Why not, there is a lot of effort to get the new stuff fully engineered but as you can buy it from the Pioneer Supplies outlets in the stations and bases partially engineered I haven’t bothered and haven’t really missed the last two levels of boost.

I've got Odyssey on two of my four CMDR accounts. I did grind (of sorts) on one of them, doing missions to improve suits and weapons. The other one I just do exobiology and general sneak-mission mischief and have just as much fun. Perhaps more, as there's more adrenalin.
Yes, all my hand-held weapons that I use in the CZs are just over the counter ones from Pioneer Supplies. I've managed to find all grade 3 ones over time and one or two have engineering mods as well. All my suits are G3 as well - for any higher grades than that in either weapons or suits you have to do the engineering grind and I've made a very SLOW start on that, but actually I've also found that G3 on everything works pretty well for me and I'm too busy having fun to spend a lot of time grinding.
Short answer from me is "Yes! Buy it!"

I could see what the reviewer was getting at but, for me, it just didn't feel that way.

I didn't come to Elite Dangerous for a first person shooter, so I do very little on foot game play other than Exobiology. I find this a great addition to exploration game play. It creates a reason to explore the surface of planets more, and you do get tot see some great sights as a result. On discount, I think Odyssey is worth it just for that. Exobiology also pays well in credits, if that matters to you.
Internal sense/consistency is important for a game and I still cannot get over how a hand weapon cost more than a jump capable ship and why people are fighting over a small building using troops dropped from multiple spacecraft which logically can flatten the entire settlement by itself.I watched a YT video "review" of Ody ground CZs yesterday. Yep, this was part of the disassociation they alluded to. I think one reference was it was like dropping Super Mario Cart into a football (soccer) match.

I will see if Scan can maybe do me something along the lines of the third one. I will look into our WiFi. I have, post-build, a double garage mann cave, which apart from two MG's in various states of failure and the ubiquitous Fox Mulder 'I Want To Believe' poster also has a sofa and WiFi. I work out there from time to time, so hopefully I have the pacy option already. Our core feed is fiber, despite living in the deepest, darkest sticks.Hello! Out of the three lappies (yes a laptop can work fine) you've linked, I reckon the third will be the most capable. Yes, the others will run the game, but at various degrees of reduced performance. I certainly wouldn't recommend gaming on 8GB of physical RAM despite whichever GPU you choose. And the RTX2050 model will struggle somewhat. *
I've never used Box - all my PC's have been built by Scan. I highly recommend them and their system building site lets you really customise a build to your needs. Not the cheapest folks, sure, but you do get some really great after sales.

* As a reference point, I have an AMD Ryzen 7 5800x, 32GB RAM, and an RTX3080 (on a desktop PC with some other bits and bobs) and this lets me play in 4K without too much trouble. It does stutter every now and again though. Another point is Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax). This is a great to have if your router supports it. I'm using this to play - I really want to get an ethernet connection though - although my router only support the earlier WiFi 5 protocols; which is slower.

I am looking for a bigger screen, as I trade Forex and find the larger screen easier for zooming out my charts. Hence grudgingly moving over a grand. And absolutely appreciate your PPS - don't worry, happy to state here that if I buy junk then I have only myself to blame for mucking up. I have to be similarly cautious when students ask me for feedback on the market. So thank you for the advice, all taken in the spirit intended.
I'm with you - I bought my first PC, shared with my wife (then girlfriend) while we were at university. We didn't live together, so solemnly carried it between our respective houses once a week or to suit study needs. We bought it on hire purchase via Radio Rentals (I was at uni '92-'96, although appreciate that the PC story sounds more like something from the 1970's!), it whirred and wheezed its way through German essays and extended games of Civilisation with similar pomp and ceremony, used to spool up like a Harrier before much happened, loved it. However, I am so often moving that there is nowhere really to set up a permanent base unit, I will end up just trying to move that so might as well go laptop. Then it can join me in Portugal, plus gives me garage gaming options (I have dreams of flying through space in total darkness, and for security the garage has no windows). But I am emotively with you entirely. Thanks again.Personally, I don't like laptops. Gaming aside, I just find them too restrictive - especially if you're just using the rig only. I like a fulll size keyboard, a mouse and a bigger screen. I also use a desk at which to sit. Sure, you can buy all those peripherals but there's nothing quite like the hum of overworked fans and RGB shenanigans down by your knees
