I asked this in another thread but wasn't answered;

Do we know if the alpha would feature any OR support? I'm trying to keep away from the alpha (too much cash required) but OR support may swing it! :D

Another Dutchie here... Will get the OR HD Consumer edition for E: D and StarCititzen. I Won't do drugs to acomodate nausea as I just generally oppose to using drugs, I don't smoke and really hate the awfull smell of a joint.

Where are you based Variform? I'm in the Rotterdam area.

Well, it seems we won't have to resort to such measure, given that the consumer version is supposed to be so good we won't experience any nausea. Not holding my breath for that. I foresee some people still experiencing it, because they are more sensitive to vision-movement discrepancies.

I remember as a kid I got car sick...

But you and I could not be farther from each other. I am in the Northeast province of our tiny nation.

I live in The Netherlands. Although my country's drug policies are rarely well understood by foreigners and the choice to smoke it maybe less, being a personal freedom and choice for many here, it is easy to get cannabis here. Cannabis has the added trait of reducing nausea.
I wonder if it could help with training the brain to adapt more easily to that what causes the nausea. Using cannabis could expedite that process. The Dutch could have a leg-up in the use of the OR and its use in gaming. :p

I demand evidence to support that assertion!

I liked Fozza's reaction ...

Kerrash - "If you place it vertically on the bridge of your nose it should 'snap' into place"

Fozza - "Ow Ow Ow Ow Ow Ow Ow ..."

I know, I am sorry Foz; I should've just changed the lenses first

I'm curious, any of you played Hawken with the Oculus? :) I'm surprised you lot did get to see that in action.
...

Ironically even though this game claims to have native OR support, I have yet to get the damn thing to run it properly

I would appreciate any suggestions? :S

Tried a bunch of things myself - got it mostly working, but the HUD elements were still all stuffed up so I was going cross-eyed! I gave up in the end.

I can't even get the damn thing to render in HMD mode, been hacking the configs and all sorts. I can't believe they can say it has native support, when others which are referred to as basic hacks even have menu options for it.

Unlike almost every other game/demo where I use "duplicate desktop on 1 and 2" I had to use "Extend desktop to this display" for Hawken to work. Means you don't see it on your main display at all, but it plays okay on the Rift (HUD mess-up notwithstanding). I also downloaded some config/ini settings from the Hawken forums, and added a "-vr" switch to the exe.

Not exactly "working out of the box", no!

This thing look like more to be a torture than anything else

Well it looks like I'll soon be joining in with this torture session. :)

"You're receiving this email because your order will be advancing to "Processing" status in the next 24 hours." :p

I'm sure I'll be able to work with it until the full retail version hits the shelves. Hell, if I can build high end computers as a hobby anything thing throws out in a huff should be a walk in the park. :)

I don't know about this one, but at least in HL2, you need to put a -vr in the commandline option on steam. Works great, even though I still suffer greatly from the "motion sickness"

You will become a founding member of ... Oculus Rift. You will share with us your experiences on the forums, if you please

:)

So what are the sort of minimum specs needed to run an Occulus Rift? I'm pretty sure my current computer couldn't handle it.
Given the way that the scenes are rendered on screen, I don't think you need much more power to render to an Oculus. Remember that although you are rendering two scenes from two viewpoints, each one is half the full screen resolution so you aren't actually rendering two entire screens worth of data. No doubt there may be some small overhead but if you can play the game on your current rig you should be fine.

Most games are playable down to 30fps, the Rift has to run at 60... any drop below that results in unacceptable stuttering of the display. That's the main issue with PC grunt - 60fps must be the minimum your rig plays at.

Well that'll screw me right over :-/ Okay, need £300 for an Occulus and about £900 for a new PC. Guess I'd better get saving :p

Hmmm spent enough money playing the Virtuality Harrier jump-jet game at the Trocadero. They had two joysticks with a trigger and a thumb button. You sat in tub with joysticks at the side. With head-set on there was no motion sickness, never saw anybody being sick or feeling sick. It was bloody expensive though. Well over a pound a go and this was the 90s:eek:
