What's the Brand New Feature for ED in 2024?

Space legs was also envisioned for ED since the Kickstarter in 2014. Check the early dev diary videos where Braben talks about EVA, ship interiors, station interiors, hunting wild game etc. Lots people like to walk around inside and outside the ship (see NMS, SC etc). Some like it so much that they're willing to spend $100+ on ship concepts with interiors.

It wasn't me who posted the video ;)

Indeed, the video has been posted so many times to support whatever isn't in the game currently and to suggest 'promises' were broken.
I feel sorry for the kickstarters who took every word uttered as gospel & cast in stone - fortunately I bought just a game, without any aspirational inspiration, so I am satisfied with what I have, and welcomed Odyssey as something new and different (not played anything but since it launched).

Thanks for the video :). I've heard a lot about it in different forum threads, but had actually never before watched it. Now I did, and indeed would like many of the things talked about there, ship interiors in particular. But I'm content with what we have now and happy of any updates we might still get. :)

He’s “promised” and awful lot there!!

There's an extremely well know person who has returned to the game who previously slated Odyssey (without actually trying it!), he's now playing it and stated he would not enjoy going back to Horizons.
Odyssey offered extra stuff and like legs, you don't have to do any of it if you don't want to.
Personally i couldn't go back to Horizons either.

I didn’t mean to imply that you thought CQC was a bad idea
I was just making that point clear.

and I’m just assuming here but I’m sure that the people who compete in SRV racing see Elite as a spaceship game first and racing in SRVs as a side bonus.
I'm not suggesting the converse, but ok.

There's no incorrect way to have fun.
Then I guess you would fine for those who enjoy SRV racing to fly their spaceships to destinations where they can have fun in their SRV?

Elite and Minecraft couldn't really be much more different
So again, I'm not saying they are comparable in any other way than that limited, but entirely valid, comparison I made to counter your point, you are.

It's quite simple: Minecraft, even though it is a sandbox building game (as you correctly state and I agree with), has very little in there you could actually use to race, in fact much less than Elite, but people still do. Elite has SRVs which can be used to race, and actually are a lot of fun to race, which people do. Both Minecraft & Elite are games that are not considered to be racers, which your original point suggested that people should stick to if they want to race. My point as a response to that was that people who like to race will find things in games which are not specifically racers that accommodate that, even though they are not racing games, which Minecraft & Elite are not - as we have already established. Therefore for the purposes of my point using Minecraft is entirely valid. Your dancing around it by trying to move the goalposts and bring in irrelevancies does nothing to contradict or disprove it, and further replies of that nature will only show that your disagreement to that is, at this juncture, based on wilfully misinterpreting my point and creating a false comparison.

and the fact it's already a base building sandbox game with modding capability means it can be a “race game”.
Lmao Minecraft is not a race game, are you really serious? Look, if you want to say that Minecraft is a race game then under that kind of faulty logic Elite is doubly so a race game.

The enormous popularity of Minecraft and the nature of the game itself is entirely relevant.
Not in the slightest. Read above, but I guess if you're goal is to misrepresent the points that people are making so you can manufacture a false scenario where you can claim you are right, then trying create a relevancy between two in a way that is entirely irrelevant to the point you're supposed to be countering, but evidently cannot, would be an approach to make.

Elite needs to stick to what it's good at i.e. being a space sim with a dedicated niche audience.
You speak for yourself of course. Incorporating tools to base-building that those who like racing can use to have more fun (which according to you "There's no incorrect way to have fun.") is not turning Elite into a racer per se, or as you allude, taking away from Elite is "good at", and could very much add to what Elite is already "good at" - which includes the SRV. Racing is just one facet of the game that could be accommodated with not too much effort on Frontier's part, as an addition to base-building, if they decide to do so. No-one is saying that base-building couldn't be in space and the same tools couldn't be used for ship racing..

Well, technically we can join to cqc from main game, somewhere in comms pannel, I'm not sure if certain station contact could be difference 🤷‍♂️
It would as it would be a place to converge in game that could also be visible in the game. There was a recent discussion about the limits of telepresence, CQC kind of breaks that IMO. Though I do get that it is more convenient for players so it isn't something I'm that bothered about, but I would think it better if it were represented properly in the game.

What have shoes got to do with it?

Of course, why wouldn't I?

I really don't know what your point is.

I didn't say it was, I said it can be.

Could you sum up the overall point your trying to make then? I'm pretty lost to be honest.

I didn't say it was, I said it can be.

A difference without a distinction, if Minecraft can be a race game under that criteria then so can Elite. I don't know what to tell you, it's what you're saying, not me.

I suggest re-reading the discussion, if you can't be bothered, then why presume I should be bothered to explain it back to you? I think we can leave it there. o7

Minecraft is a highly moddable sandbox game with players and creators numbering 1000x over that of Elite.

Mods of various types including full conversions (yes, racing) exist and are iterated upon by an enormous playerbase.

Elite is the mirror opposite, it has no sandbox elements and like most online only games -no mod support.

These are facts.

If Elite adds base building support, then adding custom tracks isn’t such a big stretch. I already said that several posts ago. What's the problem here?

I am also one of them, I would not play Elite, if only Horizons existed, Odyssy was the reason why I loved Elite. Of course she had defects in her output, but they are not design errors, they were optimization errors. People forget that

Same here. The expansion of exploration alone was worth the price of admission, and I do like the on-foot stealth mechanics, even if the nature of this game means I can’t indulge in it frequently. It has its flaws, but as a foundation for future paid expansions, it’s solid. It’s a pity that it was rushed out the door without optimization, and the resulting lack of sales might’ve killed those future paid expansions. :(

It might help to understand the context, it's KickStarter time and developers tend to be very optimistic as they're asking people to part with money while trying to hit a target.

Suffice to say, Frontier never bothered KickStarter again after Elite Dangerous.
And as you have in your sig .... ship interiors were Frontier's idea

Like multiple shield generators on ships, and and and...
