It's my hope that Frontier will take note of how much discourse there is around similar-but-different subspecies/subpopulations and just give us more of them.

I firmly believe that a lot of the base game 'clones' were later additions to pad the roster, which would mean there's no real reason to leave out one or two additional popular choices. The Bengal tiger, fine, as pointless as it is for the majority of zoos outside of India, and the Siberian, yes, one that is relatively widespread, but also the Sumatran, by and large the most significant of the lot in terms of conservation efforts in the modern day. This is something they ought to do for the brown bears as well, and the wolves, and, even at the species level, the flamingo.

I obviously don't see the Bengal tiger as essential. I don't think "because most people don't know the difference" or "it was in Zoo Tycoon" is a reason worthy of consideration. However, I obviously don't think it needs to be a choice between one or another, especally in the case of tigers. I'm very salty they gave us the African leopard instead of the Sumatran tiger in the 1.18 update.

I don't mean to get in the way of the game, sorry.....

Would it be easier and more accurate to ask people to nominate animals for the 4 categories and keep a spreadsheet which really is just counting up votes for different animals? You can make the sheet public so that we can keep an eye on it as well.

This will also help when the thread is 26746548 pages long and is really just repetition.

First of all that’s a lot of work I really don’t wanna do for time reasons. Having a thread like this where I just have to post a picture a day is a lot easier.

Second like someone else said the point of the thread isn’t really for extreme accuracy, it’s just so that people can stay active on the forums or give them something to do. My original intentions by the end of this whole thread was to show my predictions on what the PZ2 roster would look like, while in the process getting lots of opinions and feedback for what others think about what the roster will be.

Moving on, my placement for the tiger:
When I ranked it myself I took it as “ok it’s a tiger so it should be in the base game” but I didn’t think about the Sumatran tiger. While I do think it’s also a good move I agree with leaf I think because its a staple in zoo games they wouldn’t leave it out of PZ2 base game.

it seems that every animal in this list is going to be in Essential for PZ2 BaseGame Teir

I know it is a but hypocritical to what I just said but I would put the sheep and all the Barnyard animals (with the exception of the goat and pig, which have better alts) in essential Base Game tier.

also bit of a shameless plug but I got a game of my own, ranking all the scenery in dlc's, here is the link to that (yes I am very impatint and want more reactions to that post thanks for asking, yes I am very say indeed 🙃)

Animal #4 - Hill Radnor Sheep

Which category does it fit into?
  • Essential for Planet Zoo 2 Base Game
  • Save for PZ2 DLCs/Deluxe
  • Doesn’t need to make it but sure
  • Can be left out entirely
I've been on the domestic train for a long time and think we should definitely get the staples, a sheep is included in this... Definitely essential. HOWEVER, it should not be this random British breed that even I hadn't really heard of despite living here. A domestic sheep is essential but the breed should be changed, the Oussent is the most similar that would make sense but the Cameroon and Jacob are also good options (Ideally we get all three in a drop down menu but alas that is unlikely).

This is one those situations in which i think is not an essential animal by any means but it looks so good and is just a basic domestic animal to have (and i rather have those be taken care of in the base game and not in DLCs) so it should be in base game. I deffinetly don't want a second farm pack in the sequel.

So yeah not essential, but should be in base game. Doesn't need a remake and there are wild animals that we need more that this one a second time in a DLC.

So not essential but not DLC material either, doesn't really fit any if the cathegories haha

How did we agree on essential? Hill Radnor sheep should be dlc as a different breed.

How did we agree on essential?
We didn’t, it’s my placement. The thread is for the community’s opinions but the tierlist itself is made by me.

Actually when I finished putting all the animals in myself I had only 70 something animals in essential. I tried to stay below 80 as that’s what JWE2 had around. I promise there are a lot that fit into other categories we’ve just had really unlucky pulls lol

Since I don't want to go through the trauma of a farm DLC again and since I believe that if the base game is not included, another DLC of this type is inevitable. The sheep should be essential.
