Everything petting zoo/farm/domestic animals pack

Considering that this pack is one of the only chances I see of us getting an Old World Porcupine (that isn’t just a Grasslands Pack 2.0) I’d be pretty disappointed with this lineup. The goat, squirrel monkey and rainbow lorikeet are all great options, but I’d have to sub the Mara for the more highly requested and unique Crested Porcupine, and the Helmeted Guineafowl for some kind of Rabbit, which would bring to the game a completely new type of animal!
I think the Crested Porcupine has many packs it could fit in. Safari, mediterraian, middle east, drylands, zoo classics and the list goes on.

Theoretically there’s a tonne yeah! But I’m not too sure any of those are as likely as a Children’s Zoo pack. Safari and Drylands are pretty similar to already released packs, Med and Middle East would be great but I’m not too sure they’ll return to regional packs. Zoo classics is an idea, but one I’d think they’d save till the last pack.
Who knows what pack a porcupine would come in! But I think at this point, the most unique and likely theme is Children’s Zoo.

Given that a porcupine comes with some unique animation challenges, I think it's likely that it will come in a scenery pack and that the other animals in said pack will be simpler.
I know it's unlikely we'd go back to location based packs but I'm still holding out hope for a mediterraiian pack which fits what you said.

African Crested Porcupine
Barbary macaque
Wild boar
European Hare or White Stork
Mabey a dove walkthrough exhibit

I do think porcupines could actually work quite well in a children's / petting zoo pack, having seen these pictures of an enclosure for Indian crested porcupines with a special feeding table included within their enclosure that allows very close access between porcupines and visitors, at a small zoo (Naturschutz-Tierpark Gorlitz) in Germany.

More information about the design of this exhibit can be found here:

So I've been thinking about this a lot now, because I generally get very excieted for theming usually :D

I tried to come up with a few different approaches to this topic!
Please understand that my main focus was the overall theme and the building pieces, not the animals :)

I also know that it’s unrealistic to expect this much from each pack, I just wanted to throw around ideas that came to mind!

Spring Fever aka Easter Pack

This pack is all about lively, flowery, sweet somewhat romanticised spring time!
Its the more loose thematic approach. I’ve said it before in the Spring DLC speculation thread but: Where the Twilight Pack had Halloween and the Arctic Pack had Christmas, this would have Easter. I wouldn’t want it to go to hard into that either, but some ideas for it:

Building:

Mushrooms
Variety of flowers
Blooming Trees
More Flower Pots
Gardening Tools
Rose-Covered Set (Archways, Pagoda, Walls)
New greenhouse Set
flower petals on ground
Foggy Glass + Water drops decals
(Horizontal!) Birch wood set
Easter decoration

Animals:

This would be the loosest interpretation on domestic. With the Easter/Spring theme it would surely need a bunny/rabbit/hare of some kind and a type of sheep. These could also be wild though. I could see stoats/weasel cone with this aswell as maybe a new deer species and even the somewhat popular wild boar.

A domestic chicken might me the most obvious choice here, but I could also see geese, swans and ducks for the bill (get it?)

For the WE I’d love some kind kinds of small song birds (5 kinds, similar to butterflies) or even more butterflies

Free Update:

Bird Nests
Changing Winter coats
Picknick blankets

Farm Pack

The theme that takes the word farm more into the agricultural direction. This could also have a focus on farming in different cultures, which I admittedly don’t know all that much about myself, so it would be fun to get a glimpse.

The educational approach here could go for food waste, mass production, palm oil,…

Building:

Crops (wheat, corn, rice, canola,..)
Trees with fruit on them
Placeable Gravel/Sand
Tractors etc
Barbed wire fence + rolled up barbed wire
Powerlines
Silos
Automated Sprinklers
Straw/Haybales
Farming decor (milk can, sheers, wind mills,…)
Cowboy decor (saloon doors, cowboy hat, lasso,…)
Cute grandma-style seating sets + pillows
Curtains
Basic kitchen items
Decorational meat/bones
Farmhouse Style Build Set
Wild West Style Build Set

New Features:

Hay Feeder
Hay Bale enrichment
Automated Sprinkler as enrichment
Fruit Trees as enrichment
New water troughs
Shop that sells Honey
Shop that sells soup
Shop that sells artisan goods

One thing I am actually against though is actual farming mechanics. I want the crops as decoration but no actual mechanics to harvest them or anything…

Animals

For these domestics we could go a bit crazy, super traditional or a mix of both. We all know cattle, pigs, sheep, chicken and goats are part of this. But we could have Scottish Highland or Watussi as a more specific breed.

As much as I personally don’t need it, the ever so popular dromedary camel would fit here! They are used in a variety of ways and I personally have had camel milk hot chocolate before haha

Other cool less obvious inclusions would be turkeys and ducks. WE could be barn owls, a calm chicken breed or quails. Maybe even falcons if we get aviaries before this. Exhibit could be mice as a common farm guest or even crickets representing insects as upcoming meat alternatives

Free Update:

Powerlines that can power larger areas away from the generator
Getting food needs filled up from grazing

New Mechanics:

Petting Zoo Mechanic
Food Dispensers
Feeding Plattform for other animals (giraffes, elephants, camels, monkeys,…)
Playgrounds
Horse Riding as a transport ride/activity (like in Zoo Tycoon 2)
Candy-Shop
Plushie-Shop
Face Cutout Photo Walls
Face Painting Station

Building:

