Why are traders playing Open Play?

They are.

Your comparison is like saying 'hey, I have to go to a place that's 50 miles away, and get there within two hours. I should use a car!'

Only in this case, it's 50 miles of solid rock you have to tunnel through. You don't just hop in a car.
Dont know for you but i'm not a programmer. I dont care what is the solution, it is their problem to solve. I only hope they can do something about it before the end of the year lets say, because to overlook something serious like this is kinda bad in my book.

Yet you seem to have a lot of input on how easy it is...
Where did i say its easy?

Edit: Because i wrote that 1-2 dudes did it for DayZ and you think i'm implying its easy? Well they build the base architecture for like a year and they still building it 2+ years later.

Why is it that the moment a great project is announced to build a new station and pilots are requested to help in the undertaking, others seem to come along just to kill them? I know it is 'all part of the game' but it would be good to get that new 'Explorers Station' built!

it;ll be built, we don't have THAt much of an effect.

Any reason why FD are still allowing people to Alt+F4 in Open or they just cant prevent it currently?

"Allowing" - yeah right, overriding an OS function, that's implemented at a higher privilege level than the games executable. You can detect it, do something about it (and FD plan to, there's a whole thread on this) but prevent it? Not without turning the game into malware.

This. It is the only way to be sure.

deadhorse. Whole thread on this too, with dev posts saying it isn't going to happen. Drop it already.

This problem must be much bigger than i have ever imagined to have this many people angry... I personally have never had any problems with loggers. *shrug*

If they're still in a type 6, they're already so far behind the race, they might as well quit.

What an arrogant and rude thing to type. Running in a type 6 follows the normal progression from small to large ships. You might try and think back when you were not the space jock you are now and remember we all progressed from little to big, and still are. Now in 6 weeks or so if you play every day and just like to stay in a type 6, I might agree and be rude too, right along with u... But everyone didn't do the same things in the same ways as you must believe they had to, to assume such an obvious nasty attitude about others and their progress in ED... If I pass you in my type 6, it wasn't me...

It is rather annoying for a trader to log out when you finally get a hold of one. Pirating in yembo is insanely difficult with all the bounty hunters there

I must have fought off at least 5 interdictions from player bounty hunters before I managed to pull over a trader. Once stopped he decides feign cooperation and then log off on me.

So does this mean the prize is flawed? I think so if pilots are avoiding the perils of open play.

It has been flawed from the start. On release, many traders were using exploits such as "seeking Luxuries" to gain serious amounts of credits and a significant boost to their trading rank. Also the steady stream of pirates to extraction sites gave them a great boost to combat rank. Your chances of catching up are slim to none if you didn't use those exploits as well before they curbed them.

So does this mean the prize is flawed?

If you mean the triple elite competition to net you £10000, it has always been flawed. No non-gamma player could hope to compete (because of the lack of char reset) so it means that if you were a standard retail buyer you had no hope anyway. Never mind the available hacks to the p2p mechanic.

People lacking reading skill should also not apply. You have to reset your account and use the "standard" and not "bonus" start to be eligible.

To many people are saying what can not be done in p2p....
But there are possibilities....
1. Saving and quiting at station-oupost lvl. In habited space....
2. Don't try to punish the people who use exploits but give rewards to the people who stay behind in the game...
3. Once a ship has been scanned ... Info is available on the other pc

Maybe we can not prevent all ways of cheating but we can make sure that fair players get a proper reward... if their enemy turns into a ghost.

Too true, I'm more of a pirate of opportunity in Yembo and it's absolute chaos in there but fun as hell. Successful ransoms, failed interdictions, random white knights dropping in to FSD wakes, heavily armed traders. It's just great to see a system buzzing with that much activity.
good fun alright - you nearly had me earlier :)
I've never had anyone chase me so much - last one I got out and immediately dropped out of SC and stayed in normal space for about 3 mins in the hope you'ld move away - I was right ;)

It's been said already though - traders take much more risk. T-6s can't carry much weaponary, but are a great ship for building CRs fast. And in normal PvP it's easy to build them up.
But around Yembo right now it's ridiculous. Some pirates are good fun - a little chase, drain the shields and the odd bit of damage. But others are just downright painful. Was hauling 100Ts of Gold - and some interdicts me, I start to run and he just blows me to pieces.. Where's the fun in that for anyone?! I'm down 1,000,000CRs + the 80k I need to rebuy the ship, and he probably has a couple of hundred CRs bounty!

IMHO, the bounty needs to be more painful. If I have to pay 80k to rebuy the ship, the bounty should be from my insurance, and match that cost..

surprised a certain word slipped past the word filters, but yes if youre worried about loosing something go solo, the community goal is just over the top anyway so if u go open just be prepared to engage in combat and perhaps loose a few ships and get a few others

You're offended? So what?

How about this: I'm also so far behind the race, I'm out too. People have reached Elite on trading weeks ago already.

It is one of the bigger flaws in the games design I think. For such a vast playing area you shouldn't segregate your community with three modes. Flags would have been preferable to not seeing players at all.

This is a really good point. +1 rep. Flags would mean players get to interact and not be required to pvp. Would make the galaxy less empty and more interesting.

Of course I imagine most traders would fly around (in their non-combat ships) not flagged for pvp combat, which would probably irritate the pirates.

Just to be clear, Alt-F4 or Save and Quit in the middle of combat is considered illegal from the dev. If you happened to encounter this, make sure you have screenshots of the CMDR's name and report them. Eventually, their account will be flagged. I said eventually...

I'd like to see them differentiate between Alt+f4 and a power cut/crash.

People will quit out of games in combat, it's been this way for years, people need to accept it and move on.
