I just read about Sony's $1000 version.

One thing that is interesting is that it could give you a cinema experience right there at home. You just watch a film on DVD/blu ray and you get the experience that you are sitting in a room with a GIANT cinemascreen.

I like that idea a lot. (My TV is 30 years old). :)
I think that's the things primary function, it's not really a VR headset to compete with the rift, but a portable personal "big-screen".

Their 750inch screen at 65 feet (units!) comes out as 51 degrees (diagonal?) FOV - less than half of the Rifts, and any tracking would appear to be gyro only. Insufficient for real VR.

...And treat yourself to a new flat screen telly in the sales! :D

Thanks Rog,

Interesting interview. good to get some more details. :D

Oh good lord, I want one of those! I didn't realise that it was articulated from the still before the video started playing. I just dont' have anywhere to put it sadly. Logically there is only one course of action: Buy a larger house! :)

Oculus Rift issue with E:D

Version 1.1. When I set the 3d mode to Oculus Rift it stays in Side by Side mode and does not give me the dual sphere screens which I get in every other OR supported demo or game. What will I need to do to fix this?

Try setting the Rift as extended monitor instead of duplicated.

Thanks, will give it a shot. Brb.

As in: I set the monitor to 1920*1080 as main, and Rift to extended mode as second monitor, in 1200*800. Then set ingame monitor to secondary in Elite. Didnt work.

Ill try and simply redownload and reinstall.

*And that did not help either. Bah. The sole reason for buying the OR is something I am not able to play. Oh the humanity.

There are quite a few people successfully using OR with ED. Probably worth searching and reading on the other OR threads on the forum as I believe a number of people had the same issue as you and it was a configuration change for them to get it working.

Thanks but no thanks. I would rather just get a straight answer instead of wasting more time searching, as I havent found any other threads regarding issues with it. I can wait until it works properly as it should without any workarounds. I got 30 gigs of stuff to play with around in the Rift.

I raised a ticket in the usual manner so I will keep my fingers crossed..maybe I will get some help there instead of at the forums.

After a reboot I went through it again. And this time your advice did the trick!

Wow...I feel so small in that cockpit in that vastness of space. Truly awesome VR experience. Best yet.

Interview Request

Hi everyone,
I write for The Bell Ringer which is a student newspaper at Georgia Regents University. This semester, we're working on a section on emerging technologies and for our gaming section we've decided to focus on the Oculus Rift. Right now, I'm looking for some people that would be willing to do an interview sometime around the second week in February. I can definitely do an interview over the phone but I'd love to find someone in my area so I could actually come and see the Oculus Rift. I live in Augusta, GA but I'm willing to drive a couple of hours. If anyone is interested in doing an interview, email me at mday4@gru.edu.
Thanks!

Oculus

I also look forward to experience the VR with a machine like the oculus...
But I wonder how we will be able to control the in game buttons and mouse, if we allready have our hands full with our joystick ie: throttle and stick...

Or you can try to find someone in your area willing to loan you theirs. On blind faith, I sent mine out to a fellow player and he tried it out and sent it back. If you work for a paper, perhaps I can do the same for you. Contact me via PM if you don't get any offers in the next 2 days or so.

Question on OR + main screen

Hello Oculus Rift owners. Gaming in my house is now mostly with an audience. With this in mind I have a question - with the Oculus Rift, what does the main computer screen show? Does it move with the OR or stay fixed on a single point. I am especialy thinking of how it will behave with E: D. Thanks!
