Im over a planet. Ive DSS'd it, there's supposed to be one biological, but I cant see any marker to that on the surface nor in the nav panel. Am I doing something wrong?

As far as i'm aware, 'biologicals' aren't shown as "markers" listed within nav panel. Instead, look for the BLUE patterns on planet/globe. Whenever you have time, you should probably check your in-game Codex--->Pilot's Handbook , and/or see this related Exo guide--> https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/exobiology-a-2023-updated-guide.615722/
Am I doing something wrong?
CMDR, any chance you could please stop posting your personal off-topic stuff ^ here in this RAXXLA thread? Please?
Some of us notice a new post pop-up and actually think it might be a new discovery or a relevant clue ( progress ) . :cautious:

Thanks, Ive clearly been out of the loop much longer than I thought-planetary poi used to be marked by orange circles and labelled in the nav panel. Or is this because I'm now playing Odyssey instead of Horizons, which is what I thought I'd selected?

I'm exploring the system where my current Raxxla hypothesis leads-any difference in what I expected raises a flag for investigation.

Mmm, how do you personally define progress in this quest? Ive been Questing since 2016 and haven't yet managed to define that satisfactorily

Edit
I think I'm fighting off a bug. Having had an exceedingly sore throat & temperature thursday/friday, bad headache since yesterday, upset stomach today. So I'm definitely not firing on all cylinders. Clearly Ive been running Odyssey today instead of Horizons. I shall take another couple of Ibuprofen!

However this thread is very friendly, it's the cameraderie that has made it a success. We dont know what we're looking for, where it is, nor how to recognise it if we do stumble it. So we generate a lot of discussion about all sorts of things.

I think you'd need to try and define "off-topic" in this thread... it's possibly the widest definition of having to be "Significantly off topic" in terms of forum rules in my humble opinion...

Why do I feel this way?

DB said "you don't know what it is"

MB said "it's in the Milky way"

And the codex rules out essentially nothing as it could be anything "from an unremarkable moon to a state of cosmic enlightenment.".... Whilst I doubt it very much the Cheddar cheese in my fridge could be relevant... ;)

FD have previously used external requirements to solve mysteries and internal game mechanics in other scenarios....

I tend to ask for more context or questions if I don't understand how a post might relate to Raxxla if I'm interested in it... If someone then said it's not about Raxxla I may then point out the subject of the thread if they posted continuously about it

Even the recent annual questions usually raised here about the Halloween events I could consider off-topic, but I don't personally...

I would hate this thread to become unhelpful to people searching... For example there have been 100's of questions about this thread when the answer is in the first post and most people helpfully point this out even though it can be tiresome.... "I can't read 1700 pages but I wanted to ask about...." obviously the search doesn't work for those people!

a new discovery/relevant clue would be equally hard to identify with us not knowing what we are actually looking for...

Anyway just my thoughts... and sorry for the notification....

:)

Mmm, how do you personally define progress in this quest?
That's an interesting question actually . ...hmm... Well, i would say, for example, threads/posts like this--> https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...can-every-system-within-200-ly-of-sol.531480/ ... But otherwise, any theory or search or evidence or something-to-rule-out-something-else ( aka intel ) would be considered as progress. Slowly but surely, it's about the collective accumulation of DATA.
I would hate this thread to become unhelpful to people searching...
Well , in my case, if you noticed i still helped him in my above reply.

My only polite request ( i can't "demand" anything since i'm not a Mod ) was to please stay on-topic for the betterment of this thread ( aka The Greater Good ) .

@Macros Black , as you are listed as the poster on page 1 for the opening post and in my opinion defining the purpose of the this particular thread and therefore rules of engagement...

"This ship log will be used to document the assumptions, facts, theories and efforts surrounding Raxxla, with the ultimate goal of locating Raxxla. All commanders willing to join are most welcome."

Any issues with efforts highlighted as potentially being significantly off-topic?

Hello all.

I have an update on my Raxxla search.

My thesis: I believe DB and DW and MB, when they all confirmed raxxla is in the game. I don't think it has been updated since launch. I think its a boring ol' planet. That's not landable, nor has Odyssey functionality. I think it is a planet in a system that actually exists, and that system is accessible by all. it probably just has a beacon pop up when you discover it, with something about how something catastrophic happened. Maybe we get a bajillion credits. Or maybe the devs then remove it, and put in galnet how a pilot found it, but it moved again.

