there we go. 100% on board with the other three, at least.

These are my choices using the mammal/bird/reptile ratio - I used the two free slots for another bird and reptile.

Islands Pack
Fossa
Goodfellow's tree kangaroo
North Island brown kiwi
Tasmanian devil
Exhibit. Marine reef aquarium, with 12 small species that can be divided up into 4 basic animation styles:
  1. Fish that spawn with an enrichment item - Ocellaris clownfish, tiger-tail seahorse, bluestreak cleaner wrasse

  3. Fish that idle in the water - Banggai cardinalfish, azure damselfish, green chromis
  4. Fish that swim in loops - Copperband butterflyfish, harlequin filefish, flame angelfish

Rainforest Animal Pack
Colombian red howler monkey
De Brazza's guenon
Giant Asian pond turtle
Grey-winged trumpeter
Ocellated turkey
Owston's civet
Red river hog
Walkthrough exhibit. Small, long-tailed parrots - Ring-necked and Lord Derby's parakeets, sun and nanday conures and rainbow lorikeets

Gelada
Transcaspian urial
Yellow-throated marten
Exhibit. African pancake tortoise

Safari Animal Pack
African crested porcupine
African spurred tortoise
Banded mongoose
Black rhinoceros
Common eland

Interim Financial Results are out, and with that comes this.

This time referring to CY2023 instead of FY2023, so whilst it was mostly soft hinted at at the end of the year, we now have at least somewhat of a confirmation that we'll get more DLC in calendar year 2023.

I wonder if the use of CY instead of FY means frontier is undecided on dlc packs in 2024. At least we are getting continued support this year

As I mentioned in the other topic, if the other "own IP creative management game" is another Planet game, I'd say that it's probably not super likely that we'll get much more in 2024 as I don't really see them supporting multiple Planet games on top of the other ones they have in store (F1 games, Alien Dawn, Warhammer, etc.).

As we all expected, but I like that it is confirmed officialy. I will still hope for more DLCs in 2024, even if it were just 2 until the summer.

There are so many animals that could still be worthy additions that cannot be possibly added in one year and even tho I am very grateful for all the amazing animals and features Frontier has brought to us, i would love if PZ zoopedia would be filled with diversity and even more niche animals, which are at least for me, way more interesting in zoos than the big star animals.

Nice! CY2023 means we get 4 more DLCs this year then?! Whoohoo!

I vote for Rainforests, Deserts, Highlands, and... well let's go for something weird: Recently Extinct animals. :p :D

As for free updates, I hope we'll get:

  • sperm bank + artificial insemination (so you can still use a deceased male, which will help in breeding programs)
  • scenario creator

Drylands
Porcupine
Dromedary
Secretary bird
Echidna
Patagonian mara
Somali wild donkey
Honey badger
WE: Owls

Islands
Tassie
Fossa
Tree kangaroo
Kiwi
WE: Macaws

Tropical woodlands
Sloth
Red River hog
Coati
Mantled guereza
Howler monkey
West African slender shouted crocodile
Great Malaysian Argus pheasant
WE: Toucans

Anniversary: Addax

Highlands
Wolverine
Hamadryas baboon
Golden Takin
Spectacled bear
WE: Eagles

I didn’t fit the 4th habitat bird but I would also really like to see the Great white pelican and Shoebill too.

Also the Black rhinoceros, Spider monkey, Père David’s deer and Gray crowned crane would make a really great Endangered pack for 2024.

Literally threw both fists up in the air after reading this. I'm a pessimist and a skeptic by nature, so I wasn't prepared to take another full year of support for granted even though there were several strong signs. Such exciting news.

For everyone who doesn't want to do the math it works out to 16 mammals, 4 birds, 1 reptile, and 2 leftover spaces which I guess you can use for anything?

Rainforests Animal Pack: (with 3 Primates!! They are needed!)

Two Toed Sloth
Red River Hog
Lar Gibbon
Howler Monkey
Spider Monkey
Coatimundi
Shoebill Stork
Walk Through Exhibit/Non Walk Through Exhibit: Macaws

Islands Scenery Pack:
Tasmanian Devil
Fossa
Tree Kangaroo
Kiwi
WE/NWE - Cockatoos

Drylands Animal Pack:
Crested Porcupine
Bat Eared Fox
Patagonian Mara
Grey Kangaroo
Olive Baboon
African Spurred Tortoise
Secretary Bird
E: King or Indian Cobra

The Cold Front (not using the Highlands name since not all of these are mountainous, yet trying to come up with some kind unifying description term).
Walrus
Wolverine
Spectacled Bear
Trumpeter Swan
WE/NWE (definitely NWE) - Eagles

Anniversary - Masai Giraffe

Alright, that's 18 mammals, 4 habitat birds and 1 habitat reptile. I think with the two additional spots that can be used for anything, that sets it right..Also 11 of my top 12 mammals because I threw in a bunch of primates that are ranked lower for me, just because I know they are needed and much requested by the community. The biggest thing missing for me here is the lack of Toucans but I couldn't figure out a way to get them in.

Question: CY means current year? This is great! Also I saw JWE2 is going to have more dlcs. I want to be more optimistic that 2024 could be the final farewell to PZ, marking its 5th anniversary. So for next year we will have a new F1 and a new planet game?

Yeah current year. I'm hopeful that planet zoo is wrapping up as this could mean some juicy updates this year if so. Moving onwards another F1 game and a new addition to the planet universe seems most likely