Playground Building Set
Rubber-Texture Building Set
Plushies
Books
Postcard/Pamphlet/Map Stand
Chalk drawing decals
White picket fence
School Bus (decoration and as guest spawner)
Colorblocking bench set
Farmhouse Style build set

Animals:

The motto is cute, friendly and able to be petted by kids haha so the Shetland Pony feels like a good candidate here! Obviously sheep and goats would work here aswell, but I want to throw in miniature pigs or even kune kune pigs as both are said to have a friendly nature. Eventhough birds don’t go well with kids, I think Guinea pigs or budgies would make good WE for this! Other inclusions might be donkeys, bunnies, alpacas and bigger horses. As I’m personally a bit scared of monkeys, I have no idea what might fit here, but people have mentioned monkeys in this context, so I wanted to include them :)

Free Update:

new walk-through gates
Child friendly designed presets for education billboards
Keepers brushing animals (could be added to a few existing ones)
Guests with strollers, wheelchairs, (guide) dogs (new building challenge)

I don't want a domestics/farm/petting zoo pack but I have to say I like some of your ideas for building pieces @zoosaurus. I hope that if we get such a pack, which I would not be a fan of, we will at least get one more exotic domestic animal like the dromedary or the watussi and good building pieces. Especially hay bales and more traditional and realistic herbivore feeders.

Please not a stoat I'm getting inscryption flashbacks.

I've been thinking about a domestics pack again recently, I feel like it would have to be a scenery pack because of all the new features and building styles it would need. I'm not sure if only 5 is enough animals for this pack but if ai had to choose...
  1. African Dwarf Goat - I don't think I need to say much here, they are the archetypal children's farm animal and would be basically a shoe-in pick.
  2. Domestic Rabbit - This is a great opportunity to finally get a rabbit in the game and these are also everywhere in children's farms.
  3. Guinea Pig - Some might say these are too similar to the rabbit but I disagree, the idea of having guinea pigs scurrying around in a guinea pig village style enrichment sounds very fun. These are just as ubiquitous in children's farms that I also think they are necessary here.
  4. Muscovy Duck - I wanted to include a habitat bird and I think this is the best option. First of all, these are common in zoos not just as domestics but also as wild animals so this would be a good pick to appease the non-domestic crowd. This would also be our first waterfowl AND a boost to South America.
  5. Budgerigars (WE) - One of the most common domestic birds in aviculture, perfect for this pack and the first flying bird with loads of colour morphs. However, I am also wondering... Would it be possible to also include the Cockatiel? It might require a bit more than a reskin and I'm not sure if they can be kept with budgerigars but if so it wouldn't hurt to have both.

When you mentioned "grandma-style", it reminds me of my grandma's house up here in the country. She has very old furniture that, I personally wouldn't want in my house (I'm clumsy), but it's very nice and somewhat cozy.
Oh, and don't forget pies. Apple pie, blackberry pie, and the weakness of all Texans: pecan pie (with some vanilla ice cream)
The animal choices are rock solid, and I especially love the barn owl WE...

I am hopeful that if content does continue to come through part of next year, we would get the petting zoo as either the Fall 2023 or Spring 2024 pack. I feel like those are good places for it and would probably be a scenery pack. Especially if it would be Spring 2024, it would mean that hopefully, many of our still missing more requested animals will have already made it in, so there's less negativity about the animals/theme taking up spaces for the Tasmanian Devil, Wolverine, Kiwi etc.

Totally agree! I think there is a good chance that once we know we get a whole 2024 (🤞🤞🤞) the feeling might shift from "this is taking away slots from wild animals" to "wow, there is still new mechanics that can be added after 5 years" 🥰

Sorry for the double post, I didn't see this right away!

Let's hope for Spring 2024! :D
Or a nice summer 2024 spend on the country side :D

Exactly. Let's let's say it comes in the fall. two packs from now. If we look at the two packs we've just gotten, that is, depending on how you look at it, 3 to 5 animals from the very top of the meta lists being knocked out. Maned Wolf, Emu, Sloth (maybe), Lar Gibbon (literally added yes but was it still wanted that much?) and the Red River Hog. Thinking on those terms, the next pack could knock out another 2 or 3 highly requested animals. And if the farm/petting zoo came in Spring 2024, adding a total of 3 packs in between, you could probably be looking at 6-8 heavily requested animals having been added in. So it definitely would cut down on the community's priority animal's spots being taken up.

I think that there's some hesitation for this kind of pack which I understand, because I have it too. I absolutely do not want this type of pack ahead of an Old World Porcupine, Tasmanian Devil, Wolverine or Spectacled Bear. I would look at it very differently if we'd somehow gotten all of those animals in before a Farm/Petting Zoo pack were released. I mean, even though I want them, how disappointed am I really going to be if we don't get a Grey Kangaroo (one of my favorites) or Musk Ox (Community favorites). A little, but not much. As you said, I'd just be happy we were still continuing to get packs next year at all.

Do people still want a domestic pack? This is an idea I came up with just now for an animal pack.

childrens zoo pack.png

I guess the major omission here would be any kind of equine like a donkey or pony, but I'm not sure how likely those would be now that we have the wild counterparts. You could also theoretically swap the muscovy duck for a form of goose (i.e. swan goose). Ideally I would also like multiple birds in walkthrough, cockatiels and zebra finch would be cool but I think it'd be unlikely to get more than one species and the budgerigar makes the most sense.