We need to find the "Starting point" per se. Which we have to assume is Sol, since any "lore" around it would come from Earth explorers, and would relate things to Earth constellations. And we know these basic game mechanics have been used in story/mysteries:

1: Voyager satelites is an example of hiding something until a player gets close. They have to go X distance from a known starting point, and 'hunt' for it. It shows up when you come within X distance.
2: we know planets "move" with in a system, and a player can exit FTL, and sit in a spot, and watch things move around them.
3: We have exactly 2 ways to jump to a different star: we can use the map, or we can wake scan

now to the only known clues.

"To the jewel that burns on the brow of the mother of galaxies!"

The only mother of a galaxy is Cassiopeia. (We know Braben loves his mysteries wrapped in constellation lore)

Cassiopeia's constellation is the W in our sky. But the W only represents her body and legs. The head is typically not part of the constellation. It obviously changes based on the scale of any image you're looking at.

Using this tool: https://server1.sky-map.org/v2

You can map out stars. If the star exists in game, you can search by the Hip, or HD designation.
Cassiopeia has some interesting star names. A lot are HIP, some are their Greek, etc. Most are interesting systems. (Howard (the star system in game), has a real life star designation. So they can be anything in game, but if Fdev used an actual star map designation we have, its sub listed when you click on the star, and can entered into the search bar)

If you go to sol, and bring up the constellation, Schedar is Cassiopeia's Chest, So the head is "above" that

See that "burning" star? Thats part of Cassiopeia, and is HR 124. Is my guess for the "Jewel" (for now). It can be seen from inside almost any system in the bubble., so you can track cassiopeia from any system near or around Sol. And is faintly visible from Delphi.

Source: https://imgur.com/a/NMFhuMB

Nothing special there. As we expect. but, it's close enough to be a candidate for the lore, and you can travel on just Cassiopeia stars with a small jump range ship, from sol, all ~400 light years there. In fact, from what I can tell, You can jump to every Cassiopeia designated star, from just cassiopeia stars, starting from earth, all the way out at least 700 lyrs)

buuuuuuuttttt.

If we look at the raxxla and Dark Wheel images, they feature an Orrery View (yes the orrery view came later, you dont technically need it, but it makes it easier to see the "mechanical view" of a system, and thats how the clues are drawn)

I think the raxxla image is a hint of what raxxla does, and where raxxla is.

Raxxla is the 2nd planet from a star. The first planet is always visible. Raxxla is only visible sometimes. (it insinuates 3 times, out of that system's "year", since a circle on an orrery, is that star system's 'year')

And if we look at the dark wheels image it also features an orrery, and on the 2nd path (same path as Raxxla's brokenline), is 3 circles, insinuating that the system in the dark Wheel image has 3 bodies (1 main body, 2 moons, or 2 bodies, and 1 has a moon) on the 2nd circle.

I think the raxxla image and parts of the dark wheel image need to be combined.

Add in the Ouroboros, and spiraling stars (somethign that happens if you spin your ship in a circle....) and my main theory at the moment is:

If we are "retracing footsteps" we start in sol, and head towards the jewel that burns on the brow.

Maybe we have to travel on only known cassiopeia stars. with enough mapping, maybe they make "spirals"

Some Interesting systems I found in my search, I dont think have anything to do with Raxxla, but maybe:

27 Gamma Cassiopeia has a black hole, and is 497 lyrs from Delphi. You can get to it by just travelling on Cassiopeia designated stars. You can see hR 124 from it. If you view Delphi through the black hole, and go fowards or backwards, it "dances" or "spirals" with another star ( I can't tell what it is)

27 Gamma Cassiopeia is also known as "Navi" or the mid section of cassiopeia

ETA Cassiopeia is mentioned in the codex elsewhere, and has a gas giant named "Between"

When you jump between systems, witch space turns the opposite direction of the ouroboros on the dark wheel image.

I have more...ahem..'research' and a few private theories. But maybe something above kicks off something in your brain, or you find something. If not, then happy exploring anyways!

