Frontier Store won't allow ARX purchase using PayPal!!!!!!

Firstly the store accepts Maestro anyway, so this isn't even a debate in the first place. Just buy your ARX with that.

PayPal may be widespread but it's not the de facto standard - everywhere that takes PayPal also takes EMV and in the majority of cases Amex as well - and even worse it is not a regulated standard. Frontier have deemed the risk of using unregulated payment providers much worse than using regulated providers.

On the other hand, Frontier have decided that they should be the ones to deal with holding your billing address even though that is something they could leave entirely up to their payment provider, so this is another case of Frontier just making weird unsupportable decisions after all.

Not everyone is from the UK and not every bank gives out debitcards that are Visa/Mastercard compatible. Mine gives out Maestro cards and is planning to start with Mastercards somewhere in 2025.

Paypal is the defacto standard for online payments. Frontier should just comply with what everyone is used to.
Sure they're not, hence the "don't know where you're from" and "If you have one"; no disrespect was meant on that front, I was merely trying to establish information and offer a potentially UK biased option at the same time, just in case. If you've got a Maestro enabled card the store does accept that as far as I'm aware:

While PayPal was a widespread option, and I do still use it where available, it's ultimately Frontier's decision which payment providers they work with. As a UK based company, Frontier are well within their rights to have reservations when dealing with PayPal given their standing within UK finance and law. Many UK based services have removed PayPal as a payment option following these changes. As frustrating as that is for users that prefer PayPal, it's an understandable stance for Frontier to take.

Well thanks to all who try to help. I have no card and don't intend to. PayPal worked fine with all my Frontier purchases since Beta of Elite.
So, no purchases for me. If anyone would be kind enough to give me a link how to buy ARX with Steam, I may look into it.
Thank you and have a wonderful christmas and a healthy and happy new year!

Visa was the defacto debit card a decade ago, when Mastercard moved into the debit card space, yet your bank doesn’t use them. Why should Frontier pay extra transaction fees because a few banks don’t issue the industry standard?

It’s the same reason you couldn’t use Amex on most UK card machines for most of the time I’ve had one.
Why? To sell ARX.

Visa the defacto debit card? Perhaps where you live. Not everywhere.

Just because a solution is comfortable to you, it doesn't mean the rest of the world must follow suit. It seems to me like you're pretending Paypal isn't a standard at all because you don't require it.

It's clear to me that Frontier are too UK centric in this regard.

It’s not standard. I’ve run a business. I did offer PayPal but an a significant cost compared to other options. And that’s the reason fewer and fewer places are offering it now.

And as others have said, you can use Maestro and even Amex. You can also use a Klarna card via Apple Pay if that’s your jazz.

Edit: I’ve just checked, you can also use a PayPal Debit card…

ETA but only works if you're playing the game through Steam.

I’m genuinely curious as I don’t think I’ve come across someone without a card before (at least not in many years).
Unrelated... but...
While in a phone store, I saw someone come in with a predicament. Their phone was broken, and they wanted a new phone urgently. They had bills due that day and their credit card was stored on their phone. To purchase the phone, they needed a credit card... to provide that they needed a working phone.

Oops!

So do you pay cash at in-person points of sale? And if so how do withdraw that cash from an ATM without a card? Or is your bank account just directly linked to your chosen phone payment method? I’m genuinely curious as I don’t think I’ve come across someone without a card before (at least not in many years).
I always pay cash. I have a card from my bank which works only with my bank and nowhere else, so I pay 0 € for that card.
Cash is freedom and for everything else like Steam or FrontierStore in the past I use PayPal.

Thank you mtfatboy3006 and Kimosabe_X for your help. I'll try your hints, would be nice if I can support Frontier. Thank you and have a great day!

...

Edit: I’ve just checked, you can also use a PayPal Debit card…

I had never heard of those and a quick goggil produced some helpful info, a few of which were:

There are no annual or monthly fees to own the card
You can get a digital card instantly when you sign up
You can request a physical card by going to your Accounts, choosing your PayPal Debit Card, choosing Manage, and then choosing “Request a physical card”

So maybe that is something to conside

EDIT - N.B. ON FURTHER ENQUIRING, DISCOVERED PAYPAL DOES NOT OFFER A PERSONAL DEBIT CARD IN THE UK... sorry

😆 There’s a hole in my bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza…

Why don't FDev move into the 21st Century and accept cryptocurrency?
Good idea, that way they could run off with the funds and no-one could do anything about it*

* I am not suggesting that Frontier would do so, but unregulated exchange methods are not a noose I’m putting my head into. Even worse than ARX.

How could they "run off" with Bitcoins etc any easier than they can run off with any other currency used in a digital transaction to buy ARX?

The question is how could you get it back if it’s unregulated?
