Without knowing anything about the feature, even if it's coming, there's an ability to accurately predict it's outcome. Fascinating.
Can we just get back to flying a spaceship as a lone Cmdr in a hostile galaxy ?The bases shouldn't be indestructible imo. If we can manufacture and sell goods in large quantities, there must be money sinks to balance it. Such as upkeep costs, upgrades, hiring NPC staff, and base defenses. If the economy is dynamic maybe conditions change where you sell goods at a loss or break-even. If a base is allied with a faction there's a risk of getting raided by competing factions. These raids would primarily be NPCs, because the number of concurrent players is too low and they're spread thin. When a base gets raided it could be plundered and damaged. The owners could hire NPCs to defend the base and repair it. It's a cycle of creation and destruction.
Seconded. For example to build bases on lava (metal-rich) and water worlds, gas giants requires exclusive tech which can be unlocked via a DLC.
There needs to be some reason to EVA in space though. What that will be if there are no ship interiors, I have no idea. The three most asked for features that I can think of are: Ship interiors, EVA (in space) and base building. Of those three, base building is the worst fit for Elite Dangerous.
I speculate it'll be either EVA in space, or in-game bug reporting and fixing.

Ship interiors don't necessarily mean your own ship. There could be derelict wrecks in space or on the ground that could be explored for mission objectives via EVA.Excuse me, but what is the big wish for ship interiors. What would you do?
Pretty sure you can get around just fine in space with your space ship.If there are no ship interiors, you have to be on the outside to get around![]()
To get around the ship if you don't want to be trapped in one place until the next landingPretty sure you can get around just fine in space with your space ship.
Perhaps Frontier could come up with a solution by limiting the building of bases somehow?Well, it’s not like we don’t have 30 years of MMO history to draw from, when it comes to the disaster that is having private “houses” in public game spaces. A lot of people were predicting the carrier spam we see today even before every player and their alts were allowed to buy one.
Pretty sure if it happens player bases are limited like fleet carriers--something like 16 bases per planet, 1 base per player per planet, 8 bases per player, minimum 10 km center-to-center distance between bases, maximum 1 km diameter of a base, no bases in permit-locked systems. Otherwise some big player group will Coruscant half the planets in the Bubble, starting with Sol and ShinrartaPerhaps Frontier could come up with a solution by limiting the building of bases somehow?
For the bubble it would make sense that factions/governments would regulate these sorts of things and it would be also be great if there was an upkeep to them with material costs and having to maintain them, in a similar manner to Valheim, so eventually the act of trying to upkeep zillions of bases would eventually become its own limitation and with disused bases becoming dilapidated and eventually material gathering spots that wipe them off the face of the planet after a certain amount of time. Also keeping them unlisted by default would, I think, pretty much solve the issue of clutter that Carriers initially brought, which I think has been mostly fixed in the system map view, but could be improved further by filtering them from the cockpit screen also.Pretty sure if it happens player bases are limited like fleet carriers--something like 16 bases per planet, 1 base per player per planet, 8 bases per player, minimum 10 km center-to-center distance between bases, maximum 1 km diameter of a base, no bases in permit-locked systems. Dude, what you're saying doesn't make sense, you're talking about a game where you teleport with a black screen from your seat to the outside of your ship. No matter, in some ways Elite is realistic, in others it just isn't.Sure, you can choose the lazy way out and not model G effects. But that would break the established rules of the Elite universe. Stations spin because there is no tech for artificial gravity. Walking in outposts is done with magnetic boots. Acceleration has effects on ship's pilot--if you accelerate your ship in any direction you will shift in the pilot seat and if you pull a hard turn in orbital glide you'll black out. Fall damage is a thing in Odyssey and you cannot disembark on planets that have more than 3G surface gravity (this makes high G-s officially too dangerous to work in!). If you board a ship, it boosts and that has no effect on you whatsoever, how does that work? At the very least it should pin you to the nearest bulkhead and incapacitate you.
I think the first rule of any good sci-fi and fantasy is internal consistency: establish in-world rules and stick to them. Elite already has the problem with ships ramming into things at 500+ m/s and not killing the pilot (OK, pilots are cyborgs, Remlock suits, special seat you're locked into, yadda-yadda--I can kinda handwave it away), it does not need to brake things even more blatantly.
Additionally, it is a feature that may be interesting for Horison players like Odyssey, it would add an attribute for both.Ship interiors and on-foot VR would make the most sense, and aren't that unrealistic either.
A common fallacy. Just because some aspects of a game (or a movie, a novel, whatever) are not realistic for whatever reason doesn't mean we can throw all logic and sense out the window.Dude, what you're saying doesn't make sense, you're talking about a game where you teleport with a black screen from your seat to the outside of your ship. The question might be has Frontier handwaviumed inconvenient facts away before in the name of gameplay?A common fallacy. Just because some aspects of a game (or a movie, a novel, whatever) are not realistic for whatever reason doesn't mean we can throw all logic and sense out the window.