Speaking of Sol:

I've been searching loosely to find any investigations into the asteroid / planetoid 15810 Arawn.
If it exists in ED this object would have been detected by now so I'm not holding much weight to it. It orbits between Neptune and Pluto and would easily be picked up by FSS.
It just caught my eye as I was reading up on Arawn.

The short answer is no.

Get back on topic, and stay on topic. New ships and steam installations have nothing to do with the quest.

Also that's a Coriolis station, look at the triangles. It's been there for years :)
It is a Coriolis station. Dodecahedral stations only existed in some versions of the original Elite, the C64 that I played in the 80s.

That picture is actually the original start-up image that was used at release. It has been there for years. :)

Dont want to spoil the book plot (it's really a good read!) but IIRC:
Robert Garry was a former federal citizen and war hero who rebelled against the military and rejoined his father's pirate gang.

His father was a former Ceeper and I seem to recall his dead wife was a daughter of the Ryder family & possibly Oberon Ryder was Robert's grandfather...its a while since I read the book and the copawlot is ill so I havent got time to search through my notes

But in the book the planet Soontill was hidden by a "space fog"...the in-game system bears little resemblance to the book's description (apart from a large planetary surface artefact, supposedly the crater from the superweapon effect). This has led some to speculate that the Soontill system itself is not the correct one, however I suspect it is more likley that FD werent willing/able to support the book description accurately. IIRC the cloud effects came in only a couple of years ago, long after book release.
ED absolutely did not have anything resembling space fog at release. I don't even think the game can do a planet in space fog, now.
Not sure if it's even a thing in the universe. One would think that a planet's gravity would pull in a cloud of gas, rather quickly. If it does exist, it's probably a very temporary situation.

I also think it's quite clear from the missing explorer picture that what we see, is atmospheric fog. The pilot is close to ground and the fog covers the view of another planet, just over the horizon.

Been looking to this section of sky for a while and thought similar theories about a roadmap. Lots of interesting names and candidates to look for, but cant wrap my head around what may be a clue or not. I have my own reasons to believe RAXXLA is located in this portion of sky.

I can’t confirm what that image is intended to be directly, but I agree, your correct that such space fog would not necessarily ’follow’ a body, it ought to get absorbed through gravity surely, most likely over time as a ring?

In game these are separate POIs that arrived with the Codex, if this is representative of Raxxla it identifies a hand crafted location that’s unique.

However I suspect this is not.

The gas is more likely framed with the bodies behind it in the field of view, they likely are not in an orbit.

In my assessment it’s in space, as if you play with the saturation on a hi-res version of the image you can see a few stars shine through it.

The illumination artifice is blocking some aspects of the bodies behind it, so much so I presume this either identifies a large distance separates them, or this is a composite?

Personally I think this might just be stock imagery?

Id agree. Perhaps I phrased it badly, but I dont think Soontill was surrounded by/embedded in space fog, IIRC (& brain +stomanch are both woozy-think thedog & I may both have norovirus 🥺) the planet became visible through the fog, i.e. situated behind it - see book chapter 20. Id also agree this seems to be used here as a stock photo for the Halloween treasure hunt, which makes it use moot in the codex.

Edit
Sorry if that's off-topic!
( Apart from MB (Elite Legacy) the book authors knew nothing of Raxxla in ED, so I dont see how that pic, nor Soontill, can be relevant to Raxxla. Inferences can be drawn from the Codex about the TDW/CEIP, but inferences aren't proofs. Moreover IMO Lyta Crane is very suspect as a source of info on TDW)

The missing explorer image is a recycled cropped version of the codex image showing a Caeruleum Lagrange Cloud - introduced in the Beyond Chapter 4 update.

This means it can only be in space as there were no atmospheric planets at the time of taking this screenshot.

Depending on the camera settings used to take this image, it is likely a foreshortened zoomed view to capture the planetary bodies in the distance.
I would imagine you can only achieve a shot like this at the L1 or L2 points nearer to the bodies.

I am starting to think the Raxxla Codex's path is:

Brow of Cassiopeia (start) > jump ( i think 6 times, in a specific pattern/order) > and the parents grief/lovers woe/vagabond hearts is telling us the system with raxxla is a system in the area between Cassiopeia (parents grief), Andromeda (lovers woe), and Perseus (vagabond hearts)
